The Formula Diet

Does anyone know anything about the Formula diet? I got out my copy of the book last week and found several recipies that sound good. I made one today. It was in the Fat Fighter NewYork Cheesecake. It tasted great. I just sampled it because I want to serve it for dessert with supper tonight.

I am still a little confused about what constitutes a Low Carb diet. I know Atkins induction is almost no carb, and the others seem to add more carbs, but I've never got the numbers down in my mind. Is 40=30=30 low enought to be called low carb?

The food guide for Canada recommends 300 grams of carb per day. Anything lower than that is considered low carb.
the 40-30-20 is definitely Atkins, induction and post-induction. Most other low carb diets allow moderate amounts of carbs - mine runs to about 100 carbs per day on CALP.

I think the type of carbs you eat is nearly as important as the number of grams. A slice of whole wheat bread is a better choice than a potato - lower on the glycemic index, an apple is a better choice than a banana. Read The Glucose Revolution or check out the word glycemic on the net.

Hope this helps a bit.

this is the link to a glycemic index site good info about 15 pages to pring or is it 20 some where along that line but good info to print out. explains alot about it.

40 - 30 - 30 is lower that most but still higher. there is no real right or wrong when trying low carb. many people do diferent levels of lowcarb. but it usually has to do with the quality of the carbs that makes the difference. the low glycemic index foods are better as they have less of an initial im[pact onthe insulin spike when eaten. such as a slice of white bread will spike your insulin levels within the firsh hour to a certain level but whole wheat bread will spike it lower and the reason that is better is that your body does not get that huge release of insulin flowing around the bloodstream which causes the problems.

hopw that helps the site does expalin ti better.

My niece and I are going to loosely base our food plans on The Formula when she comes to stay with me for a month, beginning July 19th. I think we'll shoot more for 20 40 40, though. She and I both are carb junkies so by limiting our carbs to 20% of our diet should theoretically work. We shall see what we shall see. :)))
