  • m,ay people have had great success with it and many others found (me) that the RM was too much temptation and then ended up having more than one. they usually go total low carb (mind you that it is not no carb) but it is a personal choice some times i combine the two like if i am going to have a meal out or such then i do the cad approach limit to 1 hour (like i can)

    good luck and welcome!!
  • Thanks for the welcome...I do like to read all the posts I can...

Two days on LOW CARBS , and tonite Im gonna eat popcorn for an hour.lol....see if my metaboliam has been FOOLED>.If it works ,next time Im having a whole cheesecake.

Ive tried Atkins before,,,and I like eating the whole cow, but dont think I lost a lot of lbs on it...

If only it works this time....

  • Hi there, sounds like to me, you have read the old Hellers book, where the reward meal was a free for all. The updated version has found that the hour free for all was not a good idea. In the new book, your reward meal must be in proportion, in other words, you start with a two cup salad, dressing of choice, you divide your dinner plate into 3rds and have equal portions of protein, veggies and carbs.

I followed this plan and lost 78 pounds. My little sis did this plan and lost well over 100 pounds and has maintained it for almsot 2 years.

I stronlgly suggest you get your hands on a copy of the newer book, "Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Program."

I did fall off the wagon and gain back almost all of my 78 pound loss, I still think CALP is one of the easiest low-carb plans to follow. If you want a cookie, you wait until your reward meal and have a cookie, just as long as it it in proportion with protein and veggies.

Good Luck to you, if I can answer any questions let me know

  • I lost 55 pounds on the old CAD, more easily than I had ever lost weight in my life. My cravings were nearly non-existant. I'm not knocking the updated CALP at all, but in my experience I did fine without the balancing act. However, I should stress that I did NOT make a cheesecake my Reward Meal!! It was always a "real" meal, not just a lot of sugar and fat!

I was on a CAD support board for a while, with a mix of people who had varying success with both CAD and CALP. It seems that for some people they had great difficulty losing, even by the balance, and they had to be very, very careful about what foods they ate. Others - like me - seemed to breeze along fairly easily with a constant 1-3 pound/week loss. It seems apparent to me that individual bodies react very differently, and the best thing for you to do is to find the healthy way of life that works FOR YOUR BODY.
  • just a quick note to add regarding the Atkins many people feel that when they go on it they lose weight really fast ast first then they stop and well they are usually eating well over 300 cals in food (mostly fat) to lose weight properly you do need to have some control over the fat intake then you will find that the weight does come off. but CAd sounds like it is something that may work for you so good luck ad well hang out here as we are a great bunch!!
  • Hi,

Before I got pregnant I was doing the CAD and did wonderful on it...well lets just say I gained it all back and then some due to the pregnancy. I loved it but the better I did at my reward meal the faster I lost. There were times when I went out for dinner, like a buffet and ate like a pig, and STILL lost weight..imagine that.

I've been trying to just do any kind of diet but can't seem to stick to anything lately....my dream is to go back to CAD eventually...sigh~

Cbabe, 150 is heaven to me too !!
