Default Need advice.. please

Today is my last day of induction.Yippee!! I am so glad I made it through without cheating. I really want to stay on track so I got DANDR and reviewed the next step but I have a couple of questions.

1) Can I have pickles?

2) Can I have low carb tortillas?

I know that I should incorporate more veggie carbs (which I will do) but can I have anything as long as I dont go over my alloted carbs for the day?

Good morning, Barbara.

You can eat what you want AS LONG AS YOU WATCH THE CARBS. Read the labels. No all pickles hav the same carb levels. Low carb tortillas? Never heard of them. However, read the label and make sure you check the serving size.

Good luck!

Hey Barbara!

You must be on Atkins! If I remember correctly you add the carbs in 5g increments...I could be wrong, but I know that you add them in very slowly so check the book. You may get to a point that you stop losing if you add them in too quickly. Pickles....hmmmm (let me check...off to the fridge!) Yes! found them! I have a jar of Kosher Dill Spears. 0, zip, nada on the carb count...so enjoy them!!! Stay away from the sweet ones!!!

I don't have any info on the low carb tortilla, but lettuce or steamed cabbage leaves may work.

hope that helps!

Thanks for the info.I know it seems silly but I cant wait to have a pickle with my lunch today. As for low carb tortillas if I remember right they have only 2 carbs per tortilla. I think that I will use them sparingly.

Seattlegirl,
I saw the low carb tortillas on Adkins website-but I haven't found any in the store (they all average 20 for wheat, 32 for flour)....did you find some in a store. I LOVE tortillas.

How did you do on induction???

Default Tasty No Carb Chips

Hi Barbara,

You know what makes a tasty chip and there's no carbs (make sure you read the ingredients to make sure there's nothing funky in it before you do this, like fillers/sugars etc., its gotta be 100% cheese).

Take some grated cheese like 1/4 cup or more and melt it in a hot skillet (spray the bottom of the pan with pam or something like that). Let the grated cheese melt and bubble and get nice and brown...don't burn it. Make sure you flip it over and do the same to the other side.

Let it cool and it will become crispy....break it apart and enjoy. They are excellent in salads or with a slice of cheese on it.

Love, Leens

Leens, you took the recipe right from my fingertips! I use the "cheese" tortillas for breakfast taquitas. Pretty good.

Regarding the pickles, just remember the sodium and make sure you're drinking tons of water to help flush your system. I love pickles but have tight ring fingers later!

Since I do CAD I occasionally indulge in a tortilla as my carb if we're having fajitas for dinner. But with tuna or other lunch meat I often use the lettuce leaf roll up instead. Pretty tasty!

the tortillas are made by La Tortilla Factory. I have seen them sold every where ( Safeway, Fred Meyer, and the local health food store). I have tried them before and thought that they were a good trade off for regular bread. I cant remember the exact carb count with fiber but after you take out the fiber count then its like 2-3 carbs. The front of the package says it too. They make different flavors (garlic, regular etc.) but have not heard very positive feedback from any but the regular. I think they sell for about 1.75 a pack which is better than on line.

Default Tortillas are my friend!

I have found tortilla pizzas to be great substitutes for pizza and low carb too! I haven't seen these extra low carb tortillas, but i'm gonna look for them! I use the 98% fat free tortillas (15 carbs) and use no-sugar-added spaghetti sauce with a 2% milk mozzarella cheese. Then I pile on the turkey pepperoni and any other toppings I want and between the cheese and meat toppings there is plenty of protein and not so many carbs.

I toast one side of the tortilla under the broiler and use this for the bottom crispy crust...so i flip it over after broiling it and add the sauce (only takes about a tsp or two) and my toppings. Broil it again and voila! Instant homemade, low-carb pizza!

Pizza is my biggest weakness and I was so hyped when my dietician had this solution for my cravings!

Btw, is there a website where I can find these tortillas? We don't have any of the stores mentioned that carry them here in Texas. Are they more likely to be found in a health food store?

Ateyah, who would LOVE to have bigger pizzas!

Default Induction to Ongoing Weight Loss

Hey Seattlegirl,
Have you been to www.atkinscenter.com.'s acceptable foods lists? You can get a list of acceptable foods for each of the four steps in the program. Pickles are a yes, as long as they are not sweet! Dr. Atkins does warn that the salt can slow weight loss because of additional water retention. Someone also advised you that you can only add 5 grams of carbs per week if you are going to move on to the OWL step of the program. The tortilla may or may not take you over 5 grams in a day. You may want to wait til you are up to 30 - 40 grams of carbs per day (and are still losing weight). Tortillas made with white flour may cause insulin production increase which may slow weight loss. Sounds technical doesn't it! I read all this info on line. I too completed the first 2 weeks of Induction, May 4th, but have opted to stay on Induction. I am not a patient dieter Good Luck with your OWL.
