this comming from an italian who loves (still) macaroni with buttter. You can do it. take it a bit easy in the fat in the beginning as it does wreck havoc unless you are used to it. I do not eat tons of fat so that is not a problem with me. give it a 2 week trial and stay with it you can do anything for 2 weeks. you almost made it past the horrible feeling. it is common to have those feelings wheil your body is trying to get used to burning your fat instead of carbs. if you had lasted just 1-2 more days you would have found a new you!! hang in there!!!

As we said on the Atkins thread, YES! You need to buy the book and read it before starting Atkins. If it's important enough to lose the weight, it's important enough to do a little research and make sure you're doing it right.

I am on week 5 .
stayed on induction till week 4 and now I am still keeping my carbs at under 20 gr.
I have added natural peanut butter on a high fibre bread once in a while and ordered some low carb tortilla shells and some low carb hot cereal which I havent tried yet.
I lost about 4 pounds the first week and have been averaging about a 1 pound loss/wk.
I didnt get to sick in the beginning but my daughter the carb and sugar adict was very sick, vomiting , headaches , ect for over a week.
She quit although I am convinced if she had held out it would have stopped.
I am enjoying this wol ,need to plan out my meals since I am alone for a lot of them and tend to go without eating till I am starving and then you want to scarf down anything. I dont eat a lot of fatty foods, Ieat a lot of chicken, salmon, ect but take a omega 369 sup. and cal/mag,
multi, and vit e.
I was frustrated the weight wasnt falling off but my clothes are getting very big on me now and people are starting to ask if I have lost weight so it is working.
I'm 5'2 and am at 150 today.
Also get in some sort of Exercise every day and take some time out for your self. Also I find using Fitday.com invaluable for tracking my carbs and weight.

I have done Atkins since last Easter. Have lost 36 #'s thus far with 40 to go. AND I AM EATING AND LOSING WEIGHT! I just love this. Rarely ever count carbs, just eat what I am allowed to. Drink less water than I should and I don't exercise..I am sure if I improved on those two areas I would lose a lot faster, but I am averaging about 2 pounds a month. This is so great to eat the way I do and still lose weight. I will do this the rest of my life. I do miss pasta and have not found anything I like that is comparable and tastes good, but I can live with that. I have cheated big time only once and my sister made a jelly roll at Christmas.had two slices. Did not gain any weight andd went right back to my plan. Oh I am not strict about my fruit. I think I eat canteloupe 3 or 4 times a week, probably 1-2 cups at a time. I think I am doing OK and it seems to work for me.

Lost weight AND still kept it off
Hi,
I lost over 20 lbs. on Atkins since May 2003. Happy to say that it's still off. This is the longest that I've been able to maintain a weight loss. And the easiest!!!
Good Luck,
Jan

Atkins does work, but it is hard to stick with. I have to remind myself how much better I feel when I am on Atkins! I don't get the shakes, and I have so much energy. The first three days I have headaches, and a hard time sleeping. It tapers off though. It is worth it. I have diabetes in my family, and am prone to it myself since I am hypoglycemic. I owe it to my body to do this! Just make sure you drink enough water, and take a good supplement. You do not have to take Atkins supplements! They are way too expensive. You can get a good vitamin in the supermarket. The starch fillers in the vitamins are not enough to count. Good luck!

Any diet works as long as you stick to it and they are all wonderful.
Since I've been on atkins I feel so good, my SAD did not hit me this winter hmmmmm!

Geez, this is an old post. The original question was posed nearly 4 years ago and the person has not been back since! I wonder if she's still feeling fat?

Atkins was not useful for me. I tried it four times and never made it completely through induction. Fast loss of water weight but my body felt polluted and I was tired and weak. When I went off Atkins, I ballooned each time. Other low carbs are gentler programs.

This is such an old post. I'll lock it and let it die a decent death.
