Good morning, CHickies!
Still dark and gloomy here and the doggage are still asleep but we have to get going. Today is GAIL Day and I also must leave at 8 for a re-check with my periodontist. Lovely Baptism at Church yesterday - 9 kids under 3 were in attendance to see their cousin baptized so it was a pretty noisy service. Hershey was in her glory checking out the kids and once again in her glory when we went to the party at the Farm. Catch you later. |
Morning chickies.
At least it is a bit warmer here, but it is kinda gloomy dark and damp. But the temps are in the high 40s. I have a busy week this week at work, guests from Europe and out of state. So I will be working with marathon meetings and trying to complete my daily work also. I will be sure to check in here when I can. Ruthie, sounds like a wonder baptism. Glad Hershey could enjoy it, was Lucy there also? Goomba, glad to see you back, take some time to enjoy your down time. |
Am really crabby today...
The weather is disgusting. It' foggy, rainy and cold. DH is still home with a cold and I'm getting it too! I got it all! Body aches, stuffy nose, congested chest and I wanna cry!:( I've been awake since 3:30, trying to keep lukewarm, flat 7-Up down. Everytime a cough, my tummy revolts! The part that really makes me frustrated is that everytime I get a cold, I get bronchitis! Then it's off to the doctor where I get more meds.
I never realized that I could whine so well!;) Heading back to bed and my electric blanky!!!!! |
Good WHINE, Tip! I'm sending you a hunk of ******* Township cheese.
Seriously, I hope you feel better soon and GO TO THE DOC if it looks like you are heading into bronchitis. |
Good Gloomy morning everyone! Tip--I feel the same way--dang scratchy raw throat and I know where it's going. Good thing I have a scheduled doctor's trip in this week :)
Raining a lot here and that's just fine by me since all the snow has not yet melted so hopefully the rain will wash it all away. I have so much to do this week that it's a wonder that I will even have a few moments to myself! You all have a great day! :) |
A MOVIE CRITIQUE
Oh Pooky, so nice to see you posting in the morning again.
Forgot to mention earlier. If you have young ones in baseball, If you love the game of baseball, Or if you just need to see a good clean movie about dreams coming true... See THE ROOKIE! Wow was that a great movie. No foul language, no sex, no violence, just a great family movie. And Dennis Quaid was super! What a handsome man, my choice over Russell Crow anyday. I was so caught up in the movie that I automatically applauded when the Owls won. Later in the movie others applauded with me. I laughed, I cried, and I was glad to see a movie I could enjoy along with my boys. |
good morning everyone!!!
and to all of you battling colds and flu, here's a box of tissues, and a nice pot of peppermint tea. hope you feel better soon, and don't get bronchitis or anything icky...
ruth, you just don't stop, do you. ya got the sling off, and it sounds as if you've been home for a whole 5 minutes since then!!! but it must feel sooo great to be free after all that torture. as for me, a visit with peachie yesterday [yes, she was off the treadmill]. nice to see her and her older son, you know the one. the one that moaned when i told him his old auntie wanted a hug. but he also had a big grin on his face [such a cutie pie, but no one can tell him that since he's a wrestler and wrestlers aren't cute. or something like that]. nothing planned for today, except preparing a functional resume and continuing the job hunt. mom is having fun with my brother and his family. and i'm enjoying the peace and quiet. with two black cats and a rottweiler. and i did 45 minutes with raul. i'm not ready to go for a full hour yet. maybe soon. have a nice day, ya'll. and keep smiling. and sneezing. whichever works. |
Good morning y'all!
Jenny I'm so glad to hear you liked the Rookie. I really want to see it, since I'm pretty much baseball/softball obsessed. Then, wouldn't you know, I read a review this weekend where the reviewer was trashing it. It seems they always trash the movies I like though, so I should know better to listen to them. I'll listen to you instead! Jif Okay, you've inspired me with all your Raoul talk. I think I'll do a quickie with Leslie Sansone today. (Get your mind outta the gutter Peach, I mean exercising!) I'm pretty sore today because this weekend I gardened my little heart out and threw the softball with my DD, so it's a good sore. It's kind of gloomy here today too, but it's our (Rockies! ) home opener today, so all's well here. Except that they're playing like garbage! Season's young, the season's young.... Have a good one chickies. Take care of yourselves sickie chickies! Chickadee |
Morning all! Well I don't know if it is the time change or what but I am so tired today....1030 and my dd is just getting breakfast and I am just getting moving. Called the office of the surgeon who is supposed to be taking my gallbladder out (the start of March!!!!) and the secretary told me that if I haven't heard from them it is because I don't have a date and she could give me no indication of when I would be done...I have had half a dozen attacks in the last 2 weeks and enough is enough already...of course all the pina coloda's and strawberry daq's didn't help in Mexico!;) Anyhow I am now calling my GP and am going to see if she can pull some strings and if not I start approaching the surgeons at the hospital where I work and see if I can get in...I am a nurse for goodness sake, shouldn't I have a little pull to get done in less than a year!!!!! I have been having attacks since JULY!!!! Now how is that for whining! Liz

Afternoon everyone,
I had a little surgical procedure this am and the Novocain has worn off. All I can say is OUCH!! The shower was boring and the amount of gifts was obscene. The house was in Historic Salem (Mass) and not a parking space to be had. The weather was chilly but I HAD to wear some spring Capri pants....lol my ankles were cold. Don do you think 8 year olds will like the movie? My kids want to go see clock stoppers? Maybe if we get a call from friends. Pooky and Tip, feel better. Chickadee, nice to feel the body ache once in awhile to know your body still works, in a good way. Jiff you amaze me. I would have never had a clue about your size had I not gone back and read some of your past post. I am fully impressed at your grabbing life by the B*lls and taking control. Liz, Pull those stings. My MIL was an OR nurse and got all kinds of cool stuff and freebies. I nursed my kids, but I had enough free formula to start my own day care... LOL anyway, that is what friends are for. Have a great day ladies, I will be in bed for the rest of the day and looking forward to hearing about your day. -L |
Happy Monday
Morning all..
Why can't I ever seem to get on here early?? Well, I'm here at least! Thank you all of you for your wonderful Birthday wishes! None of you would believe how much they meant to me! I'm trying hard not to be too terribly down today, but its one of those days, ya know?? My family basically ignored my birthday, I realize that is not a big deal in the least, but still annoying! My mom called two days late and half way apoligized. Both my brothers and my sister never bothered to even call. My MIL called two days late and just said shes getting old, again, no apology.... On the other hand my amazing little people woke up Friday morning on their own and ran downstairs with cards made just for me! My little one thrilled to death that he wrote "momumy" all alone on the card!! My older painted me a beautiful picture! My best friend from highschool flew in for the weekend from Seattle, so not all was bad!! My husbands gift apparently got lost in the mail...oh well. OK, good night is that enough whining or what???? After a full 6 months of not being on OP my "big" size jeans have oddly shrunk! They feel like possibly someone shrunk them almost two sizes! I hate that! Needless to say, I think I may need to be back OP, and big time!!! I did a training walk this weekend, 11 miles, and boy was I sore and tired!!!! How will I make 60 fulll miles! Oh my!! Hope y'all have a wonderful week you lovely ladies!!! NORA.... I need some tips for my "pond" I hope to get started in the next couple of weeks!! Stacey |
Do you know that a spider just ran across my key board and and is hiding under the letters as I type? This sort of gives me the willies since I am expecting the darn thing to pop out at any minute. It is harmless one, not like the biting kind that Janice has. But I HATE spiders...so .....I think that I am just going to say "hey" and STEP AWAY!
peach...who has the heebie jeebies |
The eesy beensy spider
Took a walk on Peachie's keys! Back crashed her chair And landed 'tween her knees! Out came the swear words, To scare the bug away. So the eensy beensy spider Ran off 'till another day! |
JUst checking in to say hi-
Had a blissfully quiet day at work today, that hasn't happened in ages! My desk is relatively clear, enough going on to not be bored, but enough time to read and chat on the phone. Ate well today, too. I have been better about bringing food from home and keeping stuff in my little frig- hb eggs, cottage cheese, sf yogurt, sliced ham and baby carrots. When it's crazy busy, it doesn't matter cause I skip my meals and snacks until I'm starving and eat what ever isn't tied down(cookies) and that gives me the quickest sugar rush! But it's much better this past week, and I am trying hard to eat something substantial at 10 AM, then I do best. 7-breakfast 10-snack 12:30-lunch 3:30 snack 7-dinner then I'm OK til bed, or I might have some sf jello or cottage cheese and peaches if I'm hungry. Watch out you sniffling ones, have some hot tea, and get some extra rest! dottie |
Hello everyone!
Another moan day behind me! Whoopee!!!!!
I am having mixed feelings about my weight. This on again, off again program stuff is killing me! Just when I start to lose some, I slip up once (or twice:o ) and gain it back, only to start the whole cycle again. I have tried not buying the stuff I'm not supposed to have, but it keeps popping up in my house anyway. The grocery fairy? More like my sister bringing it for dd and mom. And then. . . well, who am I to say no to temptation? Anyway, my real-life weight loss buddy has slipped from the l/c fold and started ww. She's all over me every day to join, it's so wonderful, she doesn't see how ANYONE can't lose weight on the program, blah blah blah! I told her the same thing about l/c, but she didn't find it to be as wonderful as I do. Now I'm seriously thinking about ww. However, I've been reading up some in the forums here, and I will miss you guys so much! I think I'll just stick with my atkins REALLY REALLY STRONG and STAY STRICTLY O/P! Then, in a month, if I haven't seen results like I want, maybe I will sit in on a meeting. What do you think? All suggestions welcomed! |
Goodforme,
I think you can combine the WW with the low carb/ It works well for many. It is the structure that many people need with the choice of limiting your carbs. You can spend your points on anything you like but when they are you done with your points you are done eating. You can also earn extra points with exercise. I think you should look in to it. You might find the success and the temptations can work together. -L |
I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but I wanted to give a heads up to Ruth and some of you-
There is a group trying to do Mayo clinci(you know, that grapefruit and meat and salad thing) over in the 3fc under Diet Plans. They are taking alot of heat from the moderator and others - (it's a fad, it's unhealthy, you'll yo-yo, yadda, yadda). Some of them felt unwelcome using 3fc; they got all this un-asked-for ADVICE! I posted an invitation for them to post here, their own thread if they want, or whatever. So if they start, I just want us to be welcoming and supportive. They really took some heat, I think some people really over reacted- kindly, and with good intentions, but it came across kind of preachy. so, that's it- thanks, dottie the thread is called, "anybody want to do this with me?" or something like that. |
I've been reading that thread too!
I pm'ed kaly and told her to come here because we low carbers understand where they're coming from. It's bad to want to leave this site over some unwanted advice! This site is wonderful!

Hi Goodforme --
Several of us are doing the high protein option of WW...and nobody has kicked us out yet! My problem w/strictly low carb was that I would gain and lose the same 10 pounds over and over and in a very short period of time -(I think it was mostly water) -- anyway, I won't bore you w/the details of how much I agonized over the decision -- but I finally decided to go to WW. I don't think it's the end all and the be all --it still requires all those things I resist (like planning and portion control) and I still have to watch my carbs (or they will watch me!). But, the flexibility of being able to go out (a couple of really good web sites w/point values for lots of restaurants) and being able to eat lots of "0 point" veggies (I make big pots of soup w/these in chicken broth and stewed tomatoes) help me deal with my generous ;) appetite. I eat more points in protein than others who aren't as infatuated w/carbs as I am -- and I try to make high fiber choices and avoid sugar -- BUT -- there's still that problem w/having to say "No" when I want to say "Yes." I'm losing slowly -- w/a blip up every once in awhile when I've said "Yes! Yes! Yes!" -- dh would love to see so much enthusiam from me! -- to one of those "Yes! No! No!" items) -- BUT what I'm much more comfortable with is the fact that my weight is more stable -- not fluctuating wildly (7 pounds in 3 days) like it did when I was strictly low carb...well, no, I was never strictly low carb -- scratch that -- when I was TRYING to be strictly low carb! And the overall trend is down, which for me, is a miracle. Anyway, that's my (more than!) two cents worth. Never be afraid to look for the solution if you haven't found it yet...and don't worry about leaving us or us leaving you! No way we're lettin' you out of here! |
Good evening ladies!!
Too busy to get in here til now, sounds as if everyone is busy busy. I am wrapping up things at work, my boss has gotten over the 4 week notice thing, she is on vacation next week so only 4 more days then a mini week next week..yippee. Gorgeous day here today, I skipped the Y to sleep, its harder to get up when its dark! Tommorrow Iwill tho! Hav a nice evening and a happy day tommorrow! |
SOONER I love the poem!!! I had a great laugh imangining the whole thing!!!
I agree with you wise chicks we here are all for the controversail diet!! let them come we would love to see them here!!! it is sort of low carbish so why not!!!! who know maybe some of them will convert! LOL so all is well here DH is baking cake for the BS gents cake bake!! HHHMMM I must stay out of the kitchen that is not good!! |
Update
I agonized over it and I decided to sit in on a meeting with my friend this weekend and see what happens. I may hate it! I may love it, too! I have to at least check it out, though.
I don't wanna be one of those gung-ho, convert-to-my-program-or-else-you-could-die kind of people, I hope I don't come across like that! I just need to do something!! I'm sure I will figure it out in my sleep tonight. Thanks for your advice!! |
Sherrie,
We ALL need to do something, that is why we are here. Not every program works for everyone and the only plan that does work is the one you can stick with. If you like low carb but need more structure, who is going to fault you for finding what works for you. No matter what plan you choose, you are still among friends who want to support you and want you to be successful. -L |
I think the spider is gone...or squished! I spent almost the entire day in bed with one of heck of a headache. I only get them two or three or four times a year but they are nasty. I am beginning to think it is a muscular teeth grinding time to replace my mouth guard thing.
Sooner, Lovely poem!!!!! Jenny, thanks for the Rookie info! I think my older one (8) will love it. I am routing for you to get through this week in great shape!:) Liz, hope they get to put a rush on your gall bladder...been going on for quite some time! Sherrie, i do the higher protein version of ww. Atkins was a great learning experience for me, it taught me how my body felt while restricting carbs but now I need the portion control and the structure of weight watchers. If what you are doing now is not working for you make a change, but stick around here!!! Chickadee! pm me whenever...no rush on my part! Because of the cable vision Yes network deal ....or no deal I will miss out on 130 Yankee games unless I get the "dish" which I hear is expensive and you can not have any trees blocking it...I have got a lot of trees :( It really really stinks....I even found myself watching and routing for the Mets....well, they were playing the Braves!!) Anyway, it is awful....down right rotten! Which reminds me. i will print off and mail that thread to Debkay tomorrow morning along with an Angel Bear from all of us. It has two necklaces one that says Guardian Angel and the other one says Debbie. i'll also make a little paper one and stick it on the bear's butt that says Javy for her favorite baselball player...she always said that he has a cute one!!! Pooky, Hope you have a nice week and get some me time and gardening time! Hey Dottie! Hey L , Hey Spot hey Janice, Hey AdoAnnie,Hey Tippy, ....Goomba...good to see you back and a bit more relaxed! Hey Jo, and a big hey to anyone one I missed! oh....and of course....HEY JIFF!!! have a good night! peach |
wow, dottie!!!!
those girls over on the diet plans forum, the mayo clinic diet girls, sure have riled a hornets nest!!!
and it's with mixed emotions that i applaud your suggestion that they move their posts over here. they absolutely have the right to go on this diet. they've also stated that they're interested in short-term weight loss. they're young yet. and one of them even said something to the effect that she knows this diet works, she's done it several times!! they just don't understand the problems here. but they're also so young that they don't understand how to accept unwelcome comments. a simple 'thank you for your concern' would go a long way towards defusing the situation. so, if they do show up, i PROMISE to stay out of it. and thank you for making the point that some LC'ers use a couple of days [not a few weeks!!!] of this diet to clear up a stall. you're a brave soul to have waded into the middle [end??] of the dsicussion, but we knew that. |
