Hot Wings anyone?

One of my favorite things to eat on Atkins is hot wings. I usually cook them on the grill because I like the grilled flavor but it's getting to cold out to have to stand and babysit wings on the grill. So I've been looking for other ways to cook my wings.

Does anyone here deep fry them and if you do could you please tell me two things

1. do you use a deepfryer or could I use a frying pan with plenty of oil in it....I'll be careful:D AND......

2. after you deepfry them do you add your sauce then OR do you add it to the wings before you put them in the fryer.

I'm kicking around the idea of buying a deepfryer but not sure what else I would use it for .

Thanks for you help:)

I don't know if it is safe to use a pan with hot oil as I'm wondering how the heat would be regulated. When I make wings, I deep fry first and then brush on the sauce.

Hi Chrissy and welcome back!

I love hot wings and make them a lot. Actually I use chicken breast strips a lot too. I just fry them in hot oil in a skillet until they're golden and crispy and it works great. No breading, no nothing, just the oil. After I drain them on paper towels, I put them in a bowl and woosh them around in the sauce (doesn't take that much). Be careful of what brand sauce you use. I've found some with no carbs and some with lots o' carbs. Read those labels!

Happy hot winging!

So that is why my wings never came out quite right! I just stick them in the oven and cook them till they are crispy crunchy things. (can you tell I did not pay attention to home ec 101?

Thanks for bringing this topic up...i should cook some up because they help keep me op!

Peachie,
I think you gotta fry them. They're just not the same crunchy in the oven. I figure it's one of the beauties of this WOE - we can fry and not feel bad about it!

Peach~~You are too funny! I swear we grew up together!! lol

Chrissy-it really depends on what brand I buy. I either buy the chicken wings at Sams or HEB stores. They both sell some that are pre seasoned or plain. The preseasoned I either bake or fry (I don't have a deep fryer so it's in a skillet with oil) and put the sauce on the side. The plain I make a "b-b-q" type sauce that has about 3-5 carbs per 2 tbsps which is quite an allowance when sprinkling over the wings (but I follow CAD/CALP).

Wonderful LC OP food---I try to keep them stocked!

So good to see you regularly again!

J
