Any makeup lovers?

Hi everyone~

Just wondering if there are fellow makeup lovers out there! List what you've been loving recently :)

Top three drugstore loves:
- Nyx butter glosses (I have Tiramisu)
- Revlon lip butters
- L'Oréal Magic Lumi primer (I use it as a highligher)

Top three high-end:
- MUFE HD invisible cover concealer (I'm super hard to match and this concealer does amazing things to my under eye area. A little disappointed at the packaging and the price though...)
- Stila Convertible Colors (My favourite cream blush is from that line. It's called Rose)
- Inglot eyeshadows

Candidcamster 10-18-2014 03:31 PM

Me! Well kinda lol I am not awesome at makeup, so I normally go for a simple look, emphasizing my lips w/a pink or reddish tint gloss, eyes w/a gold color & eyeliner (I really need to learn to do eyeliner already *sighs*) not really into mascara because of my sensitive eyes.

My favorite brands are -
Bareminerals (foundation & eye shadow)
Buxom (lip gloss)
Eyeliner (either Bareminerals or Stila lately)

JerseyGyrl 10-18-2014 06:17 PM

Makeup lover here!!:)
I'm not into "high end" products. I am a firm believer that if you know how to apply & choose the right color combinations, it doesn't have to be expensive.
I swear by Studio Mineral Makeup (foundation, blushes, glows & veils). This has been my HG for 9+ years. I am also a fan of Coastal Scents eye shadow palettes, Wet n Wild eye shadow palettes, NYC Smooth Skin loose powder, L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara & Physician's Formula gel eyeliners....among A LOT of other products:o

Mizzthingaling 10-18-2014 07:37 PM

Present! I love makeup. I realized yesterday that my eyeshadows may need their own makeup case. I am also on the lookout for a new concealer.

My staples:
Clinique Perfectly Real Powder
Milani Lipsticks (I have many colors)
Jordana Lipliners (Pairs well with any lipcolor)

Loving Now:
Makeup Forever Smoky Extravagant Mascara (will rebuy)
Too Faced Melted- Berry Red

muguet 10-18-2014 08:41 PM

Candidcamster I have the Stila liquid liner too, it's the bomb! I'm glad I went for it, I've had it for more than 6 months and it's still going strong. I can't believe it hasn't dried up already!

JerseyGyrl
totally agree with you! In Canada we're not blessed with the amazing drugstore makeup that's available in the US (especially if you don't live in big cities) so I always stock up when I go. I bought a Wet n' Wild palette when I was down there and it is some kind of amazing for the price. I honestly feel most high end products make you pay for the packaging more than anything.

Mizzthingaling What kind of concealer are you looking for? I heard the Maybelline Fit me is good but colours are pretty limited. I've had amazing results with my MUFE one so maybe if you're hard to match, give them a try. Bobbi Brown doesn't work for me either but for some people it's their HG brand for base products.

By the way everyone, I'm looking for an affordable mascara that volumises and layers well. I was loyal to the L'Oréal Voluminous line but it doesn't hold up well on my lower lashes. Any recommendations?

seaurchin 10-18-2014 09:00 PM

Foundation, I use Revlon Color Stay in the spring/summer and Illuminaire mineral foundation in the fall/winter

For eyes: I am using Avon's true color eyeshadow quad (browns), brown and/or gray glimmerstick eye liner, and Big & Daring mascara.

For lips: I find it hard to find something i like as everything seems to either dry out or get gummy on me. At the moment, though i'm using Avon's extra lasting lip stain and balm because i love the subtle color when it goes on.

one thing that i do spend money on that I think is worth the price is the make up forever HD Powder.

I use L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black waterproof on my lashes.....but....not on my lower lashes. For my lower lashes, I use Maybelline Lash Discovery (waterproof). It has a teeny, tiny brush that is perfect for lower lashes.

I have a ton of concealer. The one's I like best are: For under eye, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in the "brightener" shade (pink). I top this with NYX HD concealer.
For blemishes, redness, scars etc., I really like Hard Candy Glamoflauge. This covers pretty much anything. Hard Candy is only available at Walmart.

Mizzthingaling 10-19-2014 12:34 AM

Muguet I am looking for a potted concealer but I am going to try to the MUFE and the ones Jersey suggested. I have discoloration around my nose and eyes so I need something thicker. The Clinique usually gets my under eye.

ETA: Just realized the Maybelline and Hard Candy doesn't even come in dark colors.

Mizzthingaling, If you have discoloration around your eyes, you need a corrector & a concealer. The shade of corrector you need would depend on the color of your discoloration. If the discoloration is bluish, you would need an orange/salmon/peach or a pink corrector. If the discoloration is purple, you would need a yellow corrector. The corrector is applied to the discoloration by "tapping" it into the skin (don't rub or swipe). I apply a primer before I apply the corrector to help prevent creasing. The $1 ELF eye shadow primer works well for this (yes, applied under your eyes!). Next I top the corrector with concealer. I use a concealer that is a shade or 2 lighter than my skin. I apply the concealer in an upside down triangle (triangle of light). I tap this into my skin with my finger.
If you need a dark shade concealer, I suggest NYX HD. They make a shade called "Tan (CW07) & Nutmeg (CW08). NYX HD is a liquid concealer with a doe foot applicator. If you want a potted concealer, NYX Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer is great. This comes in the same 2 dark colors as the liquid concealer. NYX also makes nice correctors, both liquid & potted. I also like the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser correcting shades. The "brightener" shade which is pink & the "neutralizer" shade which is yellow.

muguet 10-19-2014 08:45 AM

Mizzthingaling I'm not as dark as you are I think (I'm about an NC45) but I understand the frustration. JerseyGyrl gave you amazing advice. Check out youtube, there are tons of darker girls with discolouration who give application and product advice.
This girl is intense but knows her stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFqi6bovHkU

Palestrina 10-19-2014 09:00 AM

Concealer - Givenchy. It's expensive but it's the only one I've tried that doesn't sit in my lines around the eyes so worth it.

Mascara - Clinique glossy black. It's a good every day mascara, I'm still trying to find a good volumizing night time dramatic mascara.

Eyeliner - Rimmel Kohl - I've got one in every color from Target!

Lipstick - I use neutrogena and burt's bees in the daytime. I've got fancy ones for nighttime of all brands.

Eyeshadow - this is the only product that I can only buy high-end. Drug store brands cannot compare to Dior, they glide on so smoothly.

3fcuser291505109 10-19-2014 03:11 PM

Makeup is huge in my life, on a forum called MakeupAlley, love it but i don't spend on HE just because of other priorities, i do shop Indies like Fyrinnae for gorgeous loose eyeshadow and mainly DS, new HG foundation oddly enough is CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous and i love Almay Get up and Grow mascara, the best wand i've ever come across

Started using Careprost (generic latisse) in mid July as my lashes due to age, dieting, are non existent and now they're long and getting lush, the lashes of my dreams! So mascara shopping is different now then when i had puny lashes.

Mizzthingaling 10-19-2014 07:50 PM

So many goo suggestions.

@Jersey- I don't have undereye darkness but I think you're right about the NYX. The tan looks like a good dupe for the Mac Studio finish I use to wear. I stopped wearing Mac because my skin was looking ruddy. When I switched it cleared.

@ Mug- I think we're the almost same color, I'm an NW40-45 depending on my tan in the summer though. My profile pic is just darkened.

I'll be by Sephora Tuesday so I'm going to try MUFE too just to compare. Anyone using BB/CC/DD/etc creams?

muguet 10-19-2014 09:32 PM

Mizzthingaling Awesome! I'll give you my shades. I haven't worn MAC foundations in a while so I think NC45 might be my darkest summer colour.
I use the MUFE HD Invisible Color in 350. It's super peachy and I bought it for correcting my undereye area.
I also have the Nars Creamy Concealer in Biscuit and the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-6. They don't match my skin 100% but they still do a pretty good job. All three are different textures which makes it great for different concealing jobs. Under my eyes I use the MUFE and then Nars and for blemishes or bigger areas, I'll mix the Laura Mercier colours with my foundation.
This girl is pretty spot on my shade and she has amazing recommendations: http://www.missbeautyadikt.co.uk/

JerseyGyrl 10-20-2014 07:19 AM

Personally not a fan of BB cream. I've tried a few and they're OK but, not my thing. My HG foundation is Studio Mineral Makeup loose mineral foundation. I found this almost 10 years ago now and fell in love. I had previously used Bare Minerals, but...I was honestly never happy with it. I couldn't find a good shade for my skin and I also didn't like the fact that Bare Minerals contains bismuth. It caused my skin to get red and sometimes itchy. Studio Mineral Makeup contains no bismuth, no talc and no mica. It goes on easily and smoothly and lasts all day even in humid weather. Its half the price of Bare Minerals. They have weekly sales and specials (up to 40% off) and the shipping is always FREE! I also love their blushes, glows and veils. I have several of their loose eye shadows as well. The "Hot Chocolate" eye shadow is my favorite. If I feel an occasional need for a liquid foundation, there are 2 from the drugstore that I like....Revlon Nearly Naked and Wet n Wild Coverall. If I wear either of these, I set them with NYC Smooth Skin loose powder, which I swear could be a dupe for Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. Its $3 and change at Walmart!

toastedsmoke 10-23-2014 01:31 PM

Oooh I'm a latecomer to makeup but now I love it and in particular I'm a foundation-aholic! I'm just getting into figuring out my eye-makeup situation but foundation, there is very little I haven't tried at least once. I'm black (MAC NC50/ Bobbi Brown 6.5/MUFE HD 177) and have sensitive (especially to cyclopentasiloxane), break-out prone skin so finding a foundation that works that runs as dark as I need it to is super difficult for me plus I'm a bit of a product junkie.

What my skin has hated foundation-wise is most MAC foundations, Bare Minerals, Becca Foundations, Anything from Lancome, NARS sheer glow and sheer matte, Gabriel powder foundation, Black Opal, Revlon, L'Oreal Tru Match, Sephora brand, Maybelline Fit Me and Dream Matte Mousse, Anything from Clinique etc etc. Let's just say it's been a frustrating and expensive journey figuring out what works for my skin from which my younger make up crazy cousins have benefited greatly. On the positive, trying so many foundations, I've been able to figure out what things offend my skin extra much and what offends only a little.

Makeup wise, my HG right now is:

Foundation:
Marc Jacobs Perfection Powder Featherweight Foundation
MAC MSFN in Dark
(If I had to wear liquid foundation and suffer a minor break out, I'd choose MUFE HD. The most beautiful foundation on skin though is Lancome Teint Idole but it gives me painful cyst-like zits).

Concealer
L'Oreal True Match Crayon Concealer
Black Opal Concealer Stick (although this breaks me out, it's beautiful on the skin)

Mascara
Shiseido Defining Volume Mascara
YSL Effet Faux Cils

Lipstick
Covergirls Lip Perfection Range is pretty awesome in every way.
Revlon Colorburst Lipsticks (the reds are really lovely)
Revlon Colorstay Lipbutter

Eyeliner
Prestige Eyeliner (is awesome for eye makeup beginners like me with shaky hands and not to waxy and greasy like many HE eyeliners)

Any recommendations for good, inexpensive eye shadow palettes? I have an elf one but the color payoff isn't amazing on me although that could be that I'm doing it wrong. Do you guys watch tutorials on YouTube? Who do you like/subscribe to?

JerseyGyrl 10-26-2014 06:38 AM

Primers? Which are your favorites?
I like Rimmel. Their Fix & Perfect Pro 002 is great. Have used it for several years now. Recently bought their Stay Matte primer and have to say, I am enjoying it just as well.
For eye shadow primers, I have 3 that I like. Wet n Wild Fergie is probably my favorite. I also like NYX (the one in the little jar) and the ELF $1 is great as well.

Mizzthingaling 10-28-2014 01:34 AM

@Mug- Thanks for the suggestions. I saw the Nars on someone on YT and it looked good. I will see if I can build it if needed.

@Jersey- I think BB works for some and not for others. I may just try one to see. I need something when I after a walk/run if I have to run an errand.

@Toasted- For cheap shadows, I have LA Color and they are pretty pigmented. Also, after Christmas I stock up on those eyeshadow Christmas kits that the stores are always trying to get rid of afterwards. I check all the drugstores/Target/Walmart for the best price. Sometimes you can get 5 eyeshadows, a couple lipsticks and some cheapie nail polish in one bunch.

toastedsmoke 10-28-2014 04:49 AM

Thanks @ MizzThingaling I'll check out LA Colour.

Let me know how that concealer worked for you!
For BB cream, I hear the Iman one is amazing. Her line is for tan to dark skintones so I'm sure you could find your shade in there!

toastedsmoke my favourite youtuber is by far Lisa Eldridge. If you're not already subscribed, I highly recommend her!! I rewatch her videos all the time.
Otherwise other favourites include Crystalis007 and emilynoel83 (for reviews), Monika Blunder (she's also a professional) and MakeupTIA (LOVE her!) and Karima McKimmie.
I watch the London crew a little but I'm not too impressed lately. I used to love Viviannadoesmakeup and Essiebutton but a lot of their content is sponsored or it just doesn't seem to me like they're using the products enough to rave about them.

Mizzthingaling 10-29-2014 11:55 PM

I just skipped over the Youtubers. I watch ColouredBeautiful, Stallion1920(good range or high and low end makeup), LisaAlaMode(knows coupons and sales), Nitraa B and Paville Aldridge. Most of them do beauty and fashion.

Oh and I use to use Iman. I will have to check it out.

toastedsmoke 10-30-2014 06:52 AM

Re my favourite YouTubers, I only recently found Lisa Eldridge on someone else on 3FC's recommendation and I really like her. I'm obsessed with GossMakeUpArtist, probably he's my favourite for just straight makeup tutorials and reviews. But I also subscribe to Make Up Game On Point, LovelyAnneka, LizLizLive, BeautybyJJ, MakeUpDoll, DestinyGodley and a few others who do makeup, hair, fashion, fitness and beauty in general. I'm checking out you guys' YT recommendations and just subscribed to Paville Andrews and Crystalis007.

JerseyGyrl 10-30-2014 07:03 AM

My favorite YouTuber for years now is Wayne Goss (Gossmakeupartist). The man is a genius when it comes to makeup. Love his tutorials & reviews. Also enjoy Emilynoel83 for reviews. She concentrates on a lot of drugstore products which is what I buy.
Treated myself to a new lipstick yesterday. In honor of Fall, I was looking for a burgundy / berry shade. I bought Milani Chilled Brandy. Looks pretty in the tube. I think I'll like it:)

Mizzthingaling 11-07-2014 05:42 PM

Jersey, I am loving that color. I will check and see if I can get it at CVS or Target. I love Milani lippies. They go smoothly.

I picked up another Jordana lipliner today. It's a lilac color. I like pairing that with pinks.

Bloopers 11-22-2014 05:15 AM

a few things i'm loving as of lately:

foundation - dermablend
loose powder - physician's formula
tinted lip balm - baby lips (i have too many shades to count, love them all)
eyeliner - NYC eyeliner

recently just bought a kabuki brush from sephora - makeup forever #110. i'm in LOVE with this brush, it applies my foundation so well! it's quite pricey but i see myself using it for a while.

weddingdressmission 11-22-2014 07:06 AM

Glad to read you all! Thanks for sharing!!

Two years ago, I discovered Mary Kay products. The new CC cream is amazing,
as the Ultimate mascara. Have a nice day :)

VermontMom 11-24-2014 08:13 AM

Oh gosh...my latest obsession ...individual fake eyelashes...bought the KISS pack that has trios knotted together, very short/short which really seem long to me but not outlandish. I've just been wearing 2 or 3 of them on each eye, and no one has looked at me strangely :D I do wear soft contact lenses and they do not hurt or irritate at all.

This is a big leap of faith for me!! Straight out of the shower, no makeup, just my fake lashes and my contact lenses.

Then next pic is all regular makeup on, except no eye makeup at all, except for brow help.

Then some close-up of the false lashes; last pic is with eyeliner and shadow.

luckystreak 12-29-2014 12:28 PM

Im an avid everything-but-eyeshadow lover, except im trying to get into that too!

My staples:

Concealer: I have incredibly dark under eyes, due to genetics, to the point where I was finding I needed to reapply concealer throughout my day and it was such a hassle. I have tried, honestly, maybe 50 types of concealers. My absolute favorite concealer that leaves me happy with a one time application is by "Make up forever" by sephora, it requires the tiniest amount for the best coverage, and isnt even too heavy. I also love and use Kat von D's Lock-it Tattoo foundation ontop of the cover up under my eyes, since the color precision is awesome! She has so many varieties.

Mascara: Affordable and one of my favorites: L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black, it competes with the higher end ones for me. Pricier, but also amazing:Shiseido Perfect Mascara Defining Volume. Super good! I love that it doesnt clump at all. Another amazing: YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils. As soon as I get the money, I'm going for that one.

Bronzer: On the hunt to finding the best one at the moment. I've been doing a lot of research as funny as it sounds.. I want a golden with a bit of shimmer and I have yet to try a bunch. :D

I think those are my staples. Anything else would be for a fancier night out!

Manderscommanders 12-30-2014 06:30 PM

Makeup is what I spend all of my paychecks on! I just got Mac's Velvet Teddy in the mail, and I'm so excited to try it out! I've been using their Fluidline liquid eyeliner which I love because I can get a precise wing, but it clumps in my lashes, is hard to remove, and dries up super quickly. I repurchased it sometime around October, and it's already dried up. I need to buy a new one, but I'm still broke from Christmas.
My top three drug store loves are: Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki (I use this as a highlighter on my cheekbones and cupid's bow); ELF eye shadow palettes; and my Sonia Kashuk foundation brush.
My top three high end loves are: The Urban Decay Naked Palette; my Mac Pro Longwear foundation (which is the only foundation that doesn't cake on my face); and for the last one I couldn't decide between my Urban Decay baked bronzer, my Too Faced Sweethearts blush in Candy Glow, or my Nars blush in Orgasm.

smoosmoo 02-05-2015 12:23 AM

My all time favorite is Urban Decay Basics palette. I do everything with it; contouring, highlighting, eyeliner and colour, plus it's easy to carry around.
I hardly wear foundation, more like BB-cream (Etude House's my favourite) if I ever need full coverage. I find it gives a very natural dewy and fresh looking finish. Can't go without the good old Maybelline concealer though.

I think those are my staples. Anything else would be for a fancier night out!

The too-faced "chocolate soleil" bronzer is one of my all-time faves (but it's matte). Another really good one that I think works for all skin-tones is the ever popular, Nars "Laguna." It has a little shimmer and just looks so nice.

As for myself, I'm a huuuuuge make-up junkie. Admittedly, I can't leave the house without foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, mascara, and eyeliner. I know that sounds like a lot, but it honestly only takes me like <10 minutes to do!

Top drugstore loves:
- Revlon Colorburst Balm (I carry 2 of these at all times - amazing!!)
- Revlon ColorStay Foundation (An amazing low-cost alternative to MAC's studio fix fluid!)

Top three high-end:
- Nars blushes/bronzers
- MAC Penultimate jumbo eyeliner
- Urban Decay Naked Palette
