Shopping before reaching goal

Hi everyone!

Necessities aside, do you guys like to shop for clothes before reaching your goal or mini-goals? I love to shop but recently I'm focusing on necessities and indulging in non-size related things like makeup and jewellery.

I've tried to buy only things I will be able to wear once I reach goal. Things like t-shirts, maxi dresses, shoes, accessories, make up and nail polish.

I shopped all the way down, went through multiple wardrobes and $$$$.

It really helped to keep me motivated. But darn, it was expensive!

Like? Hmmm, think Ian nailed it --- motivating and expensive. I recently had to invest in some new work clothes because I dropped a size or two. It was a great feeling to try on sizes I hadn't seen in years. I stuck to sale items but it adds up.

I buy things here and there. Part of it depends on how long it takes you to get to goal. The first 55 lbs went pretty rapidly, but once I hit a normal bmi the weight is not dropping as fast. MFP says I can only go down like 14 lbs in a year eating at 1200 calories.

I had a beautiful and very large wardrobe at my highest and couldn't afford to replace it as I lost so I tried wearing those clothes as long as possible but after a while the clothes really got too big and were unflattering/absurd looking. To get by, I've shopped at thrift stores, ebay, and discount stores like Ross while losing. I get depressed and feel gross when my clothes are too big and frumpy, so for me its been important to shop on the way down.

I have spent more money on clothes this past year than anything. I love to dress up and look nice. Even when i was 300 lbs i loved it. I find myself thrifting alot and wearing lots of skirts because a skirt will last longer than a pair of jeans. :) wearing basic black tops with pretty jewelry makes you look put together and i find it doesn't look like your wearing the same thing every day if you change your jewelry up. Scarves in winter and fall can make you look like you have different outfits even if you wear the same black shirt every day (washed of course). I've splurged more on jewelry than anything because like you said, you can wear that at any size. However beware of rings. I went from a size 9 ring down to a 6. My engagement ring doesn't fit anymore.

Goodwill, thrift stores and eBay! I have to have new (to me) clothes that are flattering or I wouldn't feel good about my progress.

However, it's nice to indulge in good pairs of shoes since (hopefully) my shoe size stays the same.

Same here as the other replies. I've had to buy some things or I wouldn't have much at all. Some pants/shirts were ridiculously big and I felt/looked awful in them. I'm checking out my charity shop this week. I also look in the 50% off rack too because I'm not going to be able to wear these new clothes next year. :D

I shop for where my body is now but thats not to say if i find something i really love thats too small i wont get it. feels great to slip into things that were once too small.

Thanks everyone, I'll remember how you guys felt and I'll definitely start saving up! As much as I'm excited to fit into smaller clothes, I'll be sad to let go of some items that I have in my wardrobe currently.

Muguet... I forgot to add this.. Safety pins on the inside. My favorite clothing (mostly dresses) i made some "modifications" with some safety pins and plan on permanently altering them when i'm at my goal! Its easy to just take the waist in a little bit with a safety pin.

That's genius!! Most of my favourite garments are dresses. Thanks so much for this, I'll definitely remember! :)
