Thanks for posting that link. It put me exactly where I thought I was.
What I've done is purchased the same brand of jeans the entire time. Luckily it's a brand that makes the same style from 22 down to 2. If it's on sale, I'll buy some in lower sizes too.
If I had to try on multiple things in multiple stores, I'd just go crazy at this point.
I just found out about this site yesterday and I think it's so nifty. You can input your measurements and it will tell you what size you are at various stores. (The default setting is UK, so one needs to be sure to switch to US.)
I should probably disclaim that I don't know how accurate it is. It sounds about right, though...
I appreciate the link, but wow . . . the waist measurement doesn't go high enough for me. But to be fair the measurement charts never work properly for me since I'm an apple/oval; I just need to actually try various things on and hope for the best.
Hahaha...that sizing site told me that I'd fit into 2s and 4s...it's so sweet of it to lie to me like that. 64 cm jeans are still in the mid to high end of normal sizes here, so I can't imagine that it equates to something that much smaller back at home...
I don't think there is a true size. I get pants in my size that are all over the board. I'm an 18, generally, but 18's from Lands End are tight in the waist on me, whereas 18's from Eddie Bauer are about 4" loose on my waist (but fit my legs great). It's a guessing game and you just have to try them on, I guess, and be prepared to return the ones that don't fit.
what would a true size be? no matter what decade you are looking at or what store, they are just made up standards.
btw, when I worked at a clothing store lots of times people would try on, say, a 12 and it would be too small so they would try a 14 and it would be too big so I would just get them another 12 and it would fit. Sizes can vary according to who sewed them at the factory. And probably even where they were in the pile when the pieces were cut.
Any way that I can be a 16 in an 18 world of mine I'll take it!
I was reading somewhere (maybe on that link) that brands that run big for sizes sell a boatload more of their brand as women want to feel "skinny". I'd have to say, it would work for me now during my weightloss transition. I am only an 18 in certain pants but it sure does make me happy as it shows progress to me. If I could do a 16 in ANY brand, I'd be doing cartwheels all around town. (And yes, I would still "know" I was as big as an 18. It's just mental to me I guess.)
Elvislover, It does have a 'guilty pleasure' feeling to wear 16s even though their vanity..however they psychological games some stores are playing make me feel downright creepy...last weekend I was not in the fitting room, I was in the rack areas of Marshalls, every mirror had me looking skinny, Ibcouldn't take it, it was like they are there to 'lie to us' so we'll think 'heck ya, I'm goin' home w/ this stuff'. Suffice to say I bought ziltch there. lol
You should indulge in gap/old navy..they have cute jeans too.

OMG, you are so right!! Marshalls does have those tricky mirrors now that I think of it! They have nice lighting too! I bought an outfit back in November for Thanksgiving and when I got home and tried it on in front of my husband, it didn't look half as good to me as I remembered in the store. And the stuff went back!
I wrote on another thread that I bought a new (to me) pair of Levis at the Goodwill store (I swear they are brand new without the tags, they are in perfect condition). They cost me $2.50 and are a size 20. Mentally, I never wanted to wear a size 20 again (I finally can get into 18Ws) but for the price and fit of these jeans, I loved them enough to buy them. I went to Levis site when I got home to see how much they were in case I decide to buy a new pair at regular price and they are $50 (on sale from $58!). I could never ever spend that much on a pair of jeans, no matter how great my butt looked.
I have a pair of Old Navy jeans in an 18 (no W) and can finally get them up and buttoned but can neither breathe nor sit in them yet (last week I couldn't button them!). I can already tell I am going to love them too.
My body is so different this time around with my weightloss, I don't understand it but I think I love it. Except for the belly pouch I am getting. Not loving that and never had it before with my weightloss. Hopefully I can work on that.

Elvislover, I can't stand they practice techniques as those.
My hubby installed a full length mirror in our walk in closet, when I'm weak and bring something home to wear, it has to meet the 'true' mirror test here. I have eliminated buying much due to their tactics..too bad I hadn't done this when I wore above 18s because the only ones who benefited from so much I had past bought (70%) was the goodwill.
Glad you are wise to them too, the retailers are mind players..

I do a lot of buying and returning now that I am on my weightloss mission. Clothes are too expensive to settle for less than total happiness to me this time around.
I haven't shown up on any warning lists at the stores as far as I know for excessive buying and returning, I'm not that bad! I just like to try things on now in my mirrors with the coordinating shoes/accessories/pants or skirt or top that I would pair with it.
I have way too many clothes in my closet still with the tags on them that I just "had" to have way back when I bought them. Done with that!
