Preventing long, thin hair from tangling

Are there any products or oils that I can put in my hair to prevent this? I have long, straight, fine hair that goes down to my lower back and I really want to be one of those girls who can sit on their hair :D but I have an ongoing problem with knots. I will brush my hair out and it will become knotted within 10 minutes and, since my hair is so thin, it does not hide knots very well. I don't really have many split ends and my hair is healthy but it is so fine that just walking creates enough movement to create a knot. Any advice? I don't care so much about volume. I just want to have long, knot-free hair.
Thanks!

Kat

My hair is similar. I've always had a problem with knots. My hair isnt super thin but it's down to my lower back and super straight naturally. I always using smoothing shampoo and while my hair is still damp, I put a few drops of Paul Mitchell's "Super Skinny Serum" in my hair. My hairdresser told me that this would essentially smooth out my hair and keep the knots from forming in the back of my hair. It helps a LOT. Also, make sure you are running a comb through your hair and not just a brush. Sometimes a brush will miss a tiny knot whereas a comb really gets through your hair thoroughly. When you do comb make sure you start at the ends and work your way up. Hope some of this helps!

I don't have long hair but I have the same problem with mega tangles. One thing that works really well is the spray bottle of Johnson's "No More Tangles" (for babies but it works super well and is gentle on adult hair).

yep I have this. Anything below shoulder length gets me tangled up. There's a Pantene detangler for fine hair that works wonders when it's wet when you need to comb it.

As for tangles when its dry, I haven't found anything for that.

I remember when I had hair you could sit on, it was pretty annoying. I think long hair is annoying in general. Right now, my hair is longer than I'd like and I often keep it up in a bun to get it out of the way.

Is your hair dry at all? How often are you combing your hair? How often do you wash your hair?

It might be that your ends are dry and you need to moisturize them or use a product just at the ends of your hair. Combing your hair with a bristle brush will help spread the oils to the ends of your hair but that is probably not enough. If you are washing your hair every day (I don't recommend this), then that can be contributing to your dryness. Also, putting your hair up or braiding can prevent tangles but also help prevent drying out.

Oh and I'd recommend this type of brush to help spread the oils and comb your hair:
