Mixed feelings about my old clothes
I've lost enough weight now that I just can't wear many of the clothes I used to because they are too loose on me. On one hand, I'm happy that I need a smaller size. But at the same time I have some clothes I really love that I know won't fit me anymore, and I feel sad at the idea of getting rid of them. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hey there, I'm going through the same dilemma. I have some really beautiful dresses, tops and jackets that I'm going to have to say good-bye to. And it is definitely sad :(
The other irritating part is that I don't want to buy new stuff until I'm at goal, because I'm scared the new things start looking silly also when I lose more weight. So I can't even replace my nice clothes with new nice clothes yet. I'm feeling your pain, but just keep in mind that soon you'll be able to buy new things which you may love even more, because you'll love your body more! |
Over the winter, I was so happy to be able to fit into a sweater from years ago that I loved. Now, it's too big but I can't bring myself to donate it just yet. So I know how you feel, but I'll tell you that it's a lot of fun buying new clothes.

Dealing with that, too. Actually going to see about having some pants taken in. They are too big but I like them, and I want to be closer to goal before buying new ones.

When you're at goal get some of your very favourites taken in, in the mean time I'd say thrift stores are your friend. I'd also say keep a favourite outfit to wear further down the line to see how far you've come. It's a good way to see progress - I put on my old favourite trousers now and then to see how they look and I'm swimming in them now. Now I have nice trousers that I look a million times better in and I feel more comfortable too, I think that's the most important thing.
There will always be nice clothes so don't worry about the old ones. |
My mom did this. Maybe you could see a tailor for some of your nicer pieces?
|
I just might have some of my things taken in later on, and yes, I think I will have to become best friends with the local thrift stores because I can't afford to buy new clothes every several months as I under-grow them.

Get rid of it and start a new life.
Trust me, it feels good afterwards :) And - you can absolutely get new pretty things right now! Tons of places where you can get cheap "in between" clothes that look nice. Ross, Target, H&M, Forever 21, etc. For sure, it doesn't make sense to get a ton of variety but you really should get nice things for yourself to celebrate your successes! The most fun part is... buying nice things somewhat too small... and then working on fitting into them... and not fitting anymore when the same things become too huge. An awesome feeling! |
To be honest I am quite excited for when this happens!! I know what you mean though, I have some absolute favourites that I will be sad to say goodbye too- I am going to try and take some of them in, and keep hold of them!

I have so far gone from a size 20-22 to a 12-14 and had to replace my entire wardrobe and it feels great! Sell your current collection and use the money for skinnier clothing.
Couple of things that I keep in mind while I go down: -Don't ever buy full price and I concentrate on Thrift stores or super clearance. -Buy what I love. Don't just buy because it is on sale and in my size. - Only buy a few neutral pieces in each size and try to make the items stretch throughout at least 2 size drops. Alternate older stuff with newer stuff. I buy something for each size but very few items. - spend money on things that will last me through any size. Concentrate on accessories. Bags, belts, make up, earrings, necklaces. Remember feet shrink too so don't buy expensive shoes if you can help it. - I try on a ton of clothing and see what looks best at each size. I hope this helps. I have a great wardrobe now and love MOST everything that I have. I figured out my style and although my wardrobe is small, it seems to be versatile. I shop 90% at thrift stores and I really love what I am becoming. |

For years I hated clothing. Partly because I was heavy but mostly because I never found what I liked in typical stores. What helped me is that I opened a pinterest account and have been saving photos of things that I like. I shop on line too. Don't be afraid to send something back if you don't like it. Also buy things you love that can work with other outfits. Versatility is key to have a cohesive style. |
