Make-up

Since there's about 4 zillion brands/types of foundation out there, do you have any recommendations?

I'm currently using Arbonne and it's pretty good, but would like to try something new. I've also used Bare Minerals, and I liked that, so might go back to it...

Anything else good out there?

Admittedly I looooove Mac concealers, and every bag I own has one of those garnier undereye concealer pens because of their convenience.

stillmeadow 05-28-2012 08:09 PM

Yomp - Sorry, I don't wear too much eye makeup so can't recommend a liner that lasts.

DesertTabby - good to know about garnier undereye concealer, I always wondered if it was any good...gotta try it now. thanks

I use Smoky Mountain Minerals. Have been using it for over 6 years now and absolutely LOVE it! Its about 1/3 the price of Bare Minerals and contains no bismuth oxycholoride.
As for eyeliner, Physicians Formula gel liners are great!

dolceduchess 05-28-2012 09:45 PM

Stillmeadow: I like make up forever hd foundation

Yomp: try macs fluid line gel eyeliners you can use an eyeliner brush if you do the top of your lids or even use a eye pencil dip it in the formula and use it as a stylus to do your waterline. Honestly it's the best ever. For eyeliner pencils I recommend revlon colorstay, urban decay 24/7 eyeliner or make up for ever aqua eyes

dolceduchess, thanks for the rec, it got very good reviews on Amazon.

JerseyGyrl, I never heard of Smoky Mountain Minerals, I'll check it out...thank you.

Urban decay eye & lip liners and Bobbi Brown gel liner

If you are young Bare Minerals is good, older it shows all lines. I use a tinted moisturizer, like Dr Denese, Laura Mercer or Aveeno.

Stillmeadow,

At age 50 I still have trouble with adult acne breakouts so I use Neutrogena's Skin Clearing line.

I also like Neutrogena's new sheer lip balm.

You can find them here:

They are an excellent company to do business with....they have sample sizes, always have FREE shipping and if you sign up for their weekly email newsletter, they have discounts every week.
Its the BEST mineral makeup I've ever used (and I've tried many!) and as I said previously, I've been using it over 6 years now and wouldn't use anything else.
Its also organic, gluten free and contains a natural sunscreen and no bismuth oxycholoride like Bare Minerals which tends to cause irritation & itching for a lot of people.
I will be 51 in a few months. I use a good moisturizer & primer before applying my minerals and it doesn't settle into lines.
I'd also like to mention their soft pink blush is my favorite blush!
I can't say enough good about Smoky Mountain Minerals!

Wow, thanks for all that info! I like that it's organic and has sun screen - and free shipping!

I'm on my way to their website right now!

I've also tried bare minerals. Although I do like the product, I'm WAAAAY to lazy and simple to go through the different steps every morning.

I use neutrogena skin clearing mineral powder and love it.

queenie91 05-31-2012 02:47 AM

Stillmeadow, it greatly depends on your skin type.
I am a foundation whore (lol) and have tried many out there. I have horrible skin that is prone to breakouts but with the right primer can look flawless
my top 3 would have to be..
In 3rd place
Make Up Forever HD Foundation

This has low coverage so if you have fairly normal skin that doesn't have from scars or blemishes this would be perfect.

2nd place
MAC studio fix fluid

Great foundation with medium - high coverage but always had to use with concealer. Finds it leaves my skin oily after 8 hours at work but nothing blotting tissue can't handle.

1st place
Estee Lauder Double Wear

I love this!!! It definitely has high coverage. Never need concealer with it and powder isn't necessary either. I can swear by it, this is the best foundation ever.

Kind of disappointed I went through all the trouble of including pics only to find out I need 25 posts. Doh!

serendipity907 05-31-2012 06:21 AM

I have dry/normal skin, I mostly just use foundations to even out my skin tone.

I am a huge fan of Lily Lolo mineral powder foundation. I *think* it's an even more natural version of BE, either way it has fantastic staying power, doesn't look cakey or dry on my skin and gives a lovely glow (No shimmer in it though! Yay)

Since becoming a convert to the above powder foundation, I don't tend to use many liquid foundations but I do love my BRTC Aqua Rush BB cream-Again it has a nice finish and coverage and doesn't cling to any dry patches I might have.

I also quite like Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation, I tend to just use this foundation lightly as it proves a lot more coverage than I want or need. The formula for dry skin feels nice and doesn't show up any dry patches.

As with all liquid foundations I personally find my preferred method for application is to dab it onto my face and pat it in gently.
