Are dark colors really slimming? Please help me pick an Easter outfit

I can't decide between the two. I want to wear the one that's most flattering (i.e. makes me look the thinnest lol). Thanks for any opinions!

IMHO #1 is best ... not just because it's dark but because it gives your torso a longer line since it's a solid colour.

bargoo 04-06-2012 12:59 PM

I vote for # 1 also.

berryblondeboys 04-06-2012 01:00 PM

See, I think #2 is more flattering on you and fits the Easter weekend better. Black is not Easter.

hle82 04-06-2012 01:02 PM

I like #2. The colors stand out, is still flattering and is more warm given the holiday.

Resipoo 04-06-2012 01:05 PM

Are you going to church? If so, number 2 is inappropriate. Otherwise, I think 2 is very flattering. 1 is best for church.

PrincessSophia 04-06-2012 01:11 PM

I think #2 is better. V-neck helps you to look thinner and the colors are better for the holiday.

Not in any churches I know.

beachlover86 04-06-2012 01:22 PM

I don't really think either are church appropriate however I vote for number 2. The colors are much more suitable. Black is not for Easter and you will probably look out of place. Most people choose bright spring colors for pastels for Easter but either way choose color. :)

threenorns 04-06-2012 01:25 PM

"dark colours are slimming" is a myth.

the colour that is slimming is the colour that looks best on you bec it highlights your face and skin, not your shape. if you are a winter or autum, then dark/intense colours will suit you best. if you are a spring or summer, however, you'd look best in pastels or dilutes.

wearing hte wrong colour will make your skin look pasty and blotchy and, bec you are subconsciously aware that you are not looking your best, you'll be more likely to slump and slouch making you look heavier. wearing the right colour will boost your confidence bec subconsciously you are aware you look great, making you stand taller and instantly dropping 10lbs.

here's an online quiz to help you determine: http://www.seventeen.com/fun/quizzes...skin-tone-quiz

I like number 2 better; it's more youthful.

banananutmuffin 04-06-2012 01:28 PM

This will be for after church (I have a different church outfit), so that's not a concern.

I am always in black, no matter the holiday or event. My family won't be surprised to see me in black on Easter, trust me. It's a running joke among everyone.

I *like* the idea of wearing color, but the purple top is a bit snug, so my muffin top is kinda of obvious (in person). Also, I do wonder if the deep purple/white combo kind of truncates me a bit.

Hubby voted for the black one, but the material of it is just a cotton knit. Although it doesn't hug my body, when I bend over or whatever, it does cling to my rolls.

Thanks for the opinions! I was hoping for a solid majority, so I guess either are ok. lol

mammasita 04-06-2012 01:36 PM

I vote #2.

I always feel like dark colors look best on me, but end up getting the most compliments when I step outside of my comfort zone and wear a bright (Or anything other than black or grey LOL) color.

inglesita64 04-06-2012 03:59 PM

I like number 2... I think number 1 is a bit too formal for a Spring family gathering. In number 2, the lighter color balances the upper, darker color much better, since you look thinner below the waist. I would shorten the shirt a couple of centimeters to make your lower body look longer --I am short and always have to shorten the shirts a little, because they are made for taller people. Also, try wearing your hair in a pony tail or a nice bun... I think that must be look great on you. Have a nice Easter!

mariposssa 04-06-2012 04:05 PM

If you are going for the one that makes you look slimmer...I think the first one gives you better lines. Even your legs appear thinner in it. But, I also agree with the others that the second outfit is more spring appropriate.

Serenity100 04-06-2012 04:45 PM

I think they both look great. It doesn't seem as if you should worry about looking slimmer in either of them to me.:) #2 shows off your curves more, and the color is more alive.

I don't know where the not appropriate for church comments are coming from, they both look great to me.

Moonsai 04-06-2012 05:42 PM

I like #1 but it'd be awesome if you could add a waist belt to it if you could find one in black.

Exhale15 04-06-2012 07:48 PM

#2 Is happier, more Easter-like.

Thighs Be Gone 04-06-2012 08:37 PM

You are beautiful! Wear what the **** you want! :)

Thighs Be Gone 04-06-2012 08:38 PM

BTW, I vote purple, white get up

Bloopers 04-06-2012 09:21 PM

They both look fine, I'm learning towards #1 more just because I don't think the skirt go well with that purple blouse.

Good luck!

runningfromfat 04-06-2012 09:51 PM

I definitely prefer #2. It shows off your slim waist and the colors look great for Easter. You look very cute, by the way! Oh, and from the other thread you're definitely not a 34band! You could very well be a 28F or there about. Check out the blog Invest in Your Chest. Cheryl is a 28F for comparison.

Riddy 04-06-2012 10:06 PM

They both look great on you, but I prefer #2. I'm a big fan of purple, plus that top make the girls look great! And I gravitate towards brighter, lighter colors for Easter - like a visual reminder that spring is coming...

LadyWraith 04-07-2012 12:22 AM

I don't like #1 at all. To me it hides your body and just hangs there. #2 is the better fit on your body (make the girls up top look great!) and shows off your waist. The white also compliments your skin tone well. It's also more "springy". #1 looks like a great winter outfit when paired with some leggings and boots... but not for spring IMO.

Tanna Banana 04-07-2012 12:38 AM

Could you put a brightly colored belt or scarf with the black? That might make it seem more springy.

Alyj89 04-07-2012 02:36 AM

I like both but I think I like the dress the best. I'm just find of that style. You could find a big belt to wear high and show off your curves more? I also am not crazy about the white and purple together even if it is more springtime.

begoodjen 04-07-2012 01:07 PM

I like 2...more spring-y!

kimminy 04-07-2012 01:33 PM

I think #2 is best, colours are always better!
Plus, #2 shows off your body better. Wear what makes you feel good though. You look good in both of them, I just like #2 better :)
