Slacks for curvy bodies
So, I thought all of my clothes problems would be solved at goal weight. Ha! I'm still having the exact same problem with slacks. If it fits in the hips and thighs, the waist gaps in the front or back or both.
Any suggestions? Are there brands or clothing lines that better fit my pear-shaped body type? Are there customization possibilities? I've had some good luck at Nordstrom's, but they frown at reducing the waist size. And, if they will do it all, depending on the waistband style, they charge for it. Do I need a tailor? Are there any pants or jeans that can be made to measure for women? Do I need to love shapewear? Would that help my problem? Thanks for any advice! |
Well, I am also pear-shaped and have several pairs of JCPenney's Worthington "curvy-fit" slacks. They're cheap, come in several colors and fits, and fit pretty well. It's worth taking a pair to the dressing room!

I have a pretty pronounced swayback, so I have to wear low-rise work pants (no) or take alternate measures.
I say, buy to fit your largest part and get thee to a tailor. As for fit, I really dig Banana Republic's pants. I also like the Editors from Express -- they're pretty forgiving. The cost of alterations shouldn't be too bad! |
Ha and DITTO @swayback!
I second the Editor Pant from Express - I have them for work pants, but also in casual denim and corduroy. I've got quite a backside, hips/thighs, but a small waist. They fit me perfectly. I also just bought INC curvy jeans from Macy's and they're great. |
I have a review of Levi's Surpeme Curve ID jeans here. I've also heard amazing things about PZI jeans but I haven't tried them yet.
FWIW, I've also had that problem for years and the Levi's are the first jeans that really took care of it. Certainly pants/jeans with stretch can take care of it initially but they always stretch out by the end of the day and end up being really baggy on me! Grrr. I love Levi's because they have a few different curves so you can try them on and see what fits best for you! ;) |
Dockers makes curvy fit pants. The pair that I have fit me really well.

Dress pants for me is Raffella (not sure I spelled that correctly) in the modern fit. I generally buy low rise pants as I am only 5 ft 3 in and curvy. I love Levi's low rise boot cut jeans. Also, I love my new Calvin Klien jeans that are boot cut and low rise.

I have the same problem; my thighs need a size 8 or a 10, but my waist really needs a 6. The jeans that seem to fit me best are the Levi's perfectly slimming boot cut jeans (http://us.levi.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=10946807). They are the jeans I'm wearing in my goal photos (linked in my signature). I don't know what kind of rise you are looking for, but these are a higher rise jean - which works for me because it helps to keep my lower belly in. :)

Thanks everyone! I'm really looking forward to trying on some slacks now! Which is a big improvement over my attitude of a few days ago!
