The North Face
 

Last year I was looking at The North Face jackets/coats. I decided against buying anything since I wasn't at goal yet. I am wanting to find out some more information about them before I even go look again. TIA

Do you have a North Face coat/jacket?

Are they any warmer than any other jacket?

Is there a particular style that you recommend?

Any other information you want to share?

So I don't have a north face coat...but I'm going to comment anyhow. When I went to college (Purdue-- quite cold and windy in northern IN), I got a Columbia coat, and I must say, it was one of the warmest I'd ever had. Previously, I'd only had ones from department stores or something, so nothing very expensive or nice.

Ever since, I've bought Columbias. However, North Face coats are probably about the same quality, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of those, either. There just happens to be a Columbia outlet where my parents live, so I buy those. My columbias have also lasted longer than the cheaper brands. I wore that first coat for four years and only replaced it because I wanted a new style. Then I replaced the second one when I lost 70 lbs.

So, I'm just putting in a plug for well-made winter coats. They really are warmer and well worth the extra $$ if you're in a really cold area. I still live near Purdue, so I still need something good.

DH and I have both owned Columbia/North Face jackets. They are DEFINITELY worth the money! DH has had his current jacket for a couple of years now and it still looks great. Plus he practically wears it year round because he removes the exterior and wears the fleece part quite a bit.

I don't have one at the moment but really want to buy one once I get to goal. I think mine was my favorite jacket ever. ;)

ETA: Yes, i think they're warmer. I also think if you do any winter type sports they are great because you can just remove the interior and wash it. Really, I can't think of any complaints (except they aren't that dressy but that's ok too). I would suggest buying one with the removable fleece because I see that as one of the major pluses with them.

Thank you for the suggestions and recommendations. I have also seen the Columbia coats. I will look at those too, when I get ready to purchase. We are actually in a warmer climate, although last year we had a very cold Winter for us. I have spoken with other people and they say that these types of coats/jackets are less bulky while being warmer than anything else. I pretty much stay cold all the time now, since I have lost weight. It's not necessarily just the weight loss, DH likes the temps cooler in the house/car than me. We have always had a temp difference, now that difference is even more obvious.

Have a look at the North face Windwall jacket. I have a Mountain Hardwear one in similar windstopper fabric and absolutely love it (but sadly havent been able to zip it up since having kids...working on that!). They are just great -- lightweight and not bulky but amazingly warm.

I lived in Minnesota when I got it, and we did lots of outdoorsy stuff in winter (x-country skiing, walking etc), and I was so delighted that I could wear such a streamlined jacket and still be so warm. My kids currently have the kids' versions of the NF Windwall jackets, and they are wonderful.

North Face makes an excellent product. I have been very happy with everything I own from them. I do find their styles not as feminine as Patagonia so check them out, too. Patagonia is just as good if not better. There is a North Face outlet in Northern CA here so maybe research if you have one in your area. Current colors and styles usually run 50% off retail. Also 6pm.com is the clearance site of zappos and they have discontinued colors discounted.

Prism21 Thanks for the info. I have never heard of 6pm.com. I will take a look at their site and check into Patagonia.
