It depends on the dress to be honest. When I buy maxi dresses, I usually buy the sort that looks like greco-roman so it looks a bit tight near the waist and it is a bit revealing on the breast area. Some maxi dresses look like a sack of potatoes when not worn with a belt so I am quite selective.
