I have the same oily hair issue. If i shower and wash it in the morning by 6-7 hours its oily again and needs to be put up. Ive tried the do not wash your hair everyday trick for about a month, HA that did nothing. Ive tried different shampoos and conditoners, cheap ones, and expensive ones and nothing does anything. Oily hair is caused by pores. WE have pores on our scalp just like our faces. The pores on the scalp are bigger and ours are over doing it LOL. you can dry botox... ive heard but im good on that. One other thing ive heard but not tried is witch hasel oil? With a cotton ball, put some witch hasel on it than rub the cotton ball on the hair. one more would be, at the end of your shower run cold water thru the hair to close the pores back up, we do this with our faces so same with our heads would most likley help.

I actually did baking soda this morning to get rid of the build up because i have dry ends and greasy sides by my ears and with dark hair it sucks!! I do that about once a month, it really works.

Tea Tree shampoo is amazing for oily hair.

I have very oily hair naturally, and the only shampoo that keeps my hair nice and silky without being greasy is the ginger shampoo from the Body Shop. I can wash my hair every other day and it stays nice, sometimes even for 3 days. I'm sure there is something out there that'll work for you

Back about a month or so ago I read an article that claimed that oil production is caused by some type of microorganism on the scalp. Their suggested solution was to knock it out with tea tree oil shampoos or tea tree oil mixed into a shampoo. This should be used for several weeks. They also recommended trying to stretch the time in between shampoos.
Unfortunately, I don't remember the source. |
Yeah, I currently go to a Paul Mitchell school, and I used to the PM Tea Tree special shampoo, and it worked for me =]

If you're looking for a gentle shampoo, those that are made for color-treated or chemically-treated (permed, etc) hair are ideal. Some are under the misconception that shampoo like that is only made for those with processed hair, but really the shampoo is just very gentle so as to not strip the color or the perm/relaxant out of the hair. I use Biolage for color-treated hair and it is very gentle. You might try that.

IA that using a clarifying shampoo everyday is making things worse. Try using a moisturizing shampoo every other day. I reccomend Suave Naturals Shea Butter and Almond Shampoo.
