Haircut help? :/

I've been bleaching my hair pretty regularly for about a year now to dye it blue. The blue was lovely, but now it's kind of breaking off in the middle all the time/falling out. It is looking more and more raggedy coming as it does all the way down my back. Only about half my hair, maybe less, actually makes it more than half that distance.

So I think it may be time for a haircut. The problem is, I'm kinda chunky and I feel like short (shoulder length or less) hair cuts do not do good things for me. So I beg of you please, if you know of any haircuts that you might work, please tell me. Or if you think that my best option is to keep my raggedy hair until I get better hair growing in that would be good to know too.

My hair tends to be very wavy when short, and on the frizzy side.

Thanks for any help!

You are too cute!

I haven't cut my hair in months. I've got too many split ends it's awful! But if you had to guess how many inches would need to be cut off, what number would that be? Congrats on the huge weight loss success!! You look great!

props on your weight loss first of all, you look awesome!

and also, i don't think you should really worry about not having the face for a short hair cut. Your jaw line is very nice, and you have a graceful neck.. so i think you can totally pull it off!

and you might want to stop bleaching your hair if you haven't already, it's one of the worst things you can do to it.

I think I saw a thread on 3FC at one point where girls were talking about curly hair and how to find a hairdresser who really knows how to cut curly hair. It was really interesting. Your hair looks thick and like it has lots of lovely, wavy body so I think a cut that's shoulder length (when dry) with maybe a few layers in it just to let it be kind of wavy and free. You've got delicate features and I think it would be cute.

You want a curly hair specialist. Find them here:

I think your face is perfectly fine for short hair; even if you just have someone cut those straggly pieces at the back into a bob or maybe a nice layered effect at the nape of your neck at the back. You may be surprised how good it looks on you as you have a Scottish pixie nose and other nice features like pretty almond-shaped eyes & a nice mouth.

Plus I agree that the bleaching is damaging your hair and you could find other ways to color your hair, since there are much safer products out there today. A really short pixie cut is another option, that would allow you to grow your hair out with something unique and different for awhile ... :D

You would rock a short haircut, find the right person to do it. Very pretty :)

Hmmm, not at all what I expected people to say, but thanks nonetheless. It's probably worth saying that after a year and a half of bleaching my hair is actually much thinner and not nearly as wavy as before, I suspect even if I cut it. I should have realized that sooner. This bears a little more thinking about, and maybe a consult with a hairdresser, but I'm thinking that it is an incredibly dumb idea to cut my hair to around my chin, so my choices are probably either relatively long or really short.

Regardless, thanks for your advice, and I'll tell you what I end up doing.

Also: Justwant2Bhealthy, what do you mean by "there are other ways to color your hair"? If there are I'd love to try them, but I have never heard of any.

I think you could rock a pixie cut! Google Katie Holmes, Keira Knightley - they have a similar face shape and they look great.
You can go dark with your hair for a while even as much as a blue-black or leave it natural until all of the damaged hair is grown and cut off. Use a leave in conditioner or moisturizing shampoo
Once the damaged hair is gone your hair will get stronger and healthier. Especially if you eat well and don't smoke
Plus pixies are super easy to manage, just wash- and if you have frizzy hair (like me ) a tiny bit of mousse - done!

When you bleach it, are you only bleaching the regrowth? Or all of it, every time?

Also, I think you could pull off a shorter cut nicely! :D

Why not try some new hair cuts on before you get them? Check out the link in this thread...

Hi!

Do you use boxed, grocery store hair dye, or are you mixing your own from the beauty supply?

My hair got much better when I started mixing my own. The box dyes can have way too much bleach (L40). On my own I use a L20 (peroxide level) and my hair has thanked me for it.

I'd suggest a cut just to shoulder length, then gently layered around the face. Might also try just highlighting the T-zone (crown and hair right around your face). That will give you some brightness w/o having to do the whole head.

Good luck!
