Really?

Mine does exactly that.

It will stop growing for months.

See, I'm with Julie. Mine never stops growing. Never.

If it wouldn't, I wouldn't have to pay for cuts, trims in between, and new highlights when the old ones grow out completely.

Also I wouldn't see more gray strands coming in every couple months.

I don't think my hair gets mad at me, but it does sort of mindlessly misbehave, usually due to humidity levels.

I thought that hair didn't stop growing ... that, in fact, it even grows a bit after you're dead & in your coffin.

"Hair grows a half-inch per month, whether you cut it or not," says John Barrett, owner of the John Barrett Salon in New York City. Hair may grow slightly faster in the summer, but that has nothing to do with the stylist's scissors and everything to do with hormones, which do speed growth a little. One thing a trim will do: Eliminate split ends, making hair look better.

Yeah my hair actually is shinier and feels sooo nice the first month after I cut it. I straighten it sometimes, but not often (~4 times a month) and I use a heat spray. So I dunno. Plus I always thought it was healthy to get your hair cut regularly? Because if you don't you get split ends, and then they split all the way up the hair and break... or something, that's what the ladies that do my hair always told me.

I actually have no idea how to take care of my hair. It's very fine and thin. I wish it was long, but the longer it gets the thinner it gets. I keep it at shoulder length. I tried the whole no conditioning my hair thing, and my hair gets really wispy and almost fro-like and looks terrible (and feels terrible). So I shampoo/condition every day, but I rotate different ones so it always feels pretty soft. I use Paul Mitchel skinny serum too. I actually suck at hair.

Can anyone tell me how to get it to not be so wispy? Because it is no matter what I do.

I actually thought that, too, about hair cuts.
Could you go into more detail on the 'wispy' part maybe?

JustImagine 06-27-2010 05:26 PM

I don't think you should be washing/conditioning your hair every day.
It's actually very bad for your hair. ;/

Maybe do a hot oil treatment once a month to make it stay softer.

I had a Keratin treatment done to my hair, and I love it. :]

I think my hair is probably one of my favorite aspects about myself, so I treat is as well as I can. Though, I find I'm a bit more of a purest with my hair. I've only ever dyed it once (when I was in middle school) but it was only to put in highlights.

My hair is a very dark brown. People sometimes even mistake it for black in certain lights. It's about 6 inches past my shoulder and is naturally wavy. I find if I tuck my hair behind my ears after showering and let it dry naturally, I get these wonderful waterfall curls. I don't use any hair product or use a blow dryer. I also usually get my hair cut about every 6 months.

Yeah, I really love my hair. :)

my hair is naturally curly and I'm quite low maintenance with it. I'm fascinated by pixie cuts but they don't work for me. I look butch, not feminine and pixie-ish at all. The shorter it is the curlier it is and I have lots of it.
I wore it long for years but it shed like a medium size dog and people met my hair before they met me. I'm happy with it now because it's short, fun and not at all matronly ( when I tried for pixie, I ended up with 'old lady'.

My hair stylist has and knows naturally curly hair, so I leave it all up to her....

Well it's very fine so I guess a LOT of flyaways... especially because it's pretty layered. But again, the fine-ness makes it look wispy. Maybe I need a frizz serum.

And if I don't wash it every day it gets oily, and because my hair is thin it's very noticeable. I tried powder on my hair to absorb the oil, but it feels and looks weird. If I don't condition it, it looks like a fro. And my hair feels rough and it's hard to run my fingers through my hair. So I mean, I have no idea what to do.

I currently have bangs and I am not sure why but having them cut always stresses me out a lot. (I'm nervous about how it is going to turn out). My bangs are currently too long and I have been dragging my feet about getting them cut again because as I said it kind of stresses me out.

I used to really want my hair to be blonde and would get it dyed/highlighted, and also at times used Sun-In, which totally horrifies any hair stylist that I tell that to. lol. I stopped doing anything to my hair because I wanted to know when I actually started getting grey hairs. (If it was being kept blonde I figured I would never know). I have since gotten a few greys, but I have come to realize that my hair looks a TON healthier and more vibrant in its natural color. I think that if the greys start coming in A LOT I would go back to a blonder shade though.

Hmm...may I ask what your hair pattern is? I might have missed it but is it like wavy, curly, straight, etc?
A frizz serum might work though! I use to use them a lot and especially if I blowed (is that a word?) my hair out I didn't have a lot of fly aways.

For years and years the stylists kept telling me I should have layers so it would look thicker and I believed them, but never was really happy with it - to me it just looked straggly. Finally I put my foot down, grew out the layers and it looks so much better this way. I don't go over shoulder length any more either. I never blow dry or curl my hair because I get too hot and sweaty, but it has enough curl and more body with/ut layers that it doesn't seem to need it anyway. I mean it's not stylish but it looks neat now and not too flat or straight.

I use the wash out coloring to cover the gray and really need to do it more often. It looks a lot better when I do this, but I am kind of lazy about it - will definitely do it this weekend though.

I hope hair isn't important. I know I've cried a lot about it. My hair has always been extremely thin and now it's quite on it's way to balding. It always looks limp and greasy and just disgusting. I hate short hair but decided maybe that would be best. Now I have semi-short ugly hair that still looks thin and greasy. Hair dressers are terrified to color it b/c it's so thin and don't want anymore to fall out. I had my first gray hair at 21 and they're all over my head now. No hair cut looks good on me. Always looks gross.

I just got my hair cut today
and I love it! It feels so fresh and new. :D

I've always loved short hair on me and
it's a great summer cut. And if my hair
feels even a LITTLE greasy or doesn't
feel right to me, it can give me such a
lack of self confidence.

The picture on the left is my new haircut
that I got for myself for losing ALMOST
20lbs. :)

Ooh! It looks so cute! I wish I had the guts to cut my hair short.
