So Mad; Walmart Wouldn't Sell Me A Shirt

  • I don't mean they refused to let me buy a shirt, just not the particular shirt I wanted. I needed a sturdy, preferably long-sleeved button down shirt for work.(Still do.) Think chambray work shirt to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

I didn't try the misses department because I knew everything there would be too big. (I'm five one, 115 pounds.) The junior's department only had tanks, tees, tunics and dressy blouses. Same with the girls department.

I finally found something close to what I wanted in the boy's department, a light blue oxford cloth button down. But when I took it to the register it wouldn't ring up. The clerk called a manager who then told me they couldn't sell me the shirt because it was being recalled by the company that made it.I said somebody better get busy because there were a lot of them on the racks.

I never heard of a shirt being recalled. The clerk and manager wouldn't, or possibly, couldn't, tell me why.

I left the store miffed and shirtless.

Sheesh. It's starting to get a little warm for flannels.
  • My best guess is that the recall is due to a higher than allowed naphthalene content (usually I've seen recalls in regard to children's clothing - which in this case, it would fall under).
  • Hmm. Strange.
  • They have no control over the recalls. They just have to follow the orders. I used to work there as a cashier to help pay for college. They recall anything you could think of at times. It won't show up until it's rung, usually.

There were some beans I can remember being recalled. One mom got angry because a toy was recalled due to paint on it. She wanted it for her kid anyway...

I'm not sure why the shirts weren't pulled off the sales floor yet. For some reason I noticed it takes a while.
  • What really gets to me is that the shirt I couldn't buy at Walmart is apparently the only shirt in any store within a twenty mile radius that came close to being what I needed. I checked the websites for every big department store and every smaller clothing store in the area and came up with nothing.

This is beyond frustrating. Why is it so difficult to find a simple shirt in a size that won't hang on me like a nightgown?
