Flattering Swimsuit suggestions?

I need a new swimsuit for this summer, and was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions of brands they prefer. I did just read about Miracle Suit, has anyone tried one of these? I'm looking for a one-piece, for some reason they look better on me than tankinis.

Here is a link to the miracle suit I'm considering:

I would rather order it online... but I should probably just go try it on in the store. Sigh. Also, I realize it is expensive, but I host many pool parties during the summer so I would be wearing it just about every weekend.

have you tried Ester Williams swimsuits? I like malliot al a 1950's myself. I really hate the ones that has a skirt.

Shytowngal 04-24-2010 05:35 PM

I have never heard of Ester Williams, I just took a look and she has some fabulous suits. Thanks for the recomendation Eroica!

I tried on a "miracle suit" and failed to see a miracle, BUT it felt very good. I would spend the money if I found one I liked.

Aclai4067 04-25-2010 07:39 PM

I agree that the miracle suit didn't look too miraculous on me, and the price! I just wear speedo for swimming laps, and for casual swimming I got a swimdress from Lane Bryant. I find the swimdresses don't look nearly as grannyish as skirted swim suits and do a much better job of covering the lower-belly hang.

I go right to Speedo.com and just get another ultraback in another color.

I'd gotten swim dresses before and I find the fabric floating around me annoying and when I got out sticking to me annoying.

So I use Speedo for both casual swim and laps.

Sometimes I think about the junonia.com ones, but Speedo is tried and true for me.

I got one at Torrid last year that was really cute, a tankini and I thought was very flattering. Still using it htis year cause it's still in great condition.

Raichu 04-26-2010 05:56 AM

Wow, those Torrid suits are adorable! I'm ordering the black & red paisley/plaid with black cinch bottoms right now! What a great suggestion :D

I found a couple of great suits on Landsend. Not sure how much they have left, but you can find some fantastic bargains in their overstocks. I bought one that fits me now and another ($17 total for both pieces of a tankini) that will fit at the end of the summer.

I know who I won't recommend: Athleta.

Way too low-cut and too tight. Cheapish fabric. and even the long torso size is a smidge too short (for me).

AnnieDrews 04-26-2010 12:48 PM

For me, the most flattering suit is a one piece with a halter top. The halter lifts the bust (at age 48, it is going downhill fast). I have also been wearing a swimdress type (with a halter), but hope to be able to buy something a little more revealing after getting to goal. But I'll probably have to still stick with the halter top.

I have never heard of swimdresses before, but I am going to try one to cover my always-fatty upper inner thighs (even when I was *thin* they were flabby/fatty). I found a sporty looking one at shape F/X that I think I will try. Wish me luck!

yoyoma, Thank you! I'm obsessed with the styles and prices at shapefx! I'm not into swim dresses but I think I'm going to order this one:

Desiderata 04-29-2010 10:55 PM

yoyoma, I own that swimdress! I bought in brown a couple years ago. It provides great coverage for your upper thighs. I still wear it and love it, but one caveat -- unless they've improved the zipper they use, it has a nasty tendency to unzip itself while you're swimming. :)

I've never flashed anyone yet, but I usually have to keep tugging at it while I'm in the pool. Cracks my husband up (he doesn't complain, either. ;))

I ADORE that swim dress! Very james bond girl. I'm not in the market for a swim suit yet, wanna see if I can tone up a bit more before committing but I'm gonna save that link!!

I've only heard amazing things about the Esther Williams one piece sheath suit. I got mine in the mail but i haven't tried it on yet because I'm still at school and it went to my home address. I seriously looked at tons of websites for reviews on it and the only bad thing I saw was that people didn't know how to use the size chart and ordered the wrong size. Even though it is expensive I saw many comments that said it was very durable and well made, also everyone said it flatters their body type no matter whether they are small on top, small on bottom, have no waist, etc.

I can't wait to try mine on!

chubbybride2b 05-16-2010 08:04 PM

i have found the most AMAZING one piece suit, its old hollywood glamour which makes it amazing, and comfortable and being that its made my the famous swimmer ester williams makes me feel even sexier wearing it! you can order it from leisure for women. i like the one piece halter that comes in sizes 4-26 this website also offers the best price for this suite, another website sells the same suite for $80 plus! here it is sold for around $64 if i remember right. good luck! :D

Heather26 05-16-2010 08:16 PM

Does anyone know if the Esther Williams suits work well for someone with a large bust? I love the look of the suit, but not sure if it would work for a large bust.

aliquot 05-16-2010 08:40 PM

Heather - I saw a number of reviews from girls with DDs up top and they loved it. There is no underwire, but there are foam cups and elastic just underneith the bust for a bit of support. I also heard that there is some light boning on the sides of the bust area.

Now that I am at a normal BMI, I have discovered the perfect swimsuit for me. I have a small bust (34 A), thick waist (32") and average? hips (37"). I have learned that a bikini that is small on top and has more coverage on bottom is ideal. My thick waist looks ok in a bikini because the attention is drawn to my chest and my bottom.

I never wore bikinis before and had no idea that they are quite forgiving even if someone has belly fat. Although I admit I try to suck in my abdomen, but I did that with a one piece.

My only problem is that bikinis are terrible for swimming in the ocean. The waves peel off my top. :D

spaghetticat 05-23-2010 03:11 PM

I am considering a miricle suit from lane bryant because they have a sale of 40% off until tomorrow :P

eyks 05-23-2010 04:22 PM

They are a little pricey, but I'm sure they can work wonders...

Spanx just came out with a swim suit line!

I'm itching to try one on.
