I like makeup, I don't tend to use much, except when I'm going out for dinner with my sweetie. For regular outings with friends/family, to the store and the like, I wear a little mascara, lash blast luxe in Black Cabernet (845) by cover girl is my favorite. When I'm going out in the evenings I wear a red lipstick, in the day usually just chapstick or something similar. The most important make up product/beauty product of all for me is moisturizer, I get so dry around the edges of the nose and lips if I don't use it.

For me it's liquid eyeliner. I'm blessed to be ambidextrous, so I can put it on with either hand, depending on which eye I'm dressing up.
Since I'm in my mid-40's now, I have begun to tone down my previous makeup style. Colors are less bold, eyeliner is less dark, and I'm more careful to blend. Nothing looks more clownish (except maybe a clown) than an overly made-up middle-aged woman. I keep thinking of Mimi from the Drew Carey show... I've also switched from a cool palette to a warm one, and from frosts to mattes. Shimmery bubble-gum pink looks better on teens and twentys, IMO. I'll take the rusts and terra cottas. |
Lovebirdsflying, I'm exactly 20 (look about 14) and I had to laugh at your post because I already use exclusively rusts and terra cottas. I do use fairly bold eyeliner, but I think the 'natural look' is always in style... a nice face of matte foundation, a neutral lipcolor, and a swipe of liquid eyeliner (I have black hair, which makes it pretty subtle) and mascara, and I'm out the door in five minutes. A full face of makeup is a daily ritual for me, but it honestly takes less time than coordinating an outfit. Let's not even get into hair -- I have been known to leave the house with perfect makeup and hair in a messy bun. :)

Lackadaisy - have any tips for liquid eyeliner on the upper lids? I love the look, but am just NOT coordinated enough to pull it off without scribbling it all over my eyes!

I love makeup too!
I have a collection of eyeshadows and loose powders. I'm a huge fan of mineral makeup, and I've found that moisturizer and the right brushes are insanely important. I LOVE eyeliner, I've been using it since high school and I've tried all sorts. I really dislike pencil eyeliners. Liquids are OK, but I find it to be too harsh on me unless I soften it with the eyeshadow. I found my perfect eyeliner in the form of a gel liner, the ones that come in a small container with a liner. I use a small, thin angled brush to put on the liner, and it's been really amazing, no more tugging on my skin and I've been getting the perfect shape with it. The one that is really good that I bought was actually from coastal scents, it was either that or the bobby brown and I really didn't want to spend that much. I love using eyeshadow under the eyes too. I discovered the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer and it's been AMAZING! keeps eyeshadows and everything IN PLACE! It is kinda pricey ($16), but I bought mine off of ebay for less. I love natural looks, but if I want to have fun, I always play up my eyes and keep everything else nuetral. |

I absolutely love make up too! :) I just have such a blast looking through the make up aisles and I could spend hours in MAC!
