Is There a Hair Stylist in the House?

  • Okay, here's my issue(s).

My hair is naturally curly and frizzy. The front/top is thin. I have a layered bob type haircut. My question is does anyone have any cheap and easy tips for making my hair not frizzy and the style flattering? I flat iron usually but I have such trouble doing the back of my hair. I just don't want to look like Mr. Kotter anymore
  • I dont use a flat iron but I use Kenra Straightening serum.Works for me.
  • Thank you, harrismm. I will try to get some to check out .
  • Thought it might also help to show a couple pictures of my nappy head. I haven't done anything to it but comb it in these pictures though you can't even tell it is combed

  • Our hair is similar. I also use a smoothing serum (can't recall brand right now but there are lots of good ones out there). Here is another trick my stylist taught me--maybe you know it but I didn't. When your blow drying your hair, after the last pass use the cool air setting. She said it sets the shape and acts like a curling iron--making the style set and smooth. It's difficult to manage for me right now--just started this week--but it's getting easier!

Not that you asked for my opinion but I think you have enough body to just do a scrunch and low diffused blow dry to take advantage of that beautiful curl if you ever want an 'easy day'.
  • Thank you. I will definitely be trying these out.

Can you explain to me how I should blow dry my hair? Sorry, it may be simple for most but not for me . I need explicit directions
  • My hair looks almost exactly like yours, only longer. If I blow it out straight and use my flat iron, here's what I do:

Section it off and pin it up, then take a round brush to the section I'm drying. Always point the dryer towards the floor, never directly at the hair - it'll leave it less frizzy and poofy. Dry a section at a time, and don't leave the dryer or flat iron in one spot, it could burn your hair. Then I flat iron only the top layer and around my face. I rarely use a straightening serum, but ALWAYS use a heat spray so I do a bit less damage. Follow it up with a blast of cool air, which helps "seal" the hair. That way the first bit of humidity doesn't turn me into a poofball again.

99% of the time though, I put a bit of shine serum in, and let my hair air dry. The serum helps control frizz, and helps define some of my less-defined curls.

Oh yes, and I never ever brush my hair, ever. Brushing my curls leads to huge frizz issues. I comb it with a wide-tooth comb when it's wet, other than that I leave it alone.
  • Thank you so much!!!
  • What are you using to wash it?

The entire condition of my hair changed after I switched to using a different product. It's pricey, though. But seriously - the difference in manageability is just ridiculous. Not to mention, if you color your hair, the color stays SO much better (less fading, even in summer). I was never a person for expensive haircare...never saw the point. Now I'm convinced.

The product is Cleansing Conditioner, brand is Wen by Chaz Dean.

I find this sorta amusing since I use to take calls for orders for Chaz Dean products .

I have not tried it but I will look into it. Currently, I am using None of Your Frizz by Herbal Essence :|

    Thanks so much!
