Body Shapers

What body shaper do you prefer and why?

I am looking into getting me a couple and I would like some opinions from those that are or have worn them :)

I know I am swimming against the tide, but I prefer flexees over spanx. Spanx doesn't seem to do enough to hold in my lower abs and my ribbed flexees do better. I'm still experimenting with brands so if anyone has particular suggestions for lower abs, I'd love to hear them.

i wear something like this. I love it and wear it under almost everything.

Good thread! I need something like this as well. But I have no idea what to get. I looked last week, and there are so many different types out there.

Per bodysuit...I looked at some with the built-in bra, but is it enough support? It almost looked like it would squash you instead of enhancing. And, my boobs are about the nicest part of my body at this moment. ;)

Are they comfortable? I have a formal event coming up on Friday, and I need something to do under the dress to keep things in place.

Thanks!

Onederchic 03-23-2009 04:54 PM

Yeah I want something that is gonna hold it in and not squish it up. I have a half girdle type thing where it is suppose to do from the waist down but it makes my belly fat squish up out of the top of it so needless to say, I don't wear it.

I (pretty much) love my SassyBax

Pretty much. The good news, no bra lines on the back and it really does hold the sides and midriff in.....goes down below the waist, holds that in, too, and doesn't push it up anywhere! No muffin top. And it is waaaaaaaaaaayyy comfy.

The bad news is, the sizes are s, m, l and no variation in cup size...so it does kinds smush the girls.

The trade off is, it holds me in so much that I still have a "shape"..it will have to do until I get these $%^!@^^%^ 15 pounds of back fat off.

CountingDown 03-23-2009 09:19 PM

I love the Bali ones. I still wear them, even at goal. They are relatively inexpensive, comfortable and come in a variety of sizes.
Probably my favorite at my highest weight was this one.

Thanks!

I have a maidenform one. I wore it before I lost the weight, size xl and I just wore it again last weekend. got the job done :)
Mine is thongish panties continuing up with fabric to cover belly and back rolls.

Thank you :)

I'm going to try shopping for one on Wednesday...I'll let you know what I find out...:) Thank you ladies!

Onederchic 03-24-2009 05:36 AM

Thank you, Suzy!!

Suzyszoo 03-26-2009 12:55 PM

Tried shopping for one yesterday...

No luck. I didn't find any that were comfortable or fit properly out here in my area. I liked the look of the Dr. Rey shapewear, but it did NOT fit on. I'm wondering...which is the best? Based on cup size, or on body size?

I'm going into Anchorage tomorrow, I've got far more choices as far as department stores there, I'm hoping to find one then.

I just use regular panty hose to suck me in.

Suzyszoo 03-26-2009 01:37 PM

I need something a little more supportive than just the control top panty hose. The dress I'm wearing is satin, and ANY little bulge or "muffin top" or panty line will show through. I just want a smooth figure, not something that bisects me at the waist.

Onederchic 04-01-2009 07:36 AM

I agree Suzy, I need something that is comfortable and extra supportive in holding it all in, hehe.

Suzyszoo 04-01-2009 03:26 PM

I tried...and tried and tried to find something one piece. I didn't. Nothing that fit up top, fit well below. And then the snaps in the "crotchular" region...what a huge pain. And they have bodyshapers that come down the thighs, which also is helpful, but then trying to get it off to use the bathroom...

What I ended up doing was finding a really high waisted girdle thingie, with nice support in the belly and thighs. It came up under my bra, and I put my bra over it, and was fairly happy. Not overly happy, I'd still like a one piece.

But it worked for the evening.

- side note. There was a gal at the fundraiser, musta spent big bucks on this gorgeous white satin dress, and NO supportive undergarments on. She was thin, but had buldges and jiggles and it looked terrible. Made me realize, supportive undergarments ARE necessary, even for thinner people... I'm going to keep searching for one.

Onederchic 04-01-2009 05:06 PM

I too am continuing the search. It just is all so frustrating trying to find something that works full body.

Suzyszoo 04-01-2009 05:13 PM

What I hate, is the trying them ON part! AACK! Stripped down, in a dressing room, trying to wiggle into something that's suppose to be tight on...it's depressing! They could at least turn down the lighting...;) Sizes aren't the same, some have lace and pretties, it's almost too much.

I think we learned from "Steel Magnolias" that wearing proper undergarments is very much a sign of a proper upbringing. ;)

starfishkitty 05-29-2009 02:46 AM

I used to use these... my preferred type was the type that was like normal underwear with a very high waist that came under your bra. I liked the way that it held me in and gave me support... but at the same time.... I always felt hot, stuffy, and icky. And it was always kind of embarrassing when a guy gave me a hug then a weird look afterwards. lol!

However, what finally and completely put me off of them was the reoccurring yeast infections I was getting. I am more prone to them for several reasons (immunity problems), but my doc said that wearing those definitely made it happen much more often than it would have normal. That fabric just doesn't breathe! And since we're only supposed to be wearing cotton undies?? Yeaaaah... not that great. :nono:

I thought I was the only one who felt this way!!!

Flexees seem to have more "compression" - I don't think Spanx is confining enough for the roll issues I have.

I usually use this one: http://www.maidenform.com/catalog/pr...ntCategoryId=3

It comes up high enough to be tucked into my bra and hide all my midsection rolls.

Somni 05-29-2009 02:04 PM

I like wearing the high waisted ones as was linked above - I have too much trouble dealing with the full body ones. I'm short and gain weight pretty much everywhere besides my chest so it's a logistics mess with chest size and torso length! The high waisted are nice since it goes up to the bra so no bulge hanging around above the elastic, and less chance of riding down.

I recently went into a little shop that specialized in bras in every imaginable size, shapewear, etc, for stuff to wear with my wedding dress and got a really nice one that was made by a brand called Rago. I'm really happy with it. ragoshapewear dot com (can't link website, I haven't posted enough yet!) is their website, though they only show their products, not actually sell them through their site.

Curvation

Walmart carries a line that was sponsored by Queen Latifah. Curvation. I like it a lot, You can wear you own bra under it comfortably.

Also Like Flexees at JCPenney. A lot more expensive, though. I have bought a few pieces on sale while using coupons.

DCHound 06-03-2009 04:56 PM

This is very much a "your mileage may vary" response. :)

I first lost a lot of weight in 1999. I went from a 28 to a 16. I had several bodyshapers I wore, particularly in dresses. I was really unhappy with my midsection. It got smaller, but I still had a very noticeable roll around my waist. The bodyshapers were uncomfortable but I thought a necessary evil.

This time around, after regaining and now losing again, I am eating very differently. No processed food at all, no diet drinks. All healthy, natural whole foods (I also don't do carbs ~ Atkins induction).

I have found that, with a very different eating style, I am losing weight from my waist faster than anywhere else. I'm over 260 lbs in a size 18 and I DO NOT need a girdle anymore. My waist is very small. Yes there's jiggle but it's shrinking and will be pretty much gone soon.

Is it the no carbs? Maybe. The no processed food? Maybe. The no diet drinks? That's what I'm hanging my $$ on. I drank them by the bushel last time, and my waist certainly got smaller, but not that much smaller.

I'm not recommending anyone cut carbs, that's a personal decision. But I do think eliminating processed food and particularly diet sodas is what's doing this for me this time. Again, your mileage may vary! :) But life without a girdle is FUN.
