bathing suit shopping

  • Ok, so its that time of year and I need a new bathing suit(or baby soup as my middle child use to say) I live in Florida near the cost and my neighborhood has a pool and I have children so swimming is a must...lol Anyways, I don't know what size to get. I am kind a in between a 12 and 10, I have lost almost 30lbs with more to go. Large bathing suits say 12/14 and mediums say 8/10 and I dont think I am either of those sizes. Do I go with the smaller and hope i get in to it in the next 4 weeks or when it will be ready to wear? If I wait too long to buy one, I am not going to find one. Im picky and only wear tankinis with either skirts or board shorts
  • Well If I was in your situation I would get the one that fits me right now.. but I would also buy the same in smaller size so that in mid summer when the other is too big. I still have a bathing suit that I like. So good luck bathing suit shopping I know how hard it is to make that purchase.
  • I would love to buy 2, but bathing suits cost way too much for that
  • I'm not sure sizing is quite as critical in a stretchy unconstructed bathing suit compared to, say, fitted pants in a woven fabric. I think if you got one that fits now, or is no more than a smidge too small, you'll be fine after some weight loss and wouldn't need a new suit until you'd skipped a size.
  • Last summer when I was losing the last of my weight I was still in my size 12 suits as well as my (many years old) size 6 and 8 suit.

Whatever you buy, all will be ok. (I think )
  • Agreed - I wore the same suit for years and I gained prob close to 30+ since I first bought them. I think the stretchy material will give out.

I would buy the suit that fits now so you don't have the added pressure of the stress of fitting into a smaller suit.
  • I find that I need to go a size smaller in swim suits otherwise they stretch out and look funny.

If you're between a 10 and 12, you could probably fit the 8/10, but it really depends a lot on your bust size and how much support you need in that area.
