Help for my I-Don't-Know-What Shape

Anyone else have a problem with huge hips/butt/stomach and upper thighs, but a small waist? It's almost impossible for me to find pants to fit me without going to a complete elastic waist. I can find ONE brand of jeans that fit me, and they are hard to find around here. They are Levi with side elastic. I wear them so much it isn't funny. But dress pants are impossible. By the time I get them to fit my hips/butt and thighs, the waist is gaping huge. And sometimes the crotch hangs down like 2-3 inches. >< My waist is literally 20 inches smaller than my hips/butt area. Anyone have any suggestions that doesn't involve having to get pants altered?

Hi. We were just having a discussion about this in the Weight and Resistance section too. I have the pear shaped dilemma as well. Hip and thighs need a pant that is much larger than the waist requires. I know that some of my girlfriends wear pants that ride just at the hips to solve this problem but I never felt physically comfortable in those either.
Throughout my weight loss I have found that the pants that fit me correctly are Liz Claiborne pants/jeans in both the waist and the hips. They are a little pricey but I wear them often. I'm willing to spend a little more for an item I will probably wear most days of the week. ;)

Don't give up. Your perfect pair is out there. Somewhere. It can be maddening though. Often times I stand in the dressing room muttering something like "I would like to meet the woman these are supposed to fit."

A lot of brands are coming out with different cuts to suits apples and pears. But to be honest, I can't imagine that any of them accommodate a 20" difference. I really think the only answer you'll have is to buy what fits in the butt and hips, and have the waist altered.

*laughs* Yah, I know that feeling. Years ago I was in a chatroom and some girl was complaining about not being able to find clothes to fit her. She said all she could find were "fat people clothes." A couple people got on her for being mean and I was think "Uh... What planet are YOU shopping on?" No offense to thinner people. Maybe it depends on locale. I'm hoping as I lose weight that it goes from my hips first, and they are huge. I know it won't likely happen, but I can hope.
