Lane Bryant Swimsuits
100 + for a swim suit, that I shouldn't even be wearing. I have no swim suit, not that I am some avid swimmer, but I would like to have one in slight chance I do something summery this summer, or even to wear under a tank top this summer. I would like to get a size L/XL, but all I see everywhere is bikinnis and skirted suits. Well I don't care that I am obese, I am not wearing a darn skirted suit! LOL, but I am certainly not wearing a bikinni.
Any suggestions where they sell suits? |
This comes in XL and is pretty cute: http://www.overstock.com/Clothing/Ce...3/product.html
I have bought one at Target in the past. I recently got one for $5 (it's a simple one piece, purple) at a discount store. Not so supportive in the bust, but fine for sitting in a sauna, whirlpool or doing laps. I may lay out the money for a Lane Bryant swimsuit though, because I want to do aqua aerobics a lot and need more bust support. Also, I have "Real Women Dollars" and there's a buy one get one 50% off, making a 2 piece swimsuit at Lane Bryant $75 before Real Women credits. |
You should try the various department stores online -- Macy's, Penney's, Kohl's, Sears. I know sometimes they have a bigger selection of one piece suits online than they have in the stores.

I found a nice "basic" one-piece that's actually not too bad at Lands End. I just went on vacation to Costa Rica w/ my husband's family -- I must've ordered/tried on 20+ suits. Lots of return postage and frustration later, I picked a Lands End off the rack at a local Sears and bought it without trying it on. Put it on the first day on vacation and it was better than all the others I'd tried on, lol. Go figure! :dizzy:

Target swim suits (free shipping on $50+ purchases too): http://www.target.com/gp/search/601-...x_1_1&x=15&y=7

Target has really nice ones..same with Torrid, although they are pretty pricey. I bought a really cute tankini from there last year.
|
SoulBliss- wow that one at overstock IS really cute, I agree. I wasn't thinking two pc, but wow, that's nice! Draw the attention to my chest and sholders and forget about the rest, that should work!

For "functional" ones the Danksin one worked well for me and is $60 but they often have online coupons. Also Manufactures like TYR and Speedo usually have plus sizes. I have a 40 percent off code for TYR if you want it.
LB suits are WAY over priced and the quality for that price sucks. LB angers me that they think they can charge that much because they think we have nowhere else to go. |
What is "TYR"? I'm interested too, if the code is good for more than one person and they have bigger sizes.
|
I just did a search for TYR, they look good, like they are actually made for swimmers!!!

I lucked into the code because it was sent to me because of my Triathlon entry. I believe it's also good for friends and family (which is you guys right?) :) The only thing to be cautious of is I find their sizing on the small size... so in general I would go a size up. Also some of their suits have no "top" support so make sure you look to see which ones have it. The "Maxback" ones cover enough of the back for us larger girls. Not all styles come in Plus sizes but quite a few do. The code is LTFNYTRI03 good until June12. It's good for free shipping too. Note that although it looks like it charges you shipping it's deducted from the total already. |
Thanks, I just need to look around more I guess. The size chart I looked at stopped at 40/XL.
I hope that Vixjean finds one there, at Target or gets that cute Overstock.com one! |
Some styles I think go upto a size 46 (Size 20ish) I wear a size 42 and I'm between a 14/16 currently.
|
Check Junonia, they're kind of pricey but I like their styles
|
SoulBliss-Hey my mom is very TOP heavy and she gets hers from LB FOR her water aerobics. And she works very intense workouts. She swears by them, I just think they are overpriced, but as a tool for workouts, it could be justifiable.

This is the one I like, but there is NO way I am spending that much. I haven't went clothes shopping in YEARS, (except to buy the same clothes in Large, then XL, then I just stopped because I wasn't a plus size, and I was too big for the xl's but too short, ahhhh...LOL! and what is with the boobs, do they have to be that low! |
Whoa!!! $142.00? Thats practically an evening gown!!!!!!!!!!
It *is* cute though. |
hahaha, i like the part about the SHELF bra for extra support, when has a SHELF bra added ANY support?
|
For that much they should have a person that walks around and carries them for me, LOL!
|
I think LB marks them up so much so that they can mark them on "Sale" in the summer time.
|
If you are getting a suit for water aerobics, make sure you get one that will hold up in the chlorine!!!!!!!!! I know Junonia has several styles for that. If it isn't the right material, the crotch of your suit will be down between your knees and ankles sometime when you get out of the pool. I am talking from experience here!!!

I am going to absolutely, 100% recommend the suits from "It Figures" sold over at the QVC website.
They have many styles, and some are going to be styled for older women, but there are PLENTY there for younger ladies as well. They are in both misses and plus sizes. Many of them are tanktini styled-and are really, really cute. The tanktini styles have the cute top, and then they either have a skirt OR shorts bottom. Not the skin tight boy shorts, but like real shorts, with a built in panty underneath. They are FABULOUS, and many of them are super cute. The tanktini 2 piece skirted ones do NOT look like "old lady" skirted suits. |

142 dollars is more than half a car payment or 1/4 of a house payment. That is crazy lol. |
$142 for a swimsuit IS crazy.
I *can* see some of the reasons for them being expensive ($50-$100 for a suit) but not THAT expensive. Good quality lycra is a pretty expensive fabric, and sewing a swimsuit is gads more difficult than sewing, say, a t-shirt or pair of sweatpants. I can go get many fabrics for $3-$7 a yard, but lycra blends are usually $10 and up a yard... |
In general, I have a problem spending over $20 for any single piece of clothing. bathing suits are my one exception. I'm perfectly willing to spend $100 or even slightly over $100 for a bathing suit. Since you are so exposed, if it is something you will wear for a while, it is worth it. That said, I bought a miracle suit from Eddie Bauer for about $100. I loved it. Unfortunately, I grew out of it and I was so sad. I recently spent $20 on a swimsuit at Costco which I really like but I consider it a temporary swimsuit.

I saw those 2 piece swim suits layne bryant came out with this year and that would be the only 2 piece this fatty would ever consider. I haven't owned a swimsuit in years. But when I saw the $120 price tag I put it back down.
I found out one year when I got a gift card to layne bryant that they also own Fashion Bug and you can use the gift card there also. A month ago we were out shopping and walked past Fashion Bug and the same swimsuits were 50% off that layne bryant had. I was able to get a nice 2 piece for $40. |
