I found Pure Minerals on ebay ... what I think is a good deal but ... shimmer, glimmer, metallic ... I'll have tinfoil eye lids!

BTW ... I would either have the hair removed professionally or I'd use a cream hair remover for faces.

Leesha Peesha 08-29-2007 09:05 AM

i personally LOVE MAC makeup. I am a total makeup junkie. Bare Minerals is a great foundation. But my skin tone changes a lot during the year (from pale to paler.. heh) So I usually have a hard time finding foundation that matches my skin tone. Its either too pink or too yellow.
I love Lancome foundation, and also MaryKay foundation. Those two match my skin perfectly. Now. Sephora (my favorite place in the WORLD) has a great selection of many different cosmetics.
on a different note, i start cosmetology school in 2 weeks =)
**suuuper excited**

Greensmoke and satin taupe sound wonderful. Shiny? Matte? I'm too old for glimmer.

Satin Taupe is not really glimmer-y. It's classified as a "frost" on MAC's website but it doesn't have to much shine. I think you will really like it! Greensmoke may be a little too glimmer-y for you, as it's a "lustre" finish. You might also want to check out Twinks, it's a "veluxe pearl" finish and not too shiny, though it contains a little more red than Satin Taupe.

This thread has my name all over it! :)
I went to college for cosmetology and I get the 40% Mac pro discount. I'm actually going after work for some more stuff. I'm addicited♥

StillTryin 09-06-2007 04:24 PM

I just ordered the everyday minerals free trial...I mean hey for $3.97 shipping it cant be a bad deal! I want to get away from the liquid foundation then powder, ect...that gets old. I would love to have a nice "finished" look with minimal effort.

Lafayette 09-06-2007 04:42 PM

Does anyone else have a Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals store in their area? I have Ulta, Sephora and Bare Escentuals. I'm a lucky girl...

I bought my original Bare Minerals starter kit at Sephora and later found out I would have gotten much more for the same price from the Bare Minerals store. Their $75 (?) kit even includes a powder compact to keep mineral veil in your purse for touch-ups. They also did a much better job of matching my skintone, which OF COURSE is the palest possible shade and doesn't come in the starter kits.

I bought the Bare Escentual's Park Avenue Princess kit from Sephora and the "drama" shade of eyeshadow is awesome. I have hazel eyes and this shadow can be lighter or darker depending on how much you apply. It's a blend of charcoal, chocolate, purple and copper (a little bit of everything)that looks great with green/hazel eyes. The "glee" shade of blush not only looks great on my hyper-fair skin but also on my friends who actually have melanin.

My latest love is Neutogena lash tint. Even though the sun has no effect on my skin, it bleaches out my eyelashes. This doesn't clump like mascara and it cleans off easily. No more morning after raccoon eyes!

Origins' sheer lip gloss is awesome, too. It's peppermint flavored and scented, which is an excellent emergency coffee breath cure.

Ooh, now I want to go shopping!!!

FitMomEB 09-06-2007 05:00 PM

I use Bare Minerals for the base and coverage, and a mix of other brands for the rest. I really like the Maybelline Mascara and the L'Oreal eyeliner. For my lips I use almost exclusively organic lip glosses, sometimes tinted, sometimes clear.

THANKS to those who discussed Everyday Minerals and their free sample kit! I love anything free and just ordered mine!

I've never tried any mineral line and I'm tired of the liquid stuff - it seems at my advancing age (52) that the liquid stuff brings the wrinkles OUT, not covers them!

Thanks Again!
Lori

vealcalf2000 09-06-2007 06:49 PM

This is for StillTryin and Momto5sweeties I'm so glad you checked out Everyday Minerals. I was on a sample site a few months ago and someone just raved about this mineral makeup so I had to order the Free Sample Kit because the 3.97 shipping can't be beat! It's cheaper than Bare Minerals but still high end. I just love EM and am getting ready to place a new order--hope you both enjoy!

valpal23 09-07-2007 12:21 AM

The great thing about EM is that they ship their free starter kit to Canada too! And when anonther order I made went missing in transit they replaced it and shipped it priority express for free (I only paid standard ground post). I've been impresssed :)

StillTryin 09-07-2007 11:08 AM

VealCalf, I am excited to get the starter kit, I am just so tired of liquid makeup, and then powder, ect...that routine gets tiring, especially in the summer, when it is hot I tend to not even wear makeup because I get the "greasy" face look. I am super excited to give this a try!

mom2fivesweeties 09-07-2007 02:20 PM

Hi VealCalf,
I'm really looking forward to receiving my free sample kit! Like StillTryin, I hate the liquid make-up in the horrible heat of the summer. I'll let you know how it works out!

I got my Bare Escentuals from Kim's ebay contact today. I got foundation and blush. I played with them a bit and so far am very impressed. They go on very nicely and feel good.

Rhighlan86 09-11-2007 08:35 PM

hi

Any advice for someone completely pale? I've tried everything at Walmart, even the true match that says it matches 97% of people and I got nothing. Right now I have Clinique and it actually is light enough (the only product that they have that's light enough), but it is very thick. It's a matte product. I'm just looking for something light and not so heavy....any suggestions?

Hi Susan,

How are you liking those Bare Minerals? You mentioned you got foundation & blush....which colors did you get? I use the medium beige foundation & the Glee blush. I also use True, Warmth and Clear Radiance as blush.

Let us know how you like it. I'm anxious to hear!!!

Hi I'm very fair too! I mentioned Everyday Minerals on this thread because it's what I use. I mentioned you can get a free sample kit from them and only have to pay 3.97 for shipping. They have all of their colors divided up between cool tones, neutral, warm etc plus they have intensive coverage, matte, semi-matte, and intensive glow. They're not cakey and you can pick 3 different foundations types in the sample kit so it really helps in figuring out what one is right for you. In addition to the 3 foundations you get a blush and a concealer. Might want to check them out I've been very pleased w/their product.

srmb60 09-12-2007 12:22 PM

I got Fairly Light foundation and Thistle blush. Very natural looking.
I am pretty fair but thought the next lighter one would be too pale. It might be good for Rhighlan86???

StillTryin 09-12-2007 03:56 PM

I received my everyday minerals in like 3 days!!! OMG what a great thing! Usually when it is a "free" sample they take weeks! I have used it for 2 days now and I am so close to being hooked!!!!! I am liking it a LOT

Thanks Vealcalf!

srmb60 09-12-2007 04:27 PM

Let me just go check a mirror. I had a fabulous nap!
It still looks good. No cracky crinkles around my eyes!!!

Oh Great I'm so glad you like it! There's also no limit on how many sample kits you get. Lately I've been buying one item and adding the sample kit on to my order. LOL, I'm just so poor I can't splurge until DH is done w/school, that'll be in a few weeks and I tell ya after that I'm buying one of the big kits!!!!!

srmb60 09-16-2007 08:28 AM

We went to Prime Outlets at Birch Run in Michigan this weekend and I did not step foot in a cosmetics store ... which is a good thing. While we were away, I got my Avon order, a couple of things from Mary Kay and I won a couple of Smash Box shadows on ebay. I also have one of those sample kits coming ... Oi! what fun!

femmecreole 09-16-2007 12:19 PM

What a great thread.
I used to use bare minerals till my daughter turned me on to MAC studio fix. Love it. Put it on with the pad, then use a brush over that. I also love their under eye concealer.

One thing I could not live without is GREEN CREAM..a great wrinkle killer. I sent some to my daughter who gets occasional break outs and she just loves it too.

GeorgiePorgie 09-16-2007 12:26 PM

I live in a M.A.C. world! Everything in my makeup bag is M.A.C. and I love it all!

Tamara 07-22-2008 02:31 PM

Bumping this thread for other Makeup Addicts!!!

Another makeup addict here. I love the stuff!!! I've used MAC for about 3 years now, and it is still wonderful. Though MAC is pricey, it's great for my complexion. I'm a dark-skinned Black woman and many companies are not great matches for my skintone. Everything MAC offers has worked wonderful on my skin. I LOVE their brushes, eyeshadows, and foundations. Some of my favorite MAC products: Fix+ Spray, Studio Fix powder and liquid foundation, liquid concealer, Plum Dressing eyeshadow, Black Tied eyeshadow, Amber Lights and Bronze eyeshadows, and their strippling and large powder brushes.

Bare Escentuals is a new find, but I love their foundation and primer. I pretty much use BE foundation exclusively now. It's so light, yet provides GREAT coverage. It also lasts the entire day, and is simple to apply.

I hope to order a second BE foundation in the complementary color for my complexion, as well as more stuff from MAC and Sephora. I'm also going to order some EverydayMinerals soon. I believe the bismuth in BE had made me itch; its nothing terrible, but I would love to be itch-free. LOL

Sarah Mac 07-22-2008 03:05 PM

I looooovvveeee Bare Minerals. It is the only make up that hasn't made me break out. It has actually improved my skin 10 fold. It is light enough and coveres beautifully. I could never wear liquid foundation because 1. I am pasty, 2. it would cake, 3. I live in a very hot climate :)

I haven't featured out with other powder foundations because I fear it will not live up to Bare Minerals. I also love their lip plumpers (which a long a time ago I said I would never wear it). Their lip plumpers feel great and feel like mint.

thelish 07-24-2008 09:21 PM

Yeah makeup...I actually went to Sephora tonight :) It was my treat for 20lbs gone for good. I totally swear by Sephora, not only do they have a huge variety but they have a nice knowledgable staff....and you've got to love the no hassle returns and free samples.

Anyway, I am a MAC fan as well. Love the eye shadow, lip glass, blush, eye primer and brushes.

Foundation right now is the Sephora brand powder foundation in a compact. I wanted something quick and easy for summer. Before that I was using MAC.

Mascara I use Stila...cheap and effective :)

As for the mineral makeup I had a lot of problems with it, I tried several different brands including BE and sheercover and had a lot of irritation especially if I would get hot. I've got pretty sensitive skin though.

Skin care wise I love Philosophy! I used to swear by Mary Kay (I was a consultant) but once they moved towards more anti-aging products I started to have problems. I was bummed :(

Rain Dancer 07-24-2008 09:40 PM

I also love mineral makeup. It is the only makeup I have used for seven years and I have no plans to use anything else. :D I admit to being a little addicted to collecting colours. I have more eye colours and blush than I could use in three lifetimes and I still buy more. :o

The only "drugstore" cosmetic I use is Loreal mascara. They make the best mascara, IMO. And the price is good, too.

I used to looove Philosophy. But it just isn't in my budget, right now. *sigh* Purity cleanser is the best cleanser on the face of the Planet. And I miss it, terribly. I have been using St. Ives Elements for cleansing and Neutrogena moisturisers. They are working pretty well. But I really want to go rob a bank so that I can stock up on Philosophy, again.

GradPhase 07-24-2008 10:43 PM

I'm a MAC girl for their foundation and eye liners. My eyes water like crazy and that stuff just doesn't budge. LOVE it. For my mascara and eye shaddow I love Clinique. For everything else, I'm an off-the-shelf girl =)

Ohhh, also have a great primer from Sephora.

zenor77 07-25-2008 12:48 AM

Oh I wish I could wear all the things you ladies are talking about. I swear I'm allergic to everything. Bare Essentials makes me itch like nothing else (it's the bismuth) and I try to avoid certain chemicals as well. So I'm limited as to what I can wear. I have yet to find any good brands. I'd love suggestions! I used to love makeup before I started developing skin problems.

Also, has anyone seen the Skin Deep Database? It's great if you are concerned about the level of toxicity in products. It's at cosmeticsdatabase.com. I've had good luck finding haircare products through their lists that don't aggravate my scalp.

chickybird 07-25-2008 01:25 AM

I'm allergic to darn near every kind of mascara; as a result I've been going and getting my eyelashes dyed at a salon every month and a half. It's only $15, it's lasts 6 weeks, and no allergic reaction. Any one else tried this?

scorpio88 08-01-2008 09:20 AM

My kind of thread. ;) I'm a Professional Airbrush & Makeup Artist, I do weddings, film, television, prom, special effects..you name it. I absolutely love what I do, and I love how creative you can be with makeup application.

I think my new favourite brand has got to be Everyday Minerals. Their brush (flat top) is incredible for $10.00, it buffs in your concealer or foundation great and their mineral foundation is awesome. I use the airbrush foundation for clients unless otherwise requested, but for myself I use minerals. Find it much more breathable compared to liquid or creme.

PhotoChick 08-01-2008 03:18 PM

Add me to the BE group. I looooooove all of their stuff. I don't wear a lot of makeup at all, but when I do, I find that theirs gives me the beset coverage with the least amount of fuss.

.

didjaever 08-01-2008 07:37 PM

I love Bare Escentuals mineral foundation.... I get it from QVC but you can also find it at Sephora. It goes only seamless and feels great....

techwife 08-04-2008 09:29 PM

I don't even know where to find MAC. Any suggestions?

techwife 08-04-2008 09:30 PM

I get the mineral make up from Avon. I really like it, but have never tried BE to know if its on par with that. The daughter of one of my best friends just started selling Avon, so I get an order from her about every other week.

PhotoChick 08-04-2008 09:32 PM

There are independent MAC stores in most large malls. If not, you can also find them in Macy's and other large department stores.

If all else fails, you can go to the MAC website and do a store search:
http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/door/finder.tmpl

.

GradPhase 08-04-2008 11:43 PM

I buy my MAC products from Nordstoms, but only because it's the only major make-up place in Anchorage (that I've been able to find, at least) but I'd bet the website has a link to find one near you :)

I'm not THAT keen on the foundation I have, because it's pretty thick and feels heavy - but it does the job and matches my skin tone perfectly which is hard to find - but I can't say enough good things about the eye liner!

Ambrosia 08-08-2008 10:05 PM

Another Mac girl here! I love most of their makeup. I have to admit Nars has way better blush than Mac. I love studio fix fluid foundation (it makes my skin look flawless) but unfortunately it breaks me out. I'm saving to buy Make Up Forever foundation (after hearing rave reviews about it) to replace the fluid. I prefer powder over liquid foundation since the latter feels "heavy" on my face.

missbrandi808 08-09-2008 12:00 PM

Hi All!

I agree Ambrosia, Nars has great blush. I also use MAC (love it all!) and Make-Up Forever foundations. For a great concealer, Neiman Marcus has a Cle De Peau one. VERY PRICEY, but so worth it-I was skeptical when walking pass the counter and the sales associate jumped out with it, but it was well worth it. I also looooovee make-up brushes. I better stop here, I could go on FOREVER about makeup! :)

scorpio88 08-10-2008 01:05 AM

I am in love with M.A.C.'s pigments. Vanilla to be specific, I probably can go through a full jar of that in less then 6 months, lol! It's great for highlighting the browbone, tear duct area of the eye, and I especially love using it for bridal work as a cheekbone highlighter.

I also really like their eyeshadows, and paints/pots (as a base). The only downfall to M.A.C. products is their price, which for $22.50 (CND) a pigment, can get quite pricy. :(

I actually buy all my M.A.C. I own off of eBay.
