Wednesday
I appear to be marking time rather than putting one foot in front of the other.
Manchester isn't far from here so it's on our minds. |
After a brief blip up I was at 149.8 again today. Hopefully it sticks and I'll stay in the 140's. I doubt I'll get much farther before my vacation mid-June but I'm going to try to get as far as I can.

That said, his interview went well. The first two hours consisted of tests and the remaining was a team interview, which he felt went well. They'll let him know within a week. Wednesday morning, weight remains where it was when I returned from vacation. We're now getting up an hour earlier because our staff wants to work 6-2:30 to fend off the summer heat. DH went to the endocrinologist yesterday about his diabetes. She said the meds he is on seem to be working and she wants to see him in 3 months to reevaluate. In the mean time, she suggested 5-6 days of exercise per week (he's been doing only 2-3) so I'm going to suggest exercise after work for both of us. She also talked about diet, but I'm confident that our diet is well within the guidelines necessary for diabetic health. If in 3 months his sugar is still high (it's around 130-160 these days), she'll probably change the meds. He's currently on the max dosage of both metformin and jenuvia. |
I'm at 157.3, after conscientiously getting to bed earlier than usual. Yes, the talk went fairly well, even though the GVP advancing the slides for me had a slow machine, so the presentation got stuck at certain points. I kept talking.
Birchie, I'm also thinking about Manchester. Why there & why then? These devout extremists sometimes have an irrational hatred of exuberant, pop-music-loving adolescent girls. To me, that's like hating a butterfly. |
Sounds like the interview went well, Allison. I bet he'll get the job! That's interesting and quite helpful that they give good indication about what to wear in the interview on their website.
I'm also thinking a lot about Manchester, Birchie. I'm sure the news there is even more prolific. My niece and nephew live in London (he is 6 and she is 4)-- I emailed my sister-in-law this morning with just some kind thoughts and mentioned that I hope they are able to keep precocious George from seeing/hearing much of the news there. My weight is down .6 of the 1.2 it was up yesterday. Hopefully I can keep going in that direction. Dh comes home tomorrow for about 10 days before another long trip. When he's home, we plan on doing some trip planning and shopping! |
Thank you for the birthday wishes! Had a very nice weekend up north in the wine country with my husband and discovered a fantastic winery that we both loved. Of the 4 cases we brought home, 2 came from Hawthorn Vineyards. We have resisted getting into them so far. :)
I've started my tooth-straightening journey. Similar to the Invisalign system being advertised, the "appliance" is just a formed clear plastic retainer and will be adjusted every 2-3 weeks with resin inserts, and be replaced every few months. The more I wear it, the faster my teeth will move. And since I can only drink cold/room temperature water while wearing it, the last few days have significantly reduced my drive to snack. Plus, my teeth are sore which is certainly a distraction in a masochistically pleasing way. Regardless, I'm back under 160 again. I would like to use this time to develop better habits regarding regular meals. Silver - I am saddened to hear about Manchester. I am also deeply angry. Michele - congratulations on your award! So good to hear librarians being recognized for the incredible work they do! Allison - I've been using GlassDoor quite a bit. That is definitely a neat thing that they had info on what to wear to the interview - that removes one of the off-balance variables. Good luck to DS! |
Thursday morning, down to 155.3. The scale feels more like a Wheel of Fortune than a scientific instrument for measuring something.
Rain, after days of rain, so I'm imagining this is what it's like to live in the Pacific Northwest. Slow traffic, accidents. I'm already irritated before 9 AM by the Greenwich residents who gave me the finger for "blocking the box" because of the traffic backed up on the main street from the school crossing. I'm still reflecting on my conversation with the department head about moving over to his group. It's going to be a challenging job, learning new things, taking on a heavier workload, reminiscent of what it was like a year & a half ago, right after the reorg. But it's a choice I'd be making to get rid of this feeling of being stalled out, working hard but getting no further ahead. There is something of a career path if I move over to that department. |
Progress! I'm down .9 of a pound. I guess since it took almost 3 weeks to gain the weight, it'll take that much to lose it. But any loss is just enough impetus for me to work extra hard.
DH came home yesterday and got on the elliptical. I intend to do the same today (didn't yesterday as I should have--I just didn't have the uumph to do it). |
So, is the job yours if you want it, Saef? I had to chuckle at your Wheel of Fortune reference. Now I'll be thinking that when I get on the scale. This morning the wheel landed up .2!
Also found your Greenwich reference a tad funny. I was actually born in Greenwich (lived there less than a year then moved to Riverside-- neither of which I remember-- later lived in Avon of which I have vague memories). Great job Allison! You will get on the elliptical today! Yesterday I almost wimped out myself. I was planning on kick boxing but my carpal tunnel in my hand plus other aches and pains made me think it wasn't a wise choice. I forced myself to still go to the gym and I did the elliptical while watching a show. Dh comes home tonight and I hope I don't use that as an excuse not to exercise. I like to do hot pilates on Thursday but I don't get home till 6:30. Dh will be home about 5:30-6. Not an excuse! |
Got on the scale two times this morning. Once it read 150.2, once it read 149.2. Oh, scale.
I forced myself to do my workout yesterday even though I spent about 10-15 minutes sitting in the locker room staring at my gym bag and trying to both talk myself into it and out of it. I probably didn't put in as much effort as I should have, but at least I did it, which means I'm done with NRLW Stage 4. If I get my act together to go 3x/week instead of 2x/week I can finish Stage 5 before going on vacation. The worst part of these workouts is planks. I don't know exactly why -- it's some combination of trying to do planks when my arms and shoulders and back are already exhausted from the earlier portions of the workout, and also the fact that I have a separation in my abdominal muscles from my pregnancy. Mostly I think it's just the arms though. My shoulders and arms give out on holding me up before my abs give out, so 1 minute is about as long as I can stand. I wonder how long I could hold a plank if it was the first exercise I did instead of the last? Also, what are good alternatives to planks? I've been kind of doing some pilates moves instead where I can lay on my back and not have to hold myself up with my arms. |
Becky - good luck with the Invisalign! One of my coworkers did it and her teeth look lovely.
Jessica - Same thing happens to me in planks - arms, shoulders, wrists give up on me. I've been doing arm strengthening exercises, and you may find that you can hold it longer at the beginning, definitely. I don't know any good alternatives. Maybe seated boat leaned back as far as your back can support? Michele - great job on getting in the exercise! :) Allison - you've got this today. Saef - lots of rain here, too. It is wearing on me. Birchie - hugs to you. I also am marking time more than moving forward right now, myself. I have exactly two weeks left until I get my permanent crowns and bridge. Had to go in last Friday for the final measurements and the temporary bridge cracked when they took it out so half had to be remade. The new piece is rough and doesn't fit as well. The tech I had last week is good with making the temps, but not as good as the one I had the first time. They didn't expect to have to make another one last week and the primary tech was on vacation. I have to stop fussing with it and just chill. Two more weeks. That's all. I'm still exercising and yoga and headspace just fine. Food has been meh. Not a lot of excess, but not great choices. Meh. |
DS got the job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
|
Allison! Woo hoo! Big congrats to him!
