Tuesday morning, and I'm at 154.5, already late to the gym and undecided about what to do with my left leg feeling so out of sorts. The knee doesn't bend so well first thing in the morning, but then as I keep walking on it, I regain mobility.
Andrea, I'm old enough to remember the Watergate hearings during my childhood, and straining to remember how that came about. It seems to me we're heading toward something climactic, but I don't know what, or how damaged everything will be by the time we get there. |
Andrea - I've been pretty beside myself over it, too. I'm desperately afraid of where we are going. And, I'm so glad that you and your family are here.

DH and I are at the emergency vet with my kitty. Her rear legs were falling out from under her when we got home from dinner and she was falling over to her right side when she walked. It was coming and going, not all the time.
So when I was 11, the man who lived across the street from our house shot my cat while she sat by the end of the driveway waiting for us to get home from my grandmother's house. We had stayed late because I was watching TV, or she would have been inside. You could see where she pulled herself to the door of the house to wait for us. She died at the vet. If my cat dies tonight because I didn't want to cook dinner and wasn't home when something happened to her I'm going to lose my freaking mind. |

Shannon, I'm so sorry. But both of these things happened because of things beyond your control -- an unexpected illness and the unpredictable, inexplicable actions of a psychotic & cruel man. Neither happened because you were late getting home. Everyone's late getting home at one time or another.
Wednesday morning, and I'm now at 153.6. Leg still feels stiff, and I'm not at the gym yet, and wondering if I'm up to the Stairmaster or not. It's strange how this has come on, when I have to meet my lawyer on Friday and Monday to prepare for the deposition in the lawsuit over the accident. |
Shannon . So sorry to hear about your kitty. Not your fault though. We can't watch over our pets or our kids or our SO's 24/7. You have given her a very good life and, if it's over, she knows you loved and cherished her. if she still has time with you you will do so even more.

Oh, Shannon, I'm so sorry about your kitty! I hope she'll be okay. ((hugs))

Hi guys. Thanks for thinking of us this morning. We are home, after an overnight at the emergency vet with IV fluids and a follow up at the regular vet this morning. We've got a heart murmur, which I've known about her whole life but it has gotten more noticeable over the years, some high kidney numbers, and had some solid dehydration last night. She seems much better after the fluid last night. Our vet checked her over this morning, didn't check her blood pressure because she flipped out at the idea of it after all the messing with her since last night, removed the catheter the EV had left in place in case she needed more fluids, scheduled a checkup for three months from now and wants me to sneak her in next week to get her BP checked. The vet said that the binge drinking and immediate throwing up of water can be a sign of kidney issue, or can just be the same thing she does when she sometimes binge eats food. We are keeping an eye on it. The EV mentioned all kinds of scary things like neurological issues, heart disease, kidney failure. Our regular vet was more mellow, but of course the symptoms were gone by then. So, keeping an eye on her. I have to take the bandage off her leg in about half an hour, and that could be terrifying. She is very much tired of the poking and prodding.
I'm working a little right now, but will probably take a nap if I can. There wasn't much sleeping for me last night and the sinus migraine this morning is reminding me of that fact. |

I have to take my Wilbur into the vet this afternoon. His sister, Charlotte, is the one with kidney disease. He's been healthy as a horse, but he has a weird bump on his lip, which I'm immediately paranoid about and assuming the worst. Hopefully my fears are unfounded. Dh says he doesn't want more kitties after these two go, which would leave me heartbroken, so I hope we don't have to think about it anytime soon. |
Shannon, I'm so glad to hear that your kitty is improved. I don't want to be pessimistic or upset you, but it sounds like there is sufficient concern for kidney disease. Based on her blood pressure measurement, you may want a recheck sooner than 3 months. Depending on her kidney values at that recheck, she may be in need of some fluid therapy at home a few times each week. How old is she?

Shannon, I'm glad your kitty is okay for now. We had one in the hospital a while ago with pancreatitis and bad kidney numbers. He stayed for five days, until he began eating again. My vet said to watch him closely because it could be chronic, but he hasn't had another episode in over a year and a half. I hope yours stays well too!

Shannon, sending good thoughts your way for the furbaby and for your calm. It's so scary when anyone close, be it human or pet, has a medical episode. :(
Saef, also thinking of you and your troubled leg. And for a positive meeting with the lawyer! |
JZJ - yeah, I know. The doctor said that same thing when we were talking about checking her blood pressure next week. She just turned 16, so not a young one. I'm going to keep a close eye on her, and we may redo the kidney stuff sooner rather than later.
The vet did say she had a lot of vigor for 16. As she raised heck over having the catheter taken out and tried to get out of the exam room. She isn't the typical geriatric kitty. :) |
