We are currently abandoning ship in cold weather conditions ...

IRL I am still wearing my fleece blanket kilt.

I am about to read about the South Pole expeditions of Amundsen and Scott. Your information would come in handy.

No fleece needed here, though.

JayEll, that will be a great read.

But for now, please keep calm and evaluate your options. Find your whistle and other things which require manual dexterity asap, as you'll stop being able to do that soon.

Please wear a life jacket. If you aren't wearing one, don't wave too much for help because that will get rid of the air in your clothing that's helping to keep you afloat. Shout or blow your whistle.

Concerningly, a significant percentage (no source) of people die just before, during or after they are rescued. I hadn't realised this.

Finally, after the initial cold water shock, short overweight women last a *lot* longer in polar waters than do tall, lean women. (They don't lose body heat as quickly.) Short, overweight men do well too. Food for thought.

And time for a warm drink here.

Just about to head out to go golfing. It is 47 degrees here. That's pretty chilly. At least the sun is out. but they don't expect it to go above 60 today. Brrr. (That's cold for us!)

Weight is down today! I had a 2 pound blip this week that put me just under my all-time high. This sucks.

I think it's because they relax. Fear is what is keeping them alive, via adrenaline. Once that goes, unless something happens quickly the hypothermia overtakes them.

This explains why seals, walruses, etc. don't strive to slim down.

alinnell, stay warm! Although 60 and sunny isn't terribly cold, unless there is a wind.

Yes, it is that but also that they are rescued wrongly (eg, vertically rather than horizontally - don't quite understand why this makes a difference but it does) and also that they may drown as a result of the rescue vessel's wash.

Seals and walruses. You never hear of them making New Year resolutions to lose 20lbs, do you?

Allison, enjoy the sun. It's only making occasional visits here at the moment.

0.5lb down this week. Hurray! I accept it.

Last week I was 2.5lbs down so it's fair enough that my body should have a breather this week and see what's coming next.

Nicely done, Birchie! I wouldn't call a .5 pound loss "a breather" - it is significant! I never hoped for more than .5 pounds a week when I was trying to lose. Slow and steady is the way!

Good for you Birchie. I wish I could say the same, but mine is going the other direction.

We had our monthly wine women dinner last night, and the steak tasted really salty, so I'm hoping this morning's weigh in weight is up due to sodium. I won't dwell on it other than keeping my intake low today in hopes that the scale goes lower tomorrow.

Weird weather here. Lots of wind and warmer temperatures. That made sleeping difficult last night. Loud wind, warm (I like it cold when I sleep) and a cat that decided to sleep with me all night means a terrible night's sleep.

It has been unseasonably warm here - I went for a run at the park this morning and it was 67 degrees at 7:30. This weekend it got up to 75 on Saturday.

I didn't weigh today, tomorrow is my once per week day. I had some salty food this weekend - sandwich meat, a turkey hot dog on Sunday night - and am hoping that it will have faded through by tomorrow.

I did well with food and exercise this week. Figure I need to stock in the good before the holidays put me inevitably off track.

I killed the thread again.

I've been working on recovering my running stride. I am moving back to full support shoes for my over pronation and it has been hard. I think it will be better in the long term, but right now everything feels sore. Plus, I'm tired. I have barely taken any days off from exercise in nine weeks. I know I'll have probably two days off next week, so I'm barreling through right now.

And I'm cold in my office.

You didn't kill it, Shannon.

I haven't felt like posting lately--mainly because I looked at my chart and I've GAINED 5 pounds in the past 6 weeks. And the next couple of weeks aren't going to help much (Christmas work party with a fajita bar, Christmas eve and day with family, New Year's eve at a party and then NYD at home to celebrate three birthdays).

I guess I need to set my sights on January 2nd (or 4th as it is a Monday) to really start cracking. Looking back, 10 years ago, I started in January at about the weight I am now and by April had lost a considerable amount. I need to be back around 145 by the end of June, but would prefer more off by then.

No, you didn't kill it, Shannon. Tired and cold in the office doesn't sound good.

I can see you've got a few challenges ahead of you, Allison. Eat carefully?

I've been battling with a funny tummy (indigestion? stress? who knows?) for a few days. I think it's gone now and I can get back to how I was. I really hope so.

Just back from seeing one of my oldest friends. We escorted one another part-way up a mountain and back again in the rain. It was nice.

Allison - I feel you. I dropped down to not talking much when I gained ten pounds in September and October. I get that. Good luck the next few weeks.

Birchie - How are you feeling today?
