I don't mention the midges because I am trying to forget them. My scalp is crusted with midge bites. As are my legs, my neck, etc. Being outside every minute of every day made us sitting ducks for the little stinkers.

One of our hosts had a funny story: she was organizing a road bicycle tour of Scotland for some foreign guests, and one guest called her and asked "will the midgets be bad there?" It took her a few seconds to realize that they were worried about midges (not midgets)...

That is fighting talk, saef.

There are already decorations for that red and green themed holiday we can't discuss yet out on display at my local Costco.

I like "Maintainers watching the scales fall.

I'm up for giving it one more day for voting. We're leaning heavily in one direction as the tally runs now. I will volunteer to start the next thread by 4pm tomorrow. Still room for killer alternatives! :)

Black and orange, red and green are side by side at a couple of local supermarkets here. Maybe we should start placing a lit pumpkin and Christmas lights at our houses?

We should be in the new house for Halloween. Given that my father totally spoiled Halloween last year I hope to get the decorations up and hand out candy for an hour at least. Probably no pumpkin this year - DH's department - but hey, we're still pretty impressive without it.

Nightmare. You are even more of a hard case than I thought! :D

Some sentences by Leigh Peele that I'm still mulling over.

It wasn’t meant to do this, it doesn’t want to do this, and it will fight you if you try to do this.

Let me restate that again: your body does not want to maintain low body fat. It wants to make you hungry, slow you down, alter your mental stability, and manipulate your hormonal state for one purpose, one goal. What is that end goal? Achieve peak metabolic homeostasis, by any means necessary. It doesn’t matter if that means you stuffing your face due to increased ghrelin (hunger hormone) or the body decreasing your NEAT (subconscious activity).

Saef-- those indeed are words to mull over. Who is Leigh Peele by the way?

Shannon in ATL 09-12-2013 11:09 AM

Saef - there are several definitions of homeostasis - the one I go to most often is "The tendency of an organism or cell to regulate its internal conditions, such as the chemical composition of its body fluids, so as to maintain health and functioning, regardless of outside conditions." Metabolic homeostasis I would take to mean that balance where you don't gain or lose, but stay at a level. Is Leigh trying to say that regardless of what we do, our bodies will find where they want to be and stay there?
