Did your feet change?

I'm posting this here because you all have met your goals.

How much did your feet change when you lost and how much did you lose?

I have always worn an 11W, it's so hard to find cute shoes at that size! The idea of my feet shrinking is motivation enough for me to lose weight!! :)

I went down about 1 size 8.5-7.5.

Well I'm a few pounds away from maintenance but I have lost half a shoe size. I went from wearing 8w to a 7 1/2m.

Garnet2727 05-09-2013 07:13 PM

I'm not even close to maintenance yet and I've lost 1/2 a shoe size.

Lolo70 05-09-2013 07:15 PM

I still have 20-25 lbs to go, but essentially lost 1 size so far (8 to 7).

bargoo 05-09-2013 09:36 PM

I went down about a size and a half.

I didn't lose any length, but did go from a wide to a regular width.

My shoe size has always been 11 narrow. After losing 30 pounds my shoe size didn't change, but MUCH more importantly for me, I had been suffering from plantar fasciitis for over two years. Walking was painful, I was taking 9 ibuprofins a day and still in pain, and I could no longer take hikes in my beloved Colorado mountains or the sacred stillness of the Utah desert. As one who has climbed almost 1000 mountains in my life, this was extremely depressing. The weight loss plus daily stretches finally made the plantar fasciitis go away.

Other changes: blood pressure reduction, teeth cleaning much easier at the dentist's office (less plaque buildup due to less sugar), better mood, etc etc etc. It's impossible to know in advance what changes you may have but believe me they are all good (unless you go on a starvation diet). By all means use the shoe width goal as an inspiration because it may indeed change. But I warn you, worst case scenario you will be down several dress sizes, you'll look and feel healthier, your risk of diabetes, cancer, stroke and heart disease will drop dramatically, you'll have more energy, etc etc etc. Those will be some real fine consolation prizes if your shoe width doesn't shrink so I say go for it!!! Let us know how it goes. You've already lost more weight than I did so YOU GO GIRL!!!!

I'll be the anomaly here. I started walking & running on really hard pavement early in my weight loss & developed foot problems. So I went to the foot doctor for the first time. Turns out that, over the years while I was fat, I developed enlarged big toe joints -- what they call a lateral bunion. (Runs in my mother's family, with very slender cousins developing them while still in their 20s.) When I got thin, they became very visible. So while my heel is now narrow, the bony growth prevents me from dropping a shoe size. I have a difficult time buying shoes & still need a wide. But it hasn't got to do with fleshiness of the foot, which is considerably reduced.

I'm not at goal yet but I have gone from an 8 to a 7.5

BeachBreeze2010 05-10-2013 10:05 AM

I went from a size 9W to an 8 1/2M. BUT - like saef said, the previous damage done to my feet from being overweight is more obvious. I don't have pain anymore from plantar fascitis or ankle pain like I did, but the bunions definitely stand out more. I'm a little self conscious of them, but I've heard how painful that surgery is so I'll just "wear" them like the rest of the "scars" I have on my body from being overweight (loose skin, stretch marks, etc).

I went from about a 6.5 to a 6 for most things. I'm still a 6.5 in some styles of shoes, but I'm pretty much firmly in 6s now.

Tai 05-11-2013 02:25 PM

I went from an 8 to a 6.5. I still need a wide width though.

Remington90 05-11-2013 02:28 PM

I haven't got there yet but I sure hope they do! Finding cute shoes and especially cowboy boots (which I'm obsessed with) are hard to find for size 10-11. That actually fit comfortably.

Charin 05-13-2013 09:00 PM

I went down from 6.5-7.5w to 5.5 regular. Couldn't believe it at first.
