I don't understand. We have to pay for all other internet access but not with this device? Or is it similar to the laptop in that I can get wireless access as long as my clients give me their codes and passwords? I'll have to go to a store and ask a bunch of questions. And then see if I can get a used one when someone else trades up for the next latest thing.

That's right.

My partner has one, and she takes it on vacation instead of lugging her laptop around, so she can get email. She has a Google Mail account. I don't know how well it loads websites like 3FC, though. Something to ask.

Remember it's the "Touch" you want to check into. It looks like an iPhone, but it's not.

Just an update-- You can get iPod Touches that have 3G etc., and for those you have to pay monthly for the 3G service. That's different from the Wi-Fi service. If you want no monthly charge, get Wi-Fi. My partner says that you can load all sorts of web stuff.

Happy 4th of July to all!

I'm so excited because dh is due home later today after being gone over 3 weeks! I know Dewey will be so excited but he won't understand when dh and I leave tomorrow for Florida.

I'm off to bikram yoga and then more packing/ getting ready.

Have a great time, Michele !

:celebrate: I hope all you Americans had a wonderful 4th! I am without calendar (or clocks) at the dog sit and didn't even realize what day it was.

We had a pretty relaxing day yesterday. At least, I did, DH got called for support for someone in Germany and had to work part of the day. In any case, there is a massive drought and heat wave going on right now so most of the fireworks were cancelled, which is just fine by me because it means Carter doesn't freak out all night.

We went to visit DH's grandma who has just moved into an assisted living facility. The place seems nice enough. I think she's kind of upset about it but not as bad as I thought -- it seems less like she's upset about losing independence and more that she's upset about, well, being really old. Not much to be done about that. But she's got a friend who also moved there who she has dinner with every night, and her sister-in-law also lives there, and she says all the people she's met have been very friendly, so that's good. It's much closer to us than her old house was so we can visit more often too -- it's practically on our way home from work.

In other news, I took Carter to get his teeth cleaned and his nails trimmed Tuesday and gave him a bath Wednesday morning. Now he is nicely cleaned and trimmed and all, but he's shedding like crazy and I can't keep up with it. I used the Furminator on him for about five minutes, only on half of one side of him, and got a gigantic pile of hair off. I'd like to give him a really thorough brushing but after five minutes he decides he's had enough and gets up and leaves.

That sounds very nice for dh's Grandma. I'm sure she will adjust quickly with friends and relatives living there. When we moved my dad into assisted living it was a hard adjustment and he didn't know anyone there.

Hope everyone's doing OK and holding up after yesterday. I spent 12 hours outside and ate too many chips. My roommate made an American flag cake using a Paula Deen recipe (3 sticks of butter...). We watched a simultaneous fireworks-and-heat-lightning show from a high hill in the city park. A nice day off that has made today IMPOSSIBLE to stay awake through.

I think Paula Deen's body must be about 75% butter by now. :p

Paula has lost a lot of weight. Did you see her picture on the cover of People Magazine ? I think she has lost about 30 pounds, she looks great.

Just blistering out there today :flame:. I do appreciate Laffie these days - he has A/C and those little 5 minute rides :brr: help immensely. I used to be totally drained :faint: at the end of the day with my other car (and faced intensifying heat as I drove north from the lake toward home) but I'm still functioning these days.

The dogs all stayed in the water all the time they were out at the dog beach. I took a backpack with toys and just kept chucking them into the lake. I'm going to buy a doggie backpack and assign a different beast each walk to carry the gear. That should help my back. :dizzy:

Speaking of I did a remarkable manouver this morning. The cat and younger dog distracted me as I neared the bottom of the staircase (black treads, painted wood). I stepped, and missed  the last two steps. Came down on my front foot, back totally straight, and slid my back foot out from where it was bent under on the steps. Maintained my balance as I mentally checked :yikes: to see if there was some new major injury. I came away from what could have been horrible with a bruise on my ankle.

Nadia Comaneci, eat your heart out! :p I really hope I can go back to doing stretches next week - that's what saves me from major injury now.

TGIF (even though I'm working it's pretty darn good setup) :yay:

Waving briefly from a motel room downstate. I didn't get enough done at the apartment & so stayed over for a second night. Everyone is asking if I am moving in yet, since so many others are. I have to tell them it won't happen for another two weeks. I'm just here to do what I can. Now, with my mother's help, I have:

- A cherry canopy twin bed set up in the very small guest room, fully made up
- Working fridge and dishwasher. (Gas line not yet hooked up for stove.)
- Shelf paper on, and much of my kitchen set up -- or at least, what survived the flood & some things bought since.
- Glass shades put on all the overhead lighting fixtures, and nearly all of them with bulbs in them.
- My massive 12,000 BTU Friedrich Wallmaster airconditioner set into the wall sleeve and operational.
- Medicine cabinet and over-the-toilet cabinet hung up, towel rack up, and shower curtain hung.
- The keys to the apartment.
- My local gym membership restarted.
- A box of checks from HSBC (much needed).

Tomorrow, shades and curtains. More shelfpaper. A call to the painter/wallpaperer to set up work. And then back Upstate for a week's respite.

Still waiting for a Certificate of Occupancy, pending electrical inspection and plumbing inspection.

Still feels unreal, though. Maybe because of my deep pessimism.

BillBlueEyes 07-07-2012 04:36 AM

saef - that's the most encouraging update you've posted in a while. Your place sounds like it could be live in - with one made bed no less.

We're warm here, but not experiencing the killing triple digit heat of some areas. I did three hours of yard work at my son's place - enough to get thoroughly drenched.
