Wednesday, 25 May:

45 minute spin class
30 minutes Pilates mat routine on my own

The imaginary bite that the imaginary horse chomped out of my left calf muscle has now healed. No leg cramps last night or early this morning at 6 AM spin class.

And the weather has changed. It's so ravishingly beautiful outside. Just in time for Memorial Day, too.

Thursday, 26 May:

60 minutes arc trainer, hill intervals, resistance at nine

Trying to reconcile myself to missing Pilates class this evening by getting in a cardio workout in the morning. I take this class far too seriously. Because the classes have built on each other incrementally from week to week, I feel as if it were an academic class, and missing it means irreparably falling behind everyone else. Okay, so that's ridiculous, but it's how I feel.

Also, I feel very rude for not having said this before:

Uber, welcome to the neighborhood! Usually I think the custom is inviting someone over for a cup of coffee, right? Perhaps for this thread it's a sports drink or a protein supplement. (Neither of which I've ever tasted before ...)

Thursday

10 mins rowing.
40 mins physio exercises. Then I felt a bit funny. Too much coffee earlier? Or is it just that these exercises are Really Very Hard for me? So I gave up and had a shower.

I'll pass round these carrot sticks. Would you like a piece of celery? I'm having a hard-boiled egg for protein. Hummus?

50 minutes brisk walking from the cricket ground. It was overcast but good to be out. We have a route along tracks, past a ford and up and down some hills. And my friends walk slightly faster than I would which is probably good for me.

Friday, 27 May:

Warmup minutes rowing on the Concept 2, which got me to 2,000 meters in about 9:45 minutes
60 minutes weights
45 minutes elliptical, resistance at eight, random intervals, alternating going backward

My whole planned morning workout was thrown out the window by my checking my e-mail at 5 AM & finding I had work from colleagues in China and Germany & also from a West Coast analyst who'd worked until midnight on revisions. So I ended up going tonight, though I dislike working out in the gym on a Friday night. The foot traffic past the gym's big windows is heavy with people headed to restaurants & bars & I feel I'm on display, like a fish in an aquarium. Also I'm usually the only woman there except for the girl at the desk & the guys are all doing weights & it's hard to get a bench.

Saturday, 28 May:

45 minute spin class
60 minute Pilates class

It feels so good to slip into a familiar routine: The farmer's market has started up again, a small, selective one that's around the corner from my gym. I remembered to bring a shopping bag & a coin purse with some bills in it to the gym so that, after classes, I was able to head down there. The leeks were gorgeous, much greener & nicer than in the grocery store's produce department. As was the spinach. Not much out there. I suspect the deluge of rain will have delayed planting season or gotten some crops off to a wet beginning.

Sunday, 29 May:

9:44 minutes warming up by rowing on the Concept 2 for 2,000 meters
60 minutes weights
45 minute spin class

The Sunday morning spin classes were fully booked, but the gym otherwise was very quiet. Lots of people must be away for the holiday weekend.

silverbirch 05-29-2011 04:07 PM

Saturday - warm-up on the rower (10 mins) and physio exercises (40 mins)

Sunday - just in from an hour of moving gravel in the garden. The bath beckons.

Thanks for the welcome! Unfortunately, I came down with a stomach bug and am taking a few days off.
