The best part about Easter food is the motherlode of hard-boiled eggs. Yay for hard-boiled egg whites!!!

kittycat40 04-25-2011 12:34 PM

on the poop front- what I have noticed is that my before lifestyle change- I often dealt with big time constipation. and since I changed my way of eating in feb/march 2008- daily or almost daily movements. interesting.

and after the weekend I am back up to 130. just had about 250 cals of easter bunny/egg chocolate at work. that's lunch for me. annoyed with myself.

half marathon coming up this sunday. I am treating it as a big training run as I am in no condition to set time goals.

onward. forward. downward. :D

LOL neuro, the tailbone doctor is a physiatrist who is part of an orthopedic hospital group. I just like to sort out my doctors by what part of my body they treat (tailbone doctor, foot doctor, thyroid doctor, wrist doctor...).

Started the new anti-inflammatory today. Wrists seem grumpier than they were over the weekend. I think my body just reacts badly to the anti-inflammatories. Still waiting on lab results from the endo. I'm leaning toward stopping the anti-inflammatories altogether because they seem to either do nothing or make things worse.

BUT, I did get in a stationary bike ride and some core exercises so I feel good about that. Also a 15-min ride on my actual bike this weekend which was nice.

Weight still stable but not as low as I'd like. DH started P90X today. I sent him an email jokingly asking if his muscles had grown enough to bust out of his shirt yet. :lol3: He sent me back a link to a youtube video of the incredible hulk hulking out.

Too much junk this weekend but with DH on his new diet there is now no junk in the house at all. I will try to be strong. I told him though that even if he's going to not eat any dessert for 90 days, I still need the occasional treat so I will have to sneak off and have it without him.

One more day of Passover and then I'm going to eat a giant bowl of spaghetti for dinner tomorrow. :p

I am finally rid of both aggressive dogs I was walking and boy, did I feel different this afternoon after work. I was tired but not totally drained, the way I have been for a couple of years.

Yes, YEARS! I dealt with one aggressive dog for over 2 years before finally throwing in the towel. At least I'm speeding up. The newer aggresssive dog lasted 6 months and then I dumped her. The anxiety of waiting every day to get bitten/attacked totally exhausted me. I'd eat and eat in the evening, trying to get some energy back.

I came home today (after managing to go grocery shopping after work) and still had some energy left. Still do now, after dinner. :woohoo: Am eating a bowl of strawberries later for enjoyment and that's it!

Dagmar :beach:

ICUwishing 04-26-2011 10:59 AM

Dagmar - Congratulations! No fightin', no bitin'!

Resigned from my job this morning. Bummed for the people I'm leaving and the extra work they'll be taking on, since it's a fact I won't be replaced for a long time, if ever. But happy to have made a decision and taken ownership. I'll have til next Friday to get it all organized and made as painless as possible, and then on to a clean fresh start on May 6. Spring forward! :)

paperclippy 04-26-2011 11:46 AM

Becky, good luck with the job change!

Dagmar, good for you for putting your foot down about the aggressive dogs.

Saw the podiatrist again today. He gave me cortisone injections in both feet. Kind of weird because he did the local anesthetic first (which hurt like @#$%) but then when he did the injection it hurt too (although not as much). He was like, that's weird, you shouldn't have been able to feel that. In any case he did them in slightly different locations on my feet and now the toes on my right foot are numb, but my left foot is not. I sure hope this wears off soon because it feels very strange and is hard to walk with numb toes. DH, ever the optimist, was like, "Maybe he messed up your nerve and it's permanent." I sure hope not.

Congrats, Becky!

alinnell 04-26-2011 12:57 PM

Congrats Becky! I did a similar thing a few years back and it was really hard leaving everyone, but I'm SO glad I did. My stress level dropped precipitously and recently I found out that the headquarters finally did close the office as they had been threatening for years to do.

Jessica~my DH had cortisone shots in his wrists (he got CTS from driving his race car) and he said that although it hurt, he's been free of symptoms for over 5 years now. Granted it helps that he no longer drives race cars!

I just read that Laughing Cow has new flavors. Oh, yum, they sound so good! I'll have to check for them the next time I go grocery shopping.

WaterRat 04-26-2011 03:00 PM

Howdy! I haven't been posting here for quite awhile, but I try to read and keep up, but fell by the wayside with 2 long trips in 4 months.

Anyway, things are going fine in my life, other than I seem to excellent at maintaining, but really I need to lose some pounds and then maintain. :)

Becky - congrats on the new job. It was hard for me to leave the folks at the library when I retired, but I do get to see them as I haven't given up reading.

Jessica - sorry to hear that you're still having problems with your wrists, hope you figure it out soon.

I was doing well with no Easter candy until we went to dinner at our next door neighbors and she gave us an adorable bunny bowl filled with chocolate eggs, and worse, chocolate PB eggs. Thank goodness DH ate at least his half! They're gone now except one large hollow chocolate egg he's working on.

We were visiting family the first 2 weeks of April, and while I didn't gain any weight, I sure felt bloated and just "off" from eating too many restaurant meals, and just meals that were not what I eat at home. Glad to be back on my normal eating plan again. Still slightly retaining water from ham on Sunday, but I'm drinking lots of water.

paperclippy 04-26-2011 04:25 PM

Allison, I had about 15 cortisone shots (plus two surgeries) in my wrists a few years back. They helped a lot but since I make a living typing I can't quit the activity like your DH could!

The anesthetic has mostly worn off now. Only half of my big toe is still numb, but on the other hand now that it wore off my feet really really hurt when I stand up. I probably looked ridiculous shuffling around trying to get from my desk to the bathroom.

Passover is almost over! I realized that my Passover breakfast has about 200 calories more than my rest of the year breakfast and far less fiber. :o Tracking in around 1800-2000 calories right now. Once I can get back to my usual cooking I will rein it back in to 1400 to try to drop these 3lbs. Also crossing my fingers that these injections work and I can get back to running soon.

Mudpie 04-26-2011 06:17 PM

Hellpuppy - that was what was in my car today. SIGH. I really feel for this little dog (irresponsible owner) but I can't wrestle with a furry barking biting peeing alligator every day. Unless there's a miracle I will have to give her up at the end of the week. And since she lives 4 blocks away from me every time I drive past her house I'll feel guilty. Sometimes I hate my job.

I'm not going to eat to comfort myself though. At least not anything awful. I did buy a fruit tray and will probably make inroads on that tonite.

Dagmar :(

traveling michele 04-27-2011 12:53 AM

Allison-- what new flavors? I've had the blue cheese, the chipotle, the queso fresco.... all yummy!! Are those the new ones or are there more?

Dagmar-- you sure find (or they find you) some not so nice dogs. There are so many sweet and wonderful dogs out there. Or perhaps Canadian dogs aren't as nice as American dogs?!? Just kidding of course.

Mudpie 04-27-2011 05:34 AM

Michele Nice dogs are kinda like nice people - nothing much happens with them them so I don't really comment. I have 11 regular dogs on the bus now every day and they are all nice dogs.

I'm going to lose a lot of sleep deciding about this puppy. She, due to the ineptitude/lack of caring on the part of her owner/his girlfriend, is going to be a "handful". But I'm all she's got for any significant exercise/socialization. And the client did employ and pay me for close to 14 years for his other dog.

I have a new puppy coming in July (for sure - it's been conceived and bought already) and that one will be a puppy I train from 7 weeks of age. That will be the "easy" puppy.

It's so hard to decide in 4 days. But if I keep the "hard" puppy any longer I'm going to get totally attached to her - I'm a sucker for labrador retrievers and she's mostly lab. SIGH.

DH was not helpful last night. He insisted we watch a show about chocolate and kept bugging me to go out and buy some with him. I did decline but I ate stuff on top of the serving of fruit I had planned. Cheese and bread so it wasn't unhelathy but my weight remains stationary today, instead of going down a bit.

Dagmar :?:

paperclippy 04-27-2011 08:52 AM

Dagmar, it's too bad the puppy's owner is being irresponsible. It drives me nuts when people are not responsible dog owners. Speaking of being responsible dog owners, DH and I are working on some new skills with Carter. We're still trying to improve his social skills (mostly with people), but now we're working on being able to just put him in the bedroom and shut the door when we have people over. The idea is that it will be easier for him to learn that skill than to learn to tolerate strangers, so we can use it in the meantime until we work out his social issues. It will still be a good bit of work because normally if we shut him in a separate room from us he barks, whines, paws at the door, and destroys whatever he can get his paws on. The new technique is working out okay so far though -- we bought an everlasting treat ball which he likes much better than the kong, and we've been teaching him a routine where we take him for a walk, tell him some key words, go upstairs to the bedroom and give him the ball, then we sit there and ignore him while he plays with it. Last time I was able to leave the room and shut him in there for a minute and he just kept chewing away at the treat ball. OTOH he growled at me when I went to take it away from him.

Feet are still sore from the shots today but better than yesterday. My left foot is swollen up a bit around the injection site. The numbness is all gone though so that's a relief. Crossing my fingers than in 1-2 more days they will feel much better.

Back on the wagon for me today. No more Passover means back to my usual meals, particularly breakfast and dinner. I know other people have different reactions, but I find a bowl of spaghetti to be infinitely more satisfying than a piece of chicken and a baked potato.

alinnell 04-27-2011 09:51 AM

Michele~those are a few of the new flavors. Another is mozzarella with sun dried tomato and basil. I was at the store yesterday and forgot to look to see if they had it. I kind of think they wouldn't as it is a small family-owned store rather than one of the big ones. They tend to carry a lot of imports and specialty items though.

Jessica~I hear you on the pasta being more satisfying! I picked up some hot Italian turkey sausage yesterday to make my Mostaccioli spinach bake sometime soon.

Dagmar~I wonder about people and the way they are with their animals. I know mine aren't perfect, but I certainly try.
