Fiction Book with a Post-Obese Main Character
http://www.amazon.com/Good-Enough-Ea...5117410&sr=8-1
A female lead I can actually RELATE to in terms of weight??? Not someone who is described as thin but eats like a horse, or someone who is described as fat but trying to lose? Say it isn't so!
This is actually the book of one of Jen Lancaster's best friends, and I know we have some Lancaster fans here. I read it and really enjoyed it, as a nicely fluffy romance novel (ETA: the plotline involves a romance among other things, it's not your "classic" romance novel by any means). that delved a bit into the issues and complexity around food. (ETA: It's post obese chick-lit!)
Anyway, thought I'd share!

Oh! And the end is full of recipes, both of "decadent" dishes and their healthy made over counterpoints.

You know what was best about this book? She either HAS lost a ton of weight or knows someone who has (or has been spying on 3FC!!). Because she wrote about a character whose life did NOT turn out perfectly after the weight loss! And who still struggles sometimes with food issues! And who doesn't really LIKE the gym, but goes to maintain her weight! And who starts dating only to fear getting naked in front of her new beau because she has...loose skin!! The honesty about what after-major-weight-loss life is like was so refreshing.

Thanks for the recommendation, Amanda! I love Jen Lancaster (and all her friends that she writes about) so this is a win-win!

Just finished this book a couple of days ago, and I totally agree with Mandalinn that it's worth your time to read. A very enjoyable book, with relatable and "real" characters - I liked that it didn't stick to the formula. I'm not on the post-obesity side of things (yet!), but really loved this story....it's one I'm sure I'll read again at some point.

And just finished it - was my sick day book. Loved it. I found myself especially pulled by her reaction to a small weight gain - I saw me all over it.

I'm glad you liked it! I just hadn't really had a book before where I could connect with a character on the topic of having lost a lot of weight, and what that means for your life. It was, as I said, refreshing!
I felt her on the regain too. Like it was all going to spiral out of control, and then coming around to "I know how to control this, I just have to do it".

Just saw this post and will be getting the book. Thanks!
I love the idea of post obese chick-lit. I think it should become its own genre and get a Library of Congress subject heading!
