Bill, Gary - they make Cherry Garcia in a frozen yogurt now. Pretty good, actually, and not as bad for you as the real stuff.

Dagmar - sorry about your finger! Ick!

Allison - DH does some of that online gaming, I imagine it can be lucrative for your daughter, but it requires a lot of work to keep things up and going all the time. Online gamers want things to be just right.

Bill - I love candied pecans... Sounds like you did pretty well under the circumstances, though.

Gary - thanks! I'll get in touch with you. I'm pretty handy, so I think I can do it.

I had a good day yesterday, hope for another good day today.

to anyone I missed!

Why hello there

Yesterday, I caved into the PMS munchies and dove way off the deep end. I don't need to surrender control when that happens, yet I find myself doing it over and over again. I also learned cherry gelato is AMAZING. --and so are the oh so accurately named Munchies.

I always like to say "today is the first day of the rest of my life." I am going to do much better today.

Jessica - computational neuroscience sounds fascinating as a concept, but not so much as a major. I'm glad you're doing something more exciting and rewarding for yourself. I'm equally glad that you got through those two miserable years of grad school; it's tough to pay attention when you're losing interest

On the tri thing.. congrats again... that is such an AWESOME accomplishment

Allison - 4.633 GPA? I didn't know that was possible. My high school only went up to a 4.5.

Like your DD, I tried to start a business at age 19 -- mine was designing Web sites. I was very successful for the first six months, but also very irresponsible. To make a long story short, I sucked it up and got a "real" job six months later. I fell on my face in a short-term sort of way, but learned plenty of valuable lessons. It didn't deter me from trying again once I was truly ready.

Don't you have your own business? You could be a wealth of support for her in that regard

Dagmar - ouch! I had the same thing happen to me in 8th grade. It sounds like you jammed it. That's awesome you got DH to be domestic for you

Dagmar-- hope your finger is feeling better!

Allison-- I feel your pain. Parenting these teens is so challenging. My 19 y/o sounds so defensive whenever I talk to her. She seems to resent everything I say. I know this too shall pass. It just hurts me as we've always been super close.

My younger dd survived her wisdom teeth surgery. She is a difficult patient though not as bad as dh! She was so funny when she had her adenoids out (saying hilarious things) that I taped some of what she said/did yesterday. There are tons of youtube videos out there that are so funny-- look up wisdom teeth and unicorns if you want a laugh! She hasn't felt well enough to watch the video I made of her yet. She did want us to take her picture with "her car" when dh brought home the new mini yesterday. She really thinks it is "her car". Our plans are to probably give it to her when she is a junior in college which won't be for 4 years (she is 15 1/2 now). We will let her use the car but she'll have to share it with dh. We've never had such a cool car! I need to have a lesson before I drive it-- everything is different from the way you put the key in!

Going to try to leave dd and go to the gym for spin. Hope she survives without me waiting on her hand and foot for a bit.

Shane~yes, my DH and I own our own business, but it's a far cry from what DD is doing. We manage everything, but farm out the hard stuff (we have a lawyer, CPA who does our monthly bookkeeping and figures out taxes and stuff, and a payroll company, an IT guy to help with computer issues, etc.). Both DH and I have given DD some advice, most of it she already knew and was working on already (business plan, job descriptions, etc.). She used to work for another similar company so she's familiar with it enough, but I'm still hazy on her concept. I guess once it's up I'll understand it a bit more.

And when I went to high school, a 4.0 was as high as you could go. These days some schools "weigh" the honors and AP classes higher AND they give A+. We never got A+. If I remember correctly, the valedictorian at DS's school last year had some ridiculously high GPA of like 5.3. Funny thing is, she and the other top people were all right around there. #5 was lower because she was into journalism and there were no honors journalism classes. The valedictorian was in honors drama so her A got her a higher GPA.

I was in a car accident recently, the first few days I was not interested in food but after a day or two I wanted ice cream, darn it, I deserve ice cream and pie would surely make me feel better. I managed to pass up the pie but I couldn't make it past the Haagen Daz . I am afraid I gave in. Saturday I went to a potluck and somone brought homemade strawberry ice cream ! To die for ! Fortunately I didn't have control of the container so I didn't eat the whole container. Can't say the same for the Haagen Daz. OK, I've got it out of my system now.

Dagmar, ow!!! I hope you feel better. Are you going to have to cancel any of your dog walks?

Gary, it’s amazing what the world, especially medical science is doing with technology. I bet your daughter’s job is interesting.

Same7, very interesting article. I took the little quiz and basically was a 5 on all the questions.

Bill, at least the candied pecans are a sugar over something good for you. So maybe with the nuts and blueberries, the candy wasn’t as bad as say just munching on the after dinner mints. And yes, B&J still have Cherry Garcia – it’s even in my B&J ice cream cookbook.

Jessica, you look like you had a great time. Especially coming out of the water.

Allison, I’d take the pizza over choc cake too. But then I’d think about the choc cake until I had a taste of it too. I’m glad there isn’t a B&J around me. That would be bad. Or a Haagen-Daz. There’s a Cold Stone that I can see from my office but I HATE their stuff. So I’m safe.

Shannon, I hope the losing state of mind is with you today. Congrats on yesterday.

Shane, you will do much better today. So will I.

Michele, does your DD want you to post the videos of her on YouTube??? You’ll love the mini.

Bargoo, I hope you’re recovering from your accident. Mine was 2.5 years ago and it still freaks me occasionally.

Had my hair trimmed this morning. Why is it so much softer after the salon than at home? I use the same products. I think because they take the time to style it right and I’m in too big of a hurry.

She posted them on her facebook. I'm not comfortable with her posting herself on the www.

Red face Apparently I'm not done yet

It seems the finger, palms, and knee weren't enough for whatever has cursed me with the "clumsies" this week.

I couldn't get my cooler open today because of the finger and wound up yanking on it while partially in the car trunk. Yep, smashed my head on the trunk while simultaneously detaching part of my thumbnail from it's base. ARRRRGHHH!!! C'est tres, tres stupide !

The good news is that I'm quite sure I "fixed" the finger - I was fooling around with it this afternoon and something "crunched" and suddenly it felt a whole lot better and moved more.

All of this hasn't impacted the dog walking schedule. I have a pretty high pain tolerance (and also a pretty empty wallet right now) so the dogs all went out as planned.

I am getting a little tired of all the booboos though. The up side is that DH again made dinner - I don't think he wants me near anything sharp or hot

I am going to sit in my office all evening and read. I think the only thing I can inflict on myself with that is a paper cut or two

Dagmar aka Calamity Jane

P.S. Was it B & J's that had the ice cream with the little chocolate cows in it?

Dagmar - I don't remember chocolate cows... There is Phish Food - chocolate ice cream, marshmallow, caramel, fudge fish. Fossil Fuel -sweet cream ice cream, fudge cookies, chocolate dinosaurs. Imagine Whirled Peace - sweet cream & caramel ice cream, toffee cookies, chocolate peace signs. Turtle Soup - chocolate ice cream I think, cashews, chocolate turtles. Though, it wouldn't surprise me if I was missing one with cows...

Stop banging into things!

Oh, yes, it has come into my house on occasion (as well as real ones in my yard ) Fortunately I can go months without ice cream even though DH always has it in the house.

Dagmar - found it. Bovinity Divinity - milk chocolate ice cream and white chocolate cows swirled with white chocolate ice cream and dark fudge cows—retired in 2001

Jay - love Moose Tracks. And Turtle Tracks, similar but with caramel instead of peanut butter. Both are good. And, Mayfield Ice Creams are lower calorie in their versions. More air, skim milk, etc.

Gary - I've been trailing ice cream porn along with me for weeks now...

Okay, I'm getting drool on my keyboard. Thankfully, I missed Bovinity Divinity. Ice cream is my downfall.

Dagmar, quit beating yourself up--literally! I'm glad your finger is better. You must have dislocated it then popped it back in again during your other accident.

Michele, I hope your DD has a good sense of humor and thinks the video is funny. You never know with teenagers.

Allison, don't those GPAs make you wonder how high a GPA can go? I know that most colleges are doing the + and - thing now, too. Cute, cute kitten you're getting, by the way. Love his little face.

I turned the rental car back in today and left my garage door opener in it so had to drive all the way back to the airport tonight and get it. Not like the airport is that far away, but still it's a trip I didn't want to make. The car repair plus the rental car was under a grand so that's good, but as we near 100K miles, I see more repair bills in my future.

Brought home three 5-week old kittens today--a boy and two girls. Now I've got to think of names. I'll have these guys almost a month probably so I need something to call them other than "kitten."

Hope everyone has a lovely Wednesday with no accidents or (unplanned) ice cream.

Talking I scream, we all scream . . .

. . . and who was it that had an ice cream cookbook?!!!

Pat You have great willpower. I can never leave the ice cream alone if DH brings it home. Fortunately he eats most of it before I even know it's there. If he learns to wash out his bowl and spoon I'll never know (he stashes it deep in the freezer downstairs) and he can keep it all.

Shannon Are you a Ben & Jerry's fan? I've never even heard of most of those. Probably because they don't sell them in Canada.

Sheila How can you ever give the kittens back? I would have 20 cats by now if DH didn't have a strict "2 cats per household" rule. Bummer about the garage door opener.

Jessica You looked like you were really enjoying the challenges of the tri in the pics -

My goal for today is to not hit/mash/squish any new body parts and to avoid hitting any hard surface with anything other than my feet.

Great hump day all!

Dagmar
