Susan - good luck tomorrow! Have a blast!

Dagmar - not a fun start to the day, but you are right - should be all uphill from here.

Megan - I saw the article about the suicide, too. Sad. I wondered what your BF was going to be doing for the oil company - interesting. to you guys down there.

Marie - AT&T has had some growing pains with this new phone & OS. I upgraded my OS last night and have had to do some resets and a few programs won't work now.

Allison - I love Jazz apples, I always get good ones at Trader Joe's. I also like Pink Lady, though I know that they are one of the genetically engineered to be sweeter ones...

More on the oily skin thing, mine is terrible. I don't use much lotion because it is so humid and icky I can't stand it. I itch all the time anyway, in the summer it is terrible. I can use a little in the winter, but not much even then. Except on my arms, which are always dry.

Gary~some days I wish we could just go repossess the things we installed. "Gee, you aren't paying for the windows and doors we installed in your house. I guess you don't like them, we'll remove them for you. Have a nice day." Unfortunately it doesn't work like that!

So we have to apply for a bond for one of our big jobs. Actually it appears to be in every contract we've signed, but this is the first time the homeowner has invoked the clause. OMG the stuff we have to submit! I scanned and emailed over 100 pages of stuff a couple of days ago and now they're wanting a copy of our trust. I think that's another 100 pages (and a lot of work as everything is double sided). At this point they said they'd hold off until they're sure we can be bonded before they ask for it, but I still don't see why they need that. And what's funny is that IF we can get the bond it is the contractor that has to pay for it--not us. I wonder if he'll balk at whatever the cost will be!

Anyway, just a quick stop and back to work. Happy Friday everyone!

Shannon in ATL 06-25-2010 10:57 AM

Allison - bonding is a complicated process. I have to do it on some of my senior level managers and it is a PITA. I imagine you have to do a lot more than we do, as well. Good luck with that - I'm sure the contractor is going to love the extra expense. :dizzy:

I got my run in last night - it felt like running 4.5 miles through a warm bathtub. 93 degrees I think when I started, never rained so no relief from the humidity. I am supposed to do the Peachtree Road Race on 7/4 and I am so not ready... 10k - I haven't done a solid 6 miles since the end of April. Ick. The heat has just been killing me. Getting up early tomorrow for a long run before the heat sets in...

Marie 06-25-2010 11:30 AM

Shannon, you paint such a lovely picture of running 6 miles. A Warm Bathtub? Ick. The AT&T call took 1 hour 16 minutes. The 1st 1 hour 5 minutes were with the level one tech who was so lost, I felt sorry for him. I finally started my HIIT during the call. Luckily I was on hold during all the running parts. The walking ones were much longer between. And when transferred to an engineer, he fixed it in a minute. The other ten were testing things out and chatting. He was laughing when I told him I was on the treadmill because I’d been so bored. I updated my OS on Wednesday and so far all the apps are working. The voicemail was on AT&T’s setup.

Allison, this week you’re making me like my job more and more. Your business sounds like a headache. I’m thinking if the doors are technically yours, you should be able to change the locks.

Good luck, sznn.

Dagmar, yucky way to start the day. At least my poop patrol this morning was with the scooper outside.

It is surprising but I seemed to have made it to work for 5 days straight. At this point it is a record since April. King Prick isn’t here so it is a Great Friday! I saw a beautiful sunrise while DH and I walked the doggies and my elliptical workout is done since I couldn’t sleep. It’s to be in the 80’s (haven’t seen those this year so far) and my pool will be calling my name when I get home.

Best Sunscreens

midwife 06-25-2010 12:31 PM

My derm (how is very opinionated!) recommends Blue Lizard. It's something else. It's very thick and takes forever to rub in and it will pool in my elbows when I'm running, but it works really really good. It's made in Australia, where they have stricter guidelines than we do in the US. My derm says that in Australia, there is a huge public health efforts to reduce skin cancer and kids have to wear hats and sunscreen at recess.

Blue Lizard is listed as a 3 or 4 (recommended). I was pleased to see that Coppertone (my favorite) are mostly 3.

Breathing another sigh of relief as several more payments came in today. Now I have enough to pay the health insurance premium as well as most of our vendors.

And on top of that I had a really nice light lunch and don't feel as if I need to go home and nap.

Speaking of sleeping, I had quite the dream last night. I dreamt I went to the dentist and they made me have all my upper teeth pulled and then she fit me with the most hideous dentures and I looked like I was wearing braces. They wouldn't even let me get implants. Seriously I woke up feeling like I was going to cry! Mind you I have very healthy teeth--didn't get my first cavity until I was 18! I have no idea what spurred that.

sunscreen - off topic

I use a heck of a lot of sunscreen in summer and on my face in winter. I find the La Roche Posay stuff for the face is really good (though sticky). I looked up my "body" sunscreen (thanks for the link Allison) - Banana Boat - and it's not so great. I have the "farmer" tan marks already to prove that.

I'm guessing that, without even trying to order it, Blue Lizard is not available to Canadians. Too bad - it looks promising. La Roche Posay is hideously expensive so I can't really afford it for my entire body.

Anyone know of a good sunscreen available in Canada that doesn't cost $20 per ounce?

Dagmar :sunny:

Dagmar~hoping for a poop free morning for you! And yeah, I thought Banana Boat was better, too. I guess there are a lot of sunscreens that have carcinogens in them. Makes you wonder why...

Marie 06-25-2010 10:28 PM

That list was cool but WOW-WEE on the cost of some of those. I'm with Dagmar, I can't afford the really expensive stuff. I goop it on and go through about 1/2 gallon in a summer.

No such thing as a poop free morning for me Allison . But I prefer the poop to be outside on the ground.

I've been trying to maintian a reasonably healthy diet while here. I had one of those funny moments yesterday morning. I had just fed the dogs their respective types of kibble in their bowls. Then I went to the pantry and started putting corn bran in my cereal bowl. Hmmm. Looks like the human is having a form of kibble too :p

I need to be finished  with this sit soon.

Have a great Saturday all!

The only place I can get Blue Lizard is at a pharmacy. It's definitely not in retail shops around here. A little bit goes a long way. The company will send you samples and you can try it out.

Agh! I'd typed a whole long post and my computer decided to reboot itself for some updates. Darn.

Suzanne, great job on the 1/2!!! :cp:

I've been having some trouble sleeping the past few nights. I wake up, start stressing out about oil spill things and a million thoughts run through my head. Unfortunately I kicked the evening snacking and am now prone to 2am snacking. This is also getting nipped in the bud now.

I'm so sad my Aveeno face 70 sunblock scores so badly! It stays on so much better than other sunblocks I've tried, and doesn't make me break out, but it might be time to try out some other options.

Dagmar, I get told I eat rabbit food all the time. Between the raw veggies at lunch and a few incidents with All Bran...

Allison, I also have teeth dreams! I always dream mine are crumbling or falling out.

Shannon, I hear you on the warm bath feeling. My gym is closed Sunday and I definitely can't let that keep me from working out with how my workout schedule has been lately. I powerwalked ~8.5 miles between 10-12:30 this morning and was just totally saturated in sweat from the start. I'm so glad I planned my route through the park with a waterfountain. My fingers still swelled like crazy, despite hydrating. Does that happen to you in humidity? It's happened to me but never this badly.

Have a relaxing Sunday everyone. :)
