Allison, I leave the top off my '76 Jeep from May through Sept. That way if it is nice, like today, I drive it. If not, I drive my 4 door Wrangler. It has the coolest hardtop. You can remove the section over the driver, over the passenger, or both. Or you can remove the one over the back seat or all of them. And it's EASY!!! except the on over the back seat as the fiberglass is way heavy. But removing the ones over the front seats is removing to two screw/bolt thingies that have a handle and two latches. Some days I do envy DD her convertible mini because at a touch of a button it opens and closes.
And I've been discharged from PT as well. We worked on modifying my strength routine so it doesn't irritate the bicep tendon and how to eventually put removed exercises back in. I love not going since it was an interruption to the workday. Ennay, I'd way rather a Jeep over a Porsche any day. Probably why I have two... Marie |
Just on to ask a question. We are replacing windows in our townhome and are considering Milgard Tuscany or Champion. Anyone know anything about either of them? We put in a Champion sliding door two years ago that I like. The Champion bid is $400 more than the Milgard, though.
I hate making these kinds of decisions. Both have complaint online that I read. Makes me want to grab a candy bar. :( |
SHEILA... I feel sorry for you ;) I am in construction and I think the hardest thing Angie and I ever had to do was pick out replacement windows! The quality and prices on the bids were so far different....at the time it was $4,000 to $10,000...we must have had 10 bids....
I think if I had to do it over again I would ask for references in the area of the homeowners that used each. We love our windows...except for the latches....didn't notice how hard the windows were to open with the sample window...and the slider always leaked until they finally got it right...with my motivation up their .... ;) ALLISON is the window gal around here :) BILL...5 burger choices and not 1 call to me.... SHANNON....SA-WHEET rides! My first car was a '67 Mustang in '69...loved it! Later I had a '74...hated it....Angie wanted one for the longest time...a red convertible believe it or not...about 6 months ago I asked her is she was ready to get rid of her Civic for one...NOPE!...she says the red 'stang days are over for her...saves me some $$$ ;) MEG my grandkids are late too...in fact they aren't even in the oven...but...my dil promises me real soon ;) SZNN...you go girl!!! DAGMAR...I could never have a small popcorn...it's either big or nothing! :D |
Good morning!
In staying OP terms this is my "hump" day :dizzy: - the third  On Plan, where I usually fall  off plan.
It looks good for that not happening tonite though. I have a light dinner scheduled, followed by a :bike2: ride, followed by paper shredding, followed by bed when the paper shredding gets too tedious. I still haven't dealt with some paperwork left over from 2009 :o. It got lost in the pile on the left side of my desk. I tend to put my on-hold stuff in that pile. Some hold! I also found my Chicago trip plan in there, and my attempt at a daily journal. Both projects will get an update when I finish the dog sit. This dog sit is taking on an armageddon-like quality in print. I actually will enjoy it. Probably the last one I spend with the old dog (14 in total for him) and the first of many with the puppy. I feel like a summer camp counsellor. I sent a list of planned activities for the puppy to my client last night - she was happy about that! Oops! Gotta get the weights done and the garbage, green bins, and yard waste put out! Great Tuesday all! Dagmar :bike: |
Getting back to normal here. Fixed dinner at home for what feels like the first time in forever! Cut the grass yesterday for my functional fitness. As it was 95 degrees and it took me 1:25 to cut, edge and clean up I'm thinking that counts. :)
Dagmar - I'm sure you will have fun on the dog sit. you send activity lists to the owners for the puppies? What kind of activities do you plan? Gary - I can understand Angie not wanting to trade her Civic, great car. I'm not a full time convertible person at this point either. Shelia - homeowners reference is a good idea. I've heard of both windows when I worked at THD, but don't know if one is better than the other... Marie & Allison - glad you are released from PT! My uncle drove a Jeep Wrangler when I was young, always had the top and the doors off. I was scared to death. To this day, Jeeps still make me a little nervous. Ennay - Or words like Ferrari... those are pretty. Saw one last weekend down town. Good day everyone! |
Hi everyone! Late to the thread this week. We're all moved in to our new office and it has been kind of a hassle. I had them lower my desk an inch since I am a shorty, but it's not low enough. I wanted them to do 2 inches, but the ergonomics guy thought 1 would be enough. Now I need to get a foot rest again because it took them 2.5 hours to lower my desk one inch and I don't want to deal with having to move all my stuff again. Sigh. It's so dumb, I knew I would need to have it lowered but I wasn't allowed to request that it be lowered before I arrived, and I'm not allowed to do it myself (it's easy enough, just needs a screwdriver and a level).
In other news, there have been a lot of major thunderstorms moving through the area. The tornado sirens actually went off at work yesterday (only for about 5 minutes though). Poor Carter was super scared during a storm last night and would keep whining unless we sat right next to him to comfort him. Meg, I hope your grandchild arrives soon! Shannon, nice cars! Hi everyone else, I can't remember all that's happened already. We're meeting again with our dog sitter in a couple weeks to go over details and set up some trial runs with Carter. I want Carter to be used to her enough that he doesn't freak out when she comes for the long sit. I'm thinking we'll have her come for maybe three daytime visits and one overnight between now and our trip. That way she is here frequently enough that he doesn't forget her, and he gets the chance to try out her being there overnight (which lets us take a weekend trip somewhere not too far away, I'm thinking Cincinnati). |
Sheila~I've never heard of Champion. We used to sell and install Milgard and they do have some good lines, but since we don't sell them any longer I'm not too familiar with them. I'm assuming you're going through a place like Lowe's? Another line similar to Milgard is IWC. They're comparable in price, more like what you'd see in a planned development. We use IWC when doing retrofit windows or for when someone has an older home that needs a window replaced here or there. We mostly do custom homes and use higher end items from Fleetwood, Jeld-Wen or Point Five. But they're much more expensive.
Jessica~sorry about the desk. If your ergonomic guy is any good, he would have measured you before doing only 1 inch over your requested 2 inches. Sounds to me like he isn't so good. Hope you don't get any of the flooding like they've had in OK and AR. I took my Jag in for service this morning. I'm wondering what that will cost. They're doing the 1 year service because that's what the computer recommended. It's only 8 months old, but since I use it for A LOT of short errands, the computer calculates the service based on the number of times it's been stopped and restarted. Like today, after I get the car back, I've got 4 errands to run in a less than 10 mile radius. We had another earthquake last night. We had one Saturday, too. This one was a 5.7 (downgraded from 5.9 originally) and the one Saturday ended up to be a 4.4. Neither of them caused us much concern. I usually just stand (or sit) still and wait to hear something fall. As of yet, we've never had any damage--including the twin quakes in Landers/Big Bear from about 18 years ago (I think they were around 7.8). |
heh...I laugh when I see people with new convertibles here. You can leave the top down what, 2 months max? And then there is so much rain that the plastic window kind just are permafogged.
We have friends who have a convertible..I think its a BMW. They leave it in the garage except on nice days. This is why I am not sure what kind of car it is, I think I have seen it twice. |
Ennay - yeah, a convertible would probably not get used much where you are. Here we are often wearing shorts still into December. Now, maybe shorts with a sweatshirt, but still. :)
DH had a convertible several years ago and he talks about driving with the top down in 35 degrees with the heater blasting. That is when heated seats would be nice. :dizzy: Jessica - sorry about the desk drama. Mine is too high, as well, but it is solid wood and as low as it will go. Ick. I need a footrest. Allison - funny that it calculates you at a year based on your starts and stops. Makes sense though. Hope it isn't too spendy. Glad you guys are okay after the quakes! |
Sheila, when we built our home, Milgard were installed. Overall, they have been good except the one big picture window. The first one leaked and became foggy after a couple years. The second has a problem with the fitting staying in place on the inside. I’m tempted to super glue it. But I can say my DH was VERY impressed with their customer service and the replacement installer.
Dagmar, I’m so jealous of your dog sitting client. I wish you were in my neighborhood. “A list of planned activities”??? Oh how awesome. I am green with envy! Shannon, I’m funny about the top and doors off the Jeep. DH likes them all off, I like keeping the ½ door on. He thinks I’m nuts – you made me see I wasn’t… Jessica, I think you should have them lower it again and have the ergonomics “expert” move your stuff. What a hassle. I like your plans for getting Carter acclimatized to the sitter. My dogs adore their behaviorist/sitter. Allison, use Jeld-Wen more and more. It’s good for my local economy. They’re based where I live. Heck, they own the town. So I got to swim in my pool on Sunday and yesterday. Yesterday I swam laps. It was interesting. The scars from my arm lift are still tight so every once in a while I’d reach too far. Regardless, it was a blast. I can’t do back dives because of my arm scars. :( Last year I couldn’t because of my broken wrist didn’t heal right. I’m counting on next year. ;) No swimming today or tomorrow. Brrrr. High of 60 and north winds. Brrr. Marie |
allinell - man if I had to service my car based on stops and starts I would be in every 2 months.

Arghhh. Our summer weather has fled! Yesterday started out :sunny: but by 11 am there were high winds, which progressed to high winds and clouds! It finally rained overnight, but not nearly enough. Today is cloudy, with a forecast of showers and 50mph winds! Hold on to your hats! I'll need to water the garden later (it's only 40 ish right now) and I may need to wear a raincoat so I don't get soaked from the wind blowing it back on me. DH left Sunday afternoon to go fishing. He planned to be back tonight - which means processing fish.....
Dagmar - your dogsit sounds fun. I assume you keep walking your other clients' dogs in the daytime, and stay with these two at night? Sometimes a change of location does wonders for getting us out of our normal routines. We always try to have someone stay with our cats when we're away. Sure someone could come in and feed them and clean the litter box, but after a couple of days they get really skittzy and have to be resocialized when we get home.... Went to my book club meeting last night - which was a dietary nightmare! Thankfully I'd eaten pretty light all day, but in addition to lovely cut up veggies and fruit there were killer homemade brownies and excellent wine (and I wasn't driving!) Back on the wagon this morning.... |
Dogsit stuff
For those of you who are interested. Others please ignore - we dog people tend to go on and on about our pets/charges.
Little Havi is going to go to a bunch of places with me he normally doesn't get to go - the bank, garden centre, some pet stores, etc. He is also going to play with my nieces on Sunday and visit my house every second evening (if my cats allow it). I'm taking him to the far side of our local filtration plant which has a beach which is a quite wild shoreline and also to the Toronto islands. We are going on a couple of long walks to dog beaches he doesn't normally visit and I'll probably take him to the sailing club where we keep our kayaks. He will also go to the dog wash for a bath (his first) before my clients come back. I'm also putting him in with a couple of groups of dogs he doesn't know so that he gets more exercise and stimulation than he's been getting. My clients do what they can with him at the house but it turns out they don't take him to the dog beach at all. And yes, I'm still walking all of the regular daily dogs. I feel really sad for the older dog because he is no longer capable of getting into the car or walking more than about 100 ft without falling down. Otherwise I'd try to take him along for some of these excursions. I will hang out with him, the cats, and Havi the other nights I don't go home for dinner. Bou is deaf and quite blind but he still responds to my touch so I will try to groom him for my interaction with him. And I buy all of my dogs special treats and toys while I'm sitting with them. I can't really get the cats anything because Havi eats all of their toys! They will get treats and grooming as well. My own cats get two visits a day from a sitter whenever we're away. Having someone stay at the house is not a go with DH - he's convinced whoever stays is going to go through all of our stuff. I had a long job convincing him to let me hire housecleaners! Dagmar :bike2: |
Dagmar~having an old dog around can be difficult. Bou sounds just like Buddy. Blind, falling, breathing problems. He cries when we take Chico for a walk, so we try to get DS to go with us and have him walk Buddy up the street and back--it's about all he can handle.

Dagmar, Havi is going to have a great time. You'll have a friend for life without a doubt. I read my pups your post and they are asking if they can join you. :)
So tonight I sold mine and my DH's ipod touches. So both of them are sold. It's odd not having it but my 2nd Gen iPhone is just fine until the 4th Gen come out a week from Friday. And DH has his running ipod nano until he gets my iphone hand me down. He always gets my electronic hand me downs. This time, he's thankful at least the iphone isn't pink. :) :) Marie |
