That's funny, Ennay--that's what I'm thinking, too. I wish spring would get here. My shoes got soggy today, and I'm wearing a sweater. It's June, for heaven's sake!

The nutritionist I saw last week wants me to get 110 grams of protein in per day. I'm having a heck of a time doing it. How does a gluten-free, dairy-free, non-meat eater do this? I can only down so many plant-based protein powder drinks. Yesterday I made it to 102 grams because I ate shrimp, sardines, and beans in addition to the protein powder. It was a bit more calories than I wanted (1650) to lose weight, and I felt overly full. I really didn't want that protein powder drink at 8:30 pm, but I felt I had to have it to get over 100 grams of protein.

Our 29th anniversary is on Sunday so we're doing some fun stuff that day because Saturday is going to be devoted to yardwork. The slightly warm, wet weather is helping us grow a great crop of weeds. We also have to do two hours of yardwork for my son because that was a Christmas gift for him. He is allergic to everything green and flowering so doing yardwork is difficult for him.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

OK, my main problem with the kindle is that the battery lasts too long. It has been so long since I charged it that I cant find the cord. I am guessing still in a suitcase from my trip to boston. 6 weeks ago.

I didnt want a kindle, but it is handy for a mom on the go because I never know if I will suddenly be stuck waiting somewhere and it is only 1 book to remember.

Sheila - do you do eggs? It's one of the reason I have so many eggwhites. I'll sometimes have scrambled eggwhites with salsa as an afternoon snack.

Dagmar, I’m sorry your DH is giving you trouble. I think others have given you good advice about seeking help for yourself. His depression doesn’t need to lead to yours.

Shannon, I think the intervals make my lungs work harder than a slower steady. I’m able to get more oxygen through the low intensity so I can work harder on the higher. I truly feel it’s increased my lung capacity. As a side benefit it is easier to use my inhaler when I’m doing the low end. :o

Allison, enjoy your rebate. That’s awesome! :carrot:

Pat, there is always the internet for the Apple shopping. ;)

Ennay, you and me both want spring. I really want summer but sun would be an improvement. Oregon hasn’t been fun since the last week in March with a few minor exceptions. At least the weather has a side benefit of increased workouts. :p

Sheila, congrats on the 29th anniversary. :carrot:That is wonderful. Enjoy the celebration.

I priced out the family plan with data for two phones at AT&T.com. Yikes! It’s about $50 a month more than what I’m paying now but only phone currently has a data plan. Hmmm. I will bite the bullet in a few weeks.

Tomorrow DH and heading back over the mountain for a long bike ride. I want to do the entire trail. It's 18.5 miles one way so it should be fun. I did take the time to look for my bike shorts today. The extra cushion sounds appropriate.

Good Morning all!

I'm going to an introductory Pilates (with the machines Pilates) session this afternoon. If I find I like it or it seems it will help with my fitness I will sign up for 3 sessions with a one-on-one trainer. Then I'll probably join a class.

DH and I had another mini-fight last night. I coaxed him out for dinner. It was a really nice Thai restaurant we have been to many times, where it's reasonably quiet with good, mid-range priced food :hun:.

Near the end of our meal two guys sat down at the next table. One answered his cell after a couple of minutes and then talked on it until we left. He wasn't loud or obnoxious or anything but it was a bit invasive.

DH pitched a hissy :tantrum: and declared that he wouldn't go out for dinner any more unless the place was so loud :blah: that he couldn't hear individual conversations. That is his kind of place - loud, cheap, run down and with pretty bad food.

I have decided that I'm going to be a single person as far as going out goes. I like many different things and DH only wants to go to bars. So I'm going to go it alone. He can sit in front of the TV until he congeals :p.

Have a great Saturday all!

Dagmar :dancer:

Dagmar, I'm sorry about your ruined trip out. Your DH definitely sounds like he needs an intervention.

Our bike trip didn't last 38 miles. :( DH got a flat and it took about an hour to fix it. The hole was tiny and we didn't find it the first 3 times dripping water on it. Afterwards, we turned back. So it was a 20 mile ride. My Jeep was being a butthead and decided to chug. While we biked it rested and worked perfectly on the 80 mile drive home. The computer on the Jeep is stupid. Other than the mechanical problems with the adventure we had a great time.

Happy Anniversary Sheila! Hope you had fun!!

Dagmar-- did you enjoy pilates?

Marie-- sorry you all had "issues" but glad you enjoyed it otherwise.

I feel like I'm falling apart sometimes (physically). It seems like since I've turned 40 (which is also when I started losing weight) it has been one thing after another. Every time I get something routine checked-- it ends up not being routine-- every mammogram has turned up "something" which has turned into 2 biopsies (nothing found thank god) and then I had a skin cancer removed in December. I just had my physical and thought I was so healthy and the doctor called and said 1. I am quite anemic 2. my pap was abnormal. For the anemia, I have to take iron for three months and recheck but she was concerned because I don't have periods (hysterectomy) so I shouldn't be anemic. The pap is also unusual because I don't have a cervix so now I have to see a specialist and have a biopsy. Anyone else feel like they're falling apart at the seams (I am now 43....) Sigh.... I hate waiting and I have to wait over a month to see the specialist so I'm going to try to put it out of my mind. She said that my HPV test was negative so IF there is anything, it should be relatively minor and they should be able to freeze it off. Dh is out of the country and I debated not telling him until he returned but I'm a worrier so I told him-- now he's worrying too.....

4rabbit 06-06-2010 02:33 AM

Hi michelle  I'm so sorry to hear about the medical unpleasant surprises.
about the pap: they let you come back for very small irregularities. Also, the tests are known for false positives...often if you get a positive the chance that you have nothing still is quite large. I cannot follow what you tell about the pap, but I had a 3b once and they had to take some stuff off in the hospital. polyclinical thing, drove home after the procedure. The whole point of the pap is that they nip things in the bud.

also you can get anemia from a lot of things, I don't have periods and I have been anemic for my whole life. The exiting thing here is that If your anemia reacts to the iron you might get to fell a lot better!

BTW: I am 51 and I've gotten a lot better health than when I joined 3FC 5 yrs ago. That is what clean living does for you!

 again

Michele Getting older sucks :D! But you have taken charge of your health and are reaping the benefits of losing weight and being fit (even though it doesn't feel like it sometimes :p). I went through a period in my 40's, related directly to menopause, when it felt like "everything was falling apart".

Now, at age 53 I feel physically great! I have aches and pains and I know the skin cancer thing is coming (all that d*mn unsafe tanning in my youth is coming out on my skin now) but I can go outside and walk, :bike2: for miles, take charge of many big dogs all day long, lift :strong: my kayak into the water and paddle it, etc. etc. And I'm still planning on being physically active when I'm in my 90's!

IMHO being fit and at a reasonable weight is totally worth it in the long run.

Mudpie 06-06-2010 06:49 AM

Pilates was exciting!

So I was humbled and challenged yesterday. I went to my introductory session of Pilates, using one of the machines know as "Reformers".

I thought I had really strong legs from all the walking. Ahem :o. I thought I had really strong arms from the dogs/kayaking/weights. Ahem :o.

Even though I was sweating and burning at the end of the introductory session (she did a full hour with me) I was also strangely excited! Parts of my body that I don't regularly use were making themselves known.

I thought I'd be really sore today but I'm not :D. And (although I'm sure this is phychological) my thighs look better :dizzy:.

I can only do so much at home with the equipment I have. This new activity was challenging and I like it! I'll definitely be going back for more - 3 individual sessions in July and then probably a once a week class.

Dagmar :woohoo:

Good Morning Maintainers,

Marie - a 20 mile bike ride is still a pretty good haul - too bad about all the snafu's in your plan.

Michele - Getting older certainly does have its challenges - my biggest complaint is I just don't have the energy I used to. Sorry to hear you have frequent complications that cause such worry...not fun.

What a surprise - it is cloudy with a chance of showers here again this AM :(
It was gloriously sunny yesterday, what happened.

I am off soon for a 20k run - see how it goes, because i had 1/2 bottle of red wine/steak/ chocolates last night. Probably a big old 'what not to do' before race day...will let you know.
I cave on Friday and opened some Bailey's filled chocolates that have been in the storage room since Christmas, think i should bury the rest of them in the garden:o

Back on plan today - that's it!!

Hi all,

Why is it that when you're going to go on vacation, you have to work extra before you go to make sure everything will be ok while you're gone, then probably work extra when you get back too? I worked until 9 pm Thursday, 6:30 Friday (and made a late gym appearance after that - I NEEDED to go!). It felt so good yesterday to actually go to the gym and work out when I wasn't already exhausted from a full day of work, YKWIM? I can't believe it's Sunday already, but I've only got one day of work before I leave to visit my family. I'll fly to my parents in PA, then for the weekend drive to my sis & BIL's outside of DC to throw her a baby shower. Trying to finalize a menu and buy a present online to ship up there today.

My parents got some good news - my dad was offered a job at a school north of Long Island. They almost had to accept a job across the country in WA, nice location, but they didn't want to move so far from all of their family and friends (but current work situation is so toxic they felt they must move rather than stay). They are much happier with the location of this job, and the shorter move, only ~3 hours from where they are now.

Dagmar, sorry DH is so difficult. I agree that you can't let him drag you down, too. My BF and I also have somewhat different social preferences, and we've worked out some but I've learned to deal w/ some also. He doesn't like to go out to my favorite restaurants, so he takes me for my birthday and that's it. He likes to go out to happy hour with people he knows, and I don't like it so I only go once in a while to be social with his friends. Glad you enjoyed your Pilates session!

Michele, I think I might have had one regular pap in my life. One. (This began when I was very young, just lucky I guess.) The follow-up stinks but as rabbit said the point is to catch things early, before they are a problem. It's not fun but also not a big deal.

The oil still isn't here yet, but the wind/weather patterns are all the sudden pushing it faster in our direction. Yesterday BF and I went to the tiki bar, sat under a thatched-umbrella table, and enjoyed the beach. I took a picture.

Mudpie 06-06-2010 04:10 PM

Megan I saw a clip on the news of Pensacola (?) where people were picking up globs of oil with their hands. A man was crying as he talked about living there all his life and how his kids wouldn't have that beach any longer.

So ugly and so unnecessary. I hope BP finally has it under control with their latest salvage effort.

Dagmar

sznn 06-06-2010 04:51 PM

That oil spill is a horrific disaster - i can barely watch any of the coverage, it is so depressing :(

On to the good news...20K = owned!!
It wasn't entirely pretty - but i did it! Maybe i will avoid the 1/2 bottle of red wine the night before for the next one.
Feeling pretty tired and lazy now for the rest of my Sunday.

Marie 06-06-2010 05:52 PM

Sheila, I’d have to say I definitely feel like my body doesn’t recovery as easy once I hit 45. Your issues are medical, mine are more physical. Of course mine are due to decades of obesity.

LOL, sznn, on burying your chocolates in the yard. Perhaps you’re garden will gain the weight. Great job on your 20K. And hevk, if you hadn’t tried the ½ bottle of wine before the race, you wouldn’t have known.

Megan, ah the beach pic was so inviting. I want to jump in the waves.

DH and I did lots of outdoor work this morning. There was a 90% chance of rain and it didn’t! so we planted the 8 new shrubs, planted my 3 foot high tomato plants outside because they were sick of waiting for spring to arrive. We did buy lots of plastic to make a temp greenhouse if needed.

I also did the walk/jog intervals again today. I’m really enjoying it. Turns out I actually jogged a whole mile through the workout (of course not in one shot). I’ve never, ever jogged 1 mile in a day or probably a week in my whole life. Wow.
Marie

:carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::c arrot::carrot:

ETA: There is no space in the :c arrot: - when I go to edit it the space isn't there - it should be another dancing carrot! Just imagine it!
