Post-holiday blahs?
I'm feeling the post-holiday let down. Not much up in January and I'm feeling very unmotivated to get going on losing the holiday poundage and getting back into the weights/yoga schedule in the mornings. I'm so tired in the winter it's hard to do anything after dinner except long for bed.
Anyone have any ideas for shaking off the slump? Dagmar (needs a :kickbutt:) |
This is a tough time of year, for sure! It's dark, cold, and dismal and there doesn't seem to be much to look forward to (except Valentine's Day -- I can't believe I saw V-Day candy in the store this morning!)
What I'm doing is changing up my exercise routine to get out of the gym slump. For some reason, my eating seems to fall in line with my exercise, so when exercise is spot on and exciting, then eating on plan seems easier. So I'm planning on some new exercises next week and switching things up. Sometimes setting fitness goals can help. In the food department, I went through my recipes and am making some on-plan cold weather comfort food. Today I got the ingredients for spaghetti squash Alfredo and ham and bean soup. Otherwise, I just try to keep busy because I get into trouble when I'm bored. Hang in there! We can tough it out until spring. |
I am right there with you Dagmar.
Except for me Jan is bad but Feb is a nightmare. New routines & foods are a great idea. For me I am working on doing some house renovations. Cleaning out the junk "room" always makes me feel better. A new coat of paint in my will be keeping me busy this weekend. If I can I usually like to plan a trip for early March, then I come back and its almost spring. Thanks to the economy I don't think thats going to happen this year. |
Each season has it's own challenges. Changing things up is always my first options when I feel the "blahs" coming on.
I had been feeling that way the last 2 weeks or so, but Monday the new YMCA minutes from my house (YAY!!!!) is scheduled to open and so I will have my classes on different days in new surroundings and I am SO pumped about it. |
Dagmar, I feel you. It's so hard to be motivated to work out in winter, especially if you do a lot of your exercise outside. I hate running on a treadmill but it's been too icy and snowy to run outside. Finally our temps are above freezing though so I'm crossing my fingers that the sidewalks will be clear by tonight.
What I've been doing is focusing on healthy comfort foods (like soups) and sleeping an extra hour. True, I pretty much go to bed after dinner, but at least I don't feel quite so blah. |
Well, I'm busier in January than I was in December I think....
I have started a new session of my Precision Nutrition weight lifting and nurition program, and that will help me get over the dark cold weather with no fun holiday activities. |
