Sorry to hear your frustration, it is valid. I hope I attached the above link correct. The research mentioned gives me strength when I am struggling.
As a former obese person, I maintain 135 pounds on about 1200-1400 calories a day, more days at 1200 than less. According to conventional wisdom I should be losing weight and I am struggle on the maintaining part.

I am 51 years old and have been struggling this year with mean-o-pause.
I am all over that place in my journey right now, One day I am in the I will lose this stubborn 5 pounds, the next I am okay maybe I just need to accept it. I have no magic answer for you but offer my understanding.

Thank you so much for your validation.
I've read and agree with that information.
A thread on another weight-loss forum I frequently visit posted that link,
and, in fact, the contents of that link is why I joined this forum.
I'm thrilled to find some people with maintenance similiarities.

Good morning!

Here are the LP shelves I got DH for Christmas. They look great with all the records on them. Of course now that I see them in place I realize the full folly of moving them solo...

More sore today than yesterday - did some treadmill work when I got home to stretch out after the weights and shelf assembly, and then found myself thinking wishfully of rails in my bathroom to get up and down from the potty. Probably some yoga today.

Dagmar - good job with the cookies!

Iris - Wow, almost done with coursework. Cool! That must be a relief!

Jessica - the swim class sound great! Yeah, might be hard with food with that timeframe. You could also try to move your lunch and snack a little later and eat dinner after you are done? Though if you are like me you might be starving by lunchtime!

Pat - there is a pair of sennhaiser sport headphones that have the little in-ear piece like you are talking about with DHs hearing aids, and yes they are expensive. Look comfy though. Glad you got your coffee even with the power out!

BrightAngel - vent all you want. I do it all the time.

I am trying a coffee free day today. Or, coffee free early at least - I'm trying for only one cup after dinner and DSS's bath. Right now it is hot cinnamon green tea. Not sure what my logic was when I came up with this plan this morning... I've already started looking covetously at the instant coffee in my drawer. I think it had something to do with the protein chocolate milk I added in with breakfast and some idea of reducing other calories to add in more protein.

good day everyone!

Hi all,

I was lurking in the weightlifting forum yesterday and saw Mel had entitled this month's chat thread "Only 24 days to work out 'til Christmas!" and gosh, did I hear that! When I walked into the gym yesterday and the trainer asked me "what's up" I almost answered just that: "Only 24 days..." but thought better of it. Does that make me a dork? Fitting in my workouts for next week and the following week will take some juggling on my part, but I'll take them one day at a time and get them in there in some version.

It is very windy, rainy, and stormy here! I've got some quinoa, lentil, and chicken soup planned for dinner - warm and comforting - and brought some Tazo awake tea for the afternoon at my computer. It's a perfect day for tea, though early bedtime with a book and comfy blankets will have to wait until after my workout! Abs and running are on the docket today.

Shannon, whew, no wonder you're sore! When you do yoga, do you have a video you follow? I've been thinking I need a stretching component to my workout, but while I used to use the yoga shows on FitTV a while back I don't get FitTV on my current cable. Do you have any recommendations?

Bright Angel, what I love so much about this forum is that we can talk about such a broad range of things, from the little nitty gritty bits about daily weight loss maintenance to the larger scale picture about what's going on with our bodies, based both on scientific info and our own experiences. We all respect each other's opinions and have a sympathetic ear. Aww, 3fc love!

Dagmar, great job with the cookies!

Hi Iris, glad you checked in. Hurrah for being done with coursework!

Jessica, that is tough. I'd suggest something like what Pat suggested - maybe heavy snacks, half meal, or light dinner early, around 4:30-5:30, then the rest of your meal or snacks when you get home.

Have a good "hump" day everyone!

Just a quick check-in today.

I started the day with a carb fest. Ugh. Totally undid my 2 mile run.

Buddy is doing well today. He got himself up and out of bed by himself and moved himself into the living room where I ended up feeding him. Still a good appetite. After breakfast and a rest he decided the need to go outside bud didn't want to navigate the doggie doors, so I opened them for him, waited 15 minutes and let him back in. After 10 minutes inside, he decided to go out through the doggie doors himself for another 10 minutes or so. It give me hope that his nsaids are working, although he sure stumbled around last night like a drunken sailor.

I'm "starting" my Christmas shopping today. Basically that means making a list of who needs presents (birthday presents also as I have a slew of those). Then this weekend, I'll be buying gift cards to cover all those "presents" and Christmas cards to put them in. I'll mail all of this because they're all out of state. Then I need to pick up a few things for the kids and I should be done. Does that leave me time to do some baking?

Re the pre-swim feedings - the only time I've ever had an issue with the 5:30pm regular dinner trying to come up during the 7:30pm workout is when it's "sprint night". Just general back-and-forth stuff doesn't seem to be a problem as long as I haven't eaten to the point of being quite full. :P

I'm also interested in yoga videos ... I have Rodney Yee's AM and PM yoga and I'm going to start there but people are asking me what I want for Christmas and this might be a good thing to hand them!

I have those Rodney Yee videos, and also one called Yoga for Everyone (or something close to that). I like RY's better, though I've not done them for awhile. I should investigate doing more yoga as I know it helps with stiffness. Maybe after the first of the year. There are 2 yoga studios close by, plus it's offered 1-2x/week at my gym, and I see the local university is offering a class next semester as well, so plent of choices.

THis is turning out to be a hugely busy, stressful week, both at work and home. I did make myself go do some cardio last night - which of course turned out to be a good thing. DH had turned my kitchen into cookie central. I had dinner and retreated to my craft room and finished up some Christmas bazaar things and watched Biggest Loser. Since my MIL died, DH has taken over her tradition of sending everyone pfeffernause (German spice cookies). The difference is that she bought hers (high quality delicious ones, but still purchased) and he bakes them - over 200 cookies. I decided at the beginning that it was something that was his, and I don't get involved. he does clean up well, but he sure drags out a lot of stuff.

Had this open over an hour, I'd better post it and get back to work.

Megan & ICU, on the yoga question - I used to do the Exercise TV videos, but they have pulled a lot of them off of On Demand recently. A lot of the are available on www.exercisetv.tv - some of them are even available for free streaming. I like Tom Morley, all of his are good. I also like Megan Townsend - she has an AM yoga, a cardio yoga and a stress buster yoga that are nice. I had recently found a "No Sweat Yoga" with Maura Barclay but it is gone from the tv and not available on the website... Recently I have been using various routines from my Yoga Journal (they have a featured workout sequence each month), and getting the Yoga Journal & Everyday Yoga podcasts - there are a lot of free ones out there. I like the Rodney Yee videos - they used to be On Demand, I've asked for the videos for Christmas.

Pat - sorry your week has gotten so hectic! And I think it is great that your DH sends out cookies.

Allison - glad Buddy is doing well. And sounds like a good plan for your shopping. i think it is very inconsiderate of people to have kids around major holiday - I have several in my family as well.

Pffernussen and gingerbread! yum yum YUM! Dagmar, your will power over that gingerbread is a true inspiration to me. I've been debating making a batch of my favorite cookies that my mom used to make - they're gingery/spice type cookies with a thick creamy vanilla icing from a 1950's era Betty Crocker recipe... the only way I can consider this is if I keep maybe half a dozen and immediately give the rest away!

Well, that's my contribution to the cookie porn!

Sorry Dagmar, no trading..... I don't have the energy to break in another one. And I'm sorry for porn, on avoiding the whole plate.

Pffernusse = "Pepper nuts" is the translation from German - they are little cookies with lots of spices and anise... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfeffernüsse

Thanks Iris! I googled it but didn't get anything with
pics, only different recipes (one with coffee?) - hadn't made it to Wiki yet. Those look fabulous...

On that note, I got my yoga done after all (20 min podcast on hip openers) and just had the best yogurt concoction ever... DH went to Whole Foods today and bought lots of fruit, so I had ff French vanilla Stoneyfield Farms yogurt (prefer lf, but it was out) with arils, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries & Bear Naked Fit Triple Berry Crunch granola. Fantastic...

Good night all!
