Default Well, I had it...

...My first outright mean comment. Totally unprovoked from someone I used to like. Used to....as in before she opened her mouth Friday.

I was at a basketball game here in town, and this woman I've known since I've lived here walked up to me and said:

Her: "Mindi! Are you still losing weight? How much more are you going to lose?!"

Me: "I'm not losing anymore...I stopped at 140. I've actually probably gained a little the past few weeks."

Her: "Good. You need to gain more. You know you looked good at first, but now you look too thin, like you're sick."

Then she just walked away.

Can you say "jealousy"?

Bet you anything that she's overweight herself.

Many of us have remarked how weight loss affects friendships. We lose some old friends, we gain some new friends. Try not to let the snarky comments get to you -- they say a lot more about the person making them than about you!

Jealousy. People just can't handle it. They see what you have done and are continuing to do and it makes THEM feel inferior.

BTW, please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not so sure I would be giving out exact numbers. Yet alone to someone as ahem, not so swift, as this woman. It's nobody's business. Let alone HERS.

When people comment on what they think is best for me, and yes many have said, still to this day, "OMG, I can't believe you've lost even more weight", regardless of whether I have or not, I just say something like, "Well yes, I'm still eating quite well and exercising. Some weeks I gain, some weeks I lose. Whatever happens, happens."

I am proud of you. I only wish I had the success you have had. As long as you are happy of your progress what difference does anyone else make.

I totally don't want to highjack but a woman I have known several years now (we are on okay terms but not really friends) came over to me last week at the park and said, "You know what you have become??? A skinny B*." I answered her, "No, that is you, I am just a wannabe." When she walked away I was like...WTH?

Was that a compliment or insult?

I was the same way and then I realized, hello, nobody, NOBODY is giving me THEIR exact numbers. Why oh why do I feel the need to give MINE? It's a weird thing. Lose a lot of weight and people have no problem asking personal questions and making totally and completely inappropriate comments.

I never offer numbers. I usually say, "well, when I started I didn't really do the whole scale thing so I haven't really kept track.." One woman actually went so far as to say.."well, what size were you in and are you in now?"
