Jessica, I hope your doggie is better soon.

I watched the video yesterday and tried out the Pedi-paws thing on my dogs. Lucy was a little hesitant , but eventually got used to it. Molly slept through it and didn't mind a bit. I did notice that after I finished, they both clacked less on my wood floors.

I had planned on just working out every other day but felt compelled last night to walk on my treadmill at home. The rest of my family hates "Nancy Grace" show, so it gives me a good excuse to walk and watch it in my bedroom.

My new gym partner called this morning and we went together to the gym for the first time. It did slow me down cause she can't keep up yet. She's 20 years younger than me (and 75 lbs. heavier) but will probably be kicking my butt at exercising soon. She wanted to eat at Subway on the way home and I relented since I had skipped breakfast. I had a turkey wrap with veggies (no cheese) and light mayo. She had a footlong sandwich with cheetos , 2 cookies and a regular coke. She believes she can lose the weight by exercise alone!

Meg, I can't get that mental pic out of my head about the braless lady at your gym. There is a lady at my gym that chews on the collar of her shirt the whole time she works out (it kinda grosses me out especially since her shirt is always drippppping with sweat from the stairmaster!) I actually purposefully try to find a machine that is not facing in her direction.

  :lol3: Allison, that cracked me up! The person in the cubicle next to me probably thinks I'm crazy. You know what I want? A "bra" for my bouncy flabby thighs! Sometimes when I run I can feel all that flabby flesh jerking up and down and it hurts!

Yeah! I know what you mean. I've been wearing Underalls compression shorts when doing my treadmill running and that certainly helps (but I wouldn't be caught dead in public wearing those--unless I put on a pair of running shorts over the top).

I want some Underalls! Where do you get them?

Just responding to your comments about all of us becoming maintainers. When I joined 3FC in the summer of 07' I visited many forums and tried to find a place that felt comfortable. I was staying on plan and working out, but would go 3 months and see the scale move (maybe) half a pound. I always ended up lurking in Maintainers Chat. I did become active in the Exercise! chat room for a while. Amanda was so helpful, and at least I could share real accomplishments (though not weight loss). But, since I send all my food and exercise data to my trainer every day, and the changes were so small (incrementally anyway), I just went back to my lurking in Maintainers Chat for inspiration.

:carrot: A funny thing happened as I continued to work out with my trainer, stay POP, and lurk among the challenges and successes in Maintainers Chat - my metabolism finally started to kick in (though I'm still on the same thyroid meds). About 6 months ago everyone suddenly started to notice a real change in my body (smaller clothing may have helped). I had long ago stopped weighing in - orders from my trainer!!! Now I've started to weigh once or twice a month.

:wl: Also, I now sweat like I never thought possible. Today I told my trainer that leaving sweat marks with my butt when I sat down was just too gross - he just laughs and loves it. It's been 18 months and although I've lost only 33 pounds, I have gone from size 20/22 to 14/16. I can run a 12 minute mile - when I got started I couldn't even walk fast enough to keep my heart rate up without my knees hurting (they were damaged in a car accident many years ago), so it was elliptical only. By building muscle, balance and flexibility I am doing things I thought were history for me. One of my goals was to go ocean kayaking during our yearly trip to New England. Last September my DH and I had the best time kayaking in Rockport, Mass. And, I have set a new goal for this coming summer - para-surfing.

I feel like I know all of the 3FC maintainers. Since I was always looking in form behind this screen, you're all like the members of an interactive reality show that has given me the inspiration to stick with this major shift in my lifestyle.

Just wanted to let you all know how much you contribute... without even knowing. Thanks a bunch! :thanks:

You know what? They're UnderArmor's not underalls. I guess underalls were something from the 1970's which are probably a lot like Spanx are now. I really don't remember. Anyway, you can get Under Armor at just about any sports store (or online).

You mean, people read what we write without us knowing?

Just kidding, I'm so glad you've found inspiration here and even gladder that you are delurking. Sounds like you have some smashing habits in place. Congrats on all your successes, and, hey, stick around and post often!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! My gym gives out towels for workouts and I tend to let myself sweat up a storm and I just use the towel to wipe up my butt (and back) sweat before I move to the next machine! One word of advice? Wear black--not gray. You REALLY see sweat on gray!

All that great, gross gym stuff . . .

. . . that I miss by working out at home. I've been reminiscing about when I did go to the gym and just remembered another really funny incident.

A couple of you have mentioned things seen and heard at the gym. Well my story is about another sense - smell :p!

I noticed that there was always a guy working out with free weights who had no people around him - ever. I didn't think much about it :?: until the day I decided to use a machine in his general vicinity.

Turns out this gentleman was enjoying his gym time alone because he farted  every time he heaved a weight. Or so it seemed by the stink coming from his direction.

I still to this day don't know if he was aware of this and using it to get his own space at the gym. He was welcome to it!

I'm done for the night and going to sit with the cats and watch the first of my Western Civilization DVD's. Mishka is a keen student, Mudpie not so much. And Mud is probably really tired from taking an entire garbage bag of shredded paper and throwing it all over my office. I need to get a nanny cam  to see what she does during the day.

Have a great night all!

Dagmar :sunny:

Welcome Goldia!
I am so impressed with your progress at the gym. You are doing awesome!!

I often think I wish I could see what my furbabies do while I'm gone. Some days they obviously do nothing while other days many things are disturbed/thrown on the floor.

I did the salsa dancing class again at the gym. It is so much fun even though I feel so uncoordinated and like a fish out of water! I'm going to try to go to more classes as it passes the time so much better. I get bored from doing the same thing over and over. I also bought Julian Michaels 30 day shred. Has anyone done it? I've read great reviews-- it sounds like a great workout for days I really don't feel like going to the gym...

JulieJ08 01-06-2009 10:54 PM

Goldia, that's an inspiring story. I'm glad your metabolism recovered, that's exciting. :)

paperclippy 01-07-2009 09:04 AM

Welcome Goldia! Please stick around the chat thread, we'd love to have you!

Dagmar - Maybe the poor guy can't help it and is embarrassed that he smells so bad!

Michele - I would love to have a webcam watch my dog all day! My guess is that he does the same thing he does when we are home though -- sleep on his dog bed, sleep in the sunny spot by the window, and sit by the front window keeping an eye on things and barking at the neighbors.

My butt has been thoroughly kicked by doing total body sculpt with Gilad on Monday and Tae Bo on Tuesday. Seriously - my butt is so sore!

For those of you who do workout DVDs, who are you favorite instructors and why? DH likes Gilad because he's one of the most "manly" instructors so he doesn't feel goofy doing his moves. We also laugh constantly at Gilad's favorite phrases, like, "If you're not feeling this, I don't know what you're feeling!" Billy Blanks is kind of weird, because I like how he comes up to the camera and says stuff like, "Hit my hands!" but at the same time he bugs me with all the psychobabble, and it's embarrassing to count out loud in front of my TV at home. In any case I like them both better than some of the others, like Sharon Mann.

Megan1982 01-07-2009 09:47 AM

Morning all,

I'm happy to say that for the past two days of my workouts I've been feeling much more in shape than last week - able to go back to my pre-Christmas weightlifting and even pushing myself weights-wise, and my cardio is almost back to what it was. My weight is now bouncing around 147-148, only 2 lbs above my pre-Christmas weight. I'll get back there... SOON!

Dagmar, hmm.... maybe creating an "odor" about me is a way to get the guys who hog the weights and then hit on me to stop doing both of those things! I was surveying the gym yesterday and it was sad. Women on every single cardio machine. Men in the weight section. No overlap (except for ME!)

My friend's BF does that if a woman tries to hit on him at a bar and she won't go away... :o

Jessica, I'll bet while your gone your dog is sleeping on the guest bed or your bed, where he knows he shouldn't! lol. I've never actually worked out to Gilad, but I always find him amusing when I flipped through the channels and catch him. Sadly I don't get FitTV at my new place. I do miss it. I didn't do the workouts that often but I liked the nutrition shows, body challenges, cooking shows etc.

Meg, I'm sitting here with my arms folded over my chest in imaginary pain right now. OWWW!!!

Lily!!! There you are! I don't know what to say about your gym partner. I hope she realizes that her workouts won't do a whole lot of good if she keeps eating like that.

Goldia, I'm also laughing at your trainer's response to the butt marks. He sounds like a good trainer! Para-surfing sounds like a great goal for this summer!

Have a happy "hump" day everyone!

alinnell 01-07-2009 09:56 AM

My workout this morning was hard! Same one I've done the past two days, but my body protested this morning. It probably had something to do with a bad night's sleep. I still finished 3 miles in 45 minutes, but twice I reduced the jogging speed to walking.

The diet portion is going very well. My calories are staying around 1200 and with the exercise I should be seeing a drop soon. I've stayed away from the candy jar at work for two whole days!

I love most of The Firm instructors. Allie, Alison, and Kelsie are my favorite instructors. Good transitions, not much chitchat and easy to follow.

I used to like Leslie Sansone, but sometimes I just want to say "Shut up already!!" when I'm working out
