Hi everyone,
I have been very busy this past week. I'm ready for things to settle down and get back to healthy eating and exercise. We've just had birthday parties for Shelbey, for my youngest grandson Patrick, and for granddaughter Raegan, plus hosted a large cookout and fireworks show here at our house. My eating definitely hasn't been OP. I did spend all day Sunday doing a ton of yardwork and gardening.
During the day Friday, Molly had a seizure and I ended up having an emergency visit to the vet. He did say that since it is her first seizure that I am to just monitor her and wait and see if it ever happens again. It sure scared me though.
DH is now gone to have new tires put on my car. Apparently when I skidded back in the winter before hitting the deer, it left a bald spot on all 4 tires.
I did hear from my son on the 4th and he is doing OK.
DH goes back to work this afternoon. So No Excuses for me to not haul myself back to the gym and get my eating back to 100% OP.

Lily - How scary about Molly! I hope she is okay.
Shane - you look great in those pics! Is your GF the one in the first picture with you? She's pretty hot!
I am totally zoned out so even though I just read everyone's posts I can't remember what you all said anymore, so I will just say hi to everyone instead! :hi:
Things are going pretty well over here. Food has been mostly on plan, but also larger portions than I probably should be having. On the other hand, I read something that said that if I don't eat enough my thyroid function might get worse and I really don't want my symptoms to come back, so I guess as long as I'm not gaining and I'm feeling good, I don't need to cut back much. I still want to get rid of these five pounds but all my clothes fit so it's not like I'm dying to be slimmer.
My biggest accomplishment recently -- my wrists are now feeling good enough that I can play my violin again! Only for about 5-10 minutes at a time, but still. It feels great. I haven't played in three years. Previous to this issue with the wrists I had been playing pretty much constantly since I was six years old except for maybe a couple months during a summer break here and there. I'm glad that my skill seems to be coming back pretty quickly though, even if I need to build up some more strength in my fingers.

I just told her you said that and she said thanks
(so yes, that is my GF... the blonde chick is my friend Hillary)
And thanks for saying I look great, too!
Oh... my gf also plays violin. And thats awesome that you are starting to play again.

In what is truly a miracle, the gym actually cleaned the drinking fountains yesterday! But seeing how clean the were only reinforced how incredibly filthy disgusting dirty they were before. I had thought maybe the plastic was just discolored, but no, it's as white as snow now, so that was just ick and grunge and who knows what else coated on it. I cannot believe I drank from those disgusting things. I have absolutely got to start bringing my own water bottle!
Also, even though I swear I am going to start bringing my own water bottle from now on, can I suggest some drinking fountain etiquette:
1. Please keep your distance. It is not necessary for your mouth to actually touch the fountain.
2. If you are refilling your water bottle, use the short fountain. Let people drinking from the fountain use the tall fountain--they don't have to bend over as far and you don't have to hold your arm up as high.
Dara Torres definitely has a way intense workout regime, but then she is training for the Olympics. But her dedication is impressive. Yesterday, as I was working out and feeling whiny about some of the stuff my trainer was telling me to do, I thought about Dara Torres. I'm sure she doesn't whine to her trainer. I'm sure she really pushes herself to do the hard exercises because she knows they increase her strength and ability, whereas I always just want to be done with them. My favorite exercises are the easy ones and those just aren't doing anything for me.
DGAdDawg: Bummer that you are sick. It's so frustrating when things you can't control, like being sick, prevent you from working out. But your trip sounds awesome.
Shane: Wow, if your GF is the one in the bandanna, you guys are one hot couple! I'm glad she's gotten a little more supportive about your PT career. And now, to demonstrate my geographic ignorance...where is St. Augustine?
Megan: I love the idea of making watermelon pickles, but I don't know what I'd do with all the rest of the watermelon. I had some once that were made with lots of cinnamon and were tinted bright red. Are yours made with cinnamon? That flounder sounds great.
lilybelle: When I was growing up, we had a cocker spaniel that had epilepsy (apparently it is a common condition among cocker spaniels). We were able to control it very successfully by giving her pills; she was perfectly fine and rarely had seizures.
paperclippy: How impressive that you've been playing the violin since you were six, especially that you've kept up with it in adulthood (I gave up all my musical instruments when I got to college). I'm sure you must miss it now that your wrists have prevented you from playing.

Lily-- I know how scary that must have been for you!
We've had an epileptic dachshund who did well for years taking medications as needed.
One of my current dogs, a doberman, has recently started having periodic seizures. The vet has said not to do anything unless they get worse or more frequent. I worked for vets for many years and epilepsy among dogs is a very, very common condition.
Paperclippy--- I've never heard that about eating enough being tied to thyroid function. I have Grave's Disease; great-- now I have an excuse to eat-- thanks!!

LOL Michele - I don't know if it's true or not, but I read something that said when you are fasting or starving (which, I suppose, we're not doing, but who knows what the body is thinking?) the rate of conversion of T4 to T3 slows down to slow down your metabolism and help you survive a famine. Apparently T3 is the stuff that has more of an impact on your symptoms, so even if you are taking T4 (Synthroid or the like) if your conversion rate slows down you may not have enough T3 to alleviate symptoms. I'm totally not a doctor though, so don't take anything I say too seriously! It does seem like an excuse to eat though.

So, after my rant earlier about the drinking fountains at the gym, I still completely forgot to bring a water bottle with me for my workout today. And it was hot in there; I needed it. So it was back to the disgusting fountains.
The abs on all those women are amazing. And Dara Torres really proves that what they say about swimmers having an advantage if they have a little body fat is just a load of bull. It doesn't look there's an ounce of fat on her body anywhere. Maybe if you're swimming long distances in really cold water, body fat comes in handy, but clearly not if you're a sprinter. The next time someone tells me that swimmers are pudgy compared to other athletes, I'm pulling out a picture of Dara Torres.

Good morning everyone!
I found out this morning that my grandmother is very close to dying. I really didn't know her that well, but I know she has suffered immensely through the last five years and that if I was in her position, I'd want to either get drastically better or just ...go.
Yesterday, while at the gym, I met this guy who said he was training every single muscle group the max every day. THAT can't be healthy! I told him he was overtraining and that he could injure himself (not to mention he must be sore as heck every day) and he said he didn't care; it was the only way for him to get bigger and stronger. Guys (no offense in case Gary is reading this ) can be idiots sometimes
In preparation for my photo shoot, I am trying to eat less than 1,500 SUPER CLEAN calories a day for the next two weeks (yeah, I postponed it until the end of the month because I felt I was not ready, but I SWEAR I will NOT postpone it anymore!) and be extra diligent about working out. I have a friend who used to do figure competitions and is giving me all sorts of advice. I'd like to do a figure competition one day.
Barbara - I agree that the line about swimmers having body fat as an advantage is BS. However, in my opinion, most swimmers are pretty lean, aren't they? They have to follow a pretty strict swimmer's diet; I know most athletes probably have dietary requirements of some sort, but I'm familiar with the swimmer's diet since I dated a competitive swimmer in high school. (OH! They're also required to shave EVERYTHING for aerodynamic purposes )
BTW, you are so right about the water fountains. YUCK! I hate when people are so inconsiderate of others.

Hi everyone,
Molly hasn't had any more seizures. We're just gonna monitor her and see how she does. She's acting totally normal now.
Lacy got a job at Pizza Hut. She starts work at 4PM today. I really didn't want her to get a job with upcoming surgeries in the horizon, but she didn't care. She said "it makes me feel like a normal teenager to have a job". Anyway I hope she likes her job. I worked at Pizza Hut for a short while in college.
I'm back on Plan with my eating. I intend to go to the gym and workout everytime I have to take Lacy to work. Since she only has her driver's permit, I have to take her to and from work (and fortunately it's 15 min's away from home and very close to my gym). I've kinda given up on Lacy and Shelbey ever wanting to work out anymore. They seem great at making excuses why they don't want to hit the gym with me anymore. I may drop them off my membership and save me some money.
Oh, I forgot to mention that last week I bought a new big-screen plazma TV. DH is the one that wanted it, but I love it too.
Shane, prayers for your grandmother and I hope she gets better or goes peacefully . I know where you are coming from. When my mother was terribly ill with liver failure we prayed for the same thing.

Shane,
Let me pass along prayers for your grandmother as well. I saw both of my parents suffer for years and it is terrible.
Lily,
That is great that Lacy got a job! I hope she likes it! I can't get my older dd to go to the gym with me either. We had added younger dd on the plan but she never went so we dropped her. Now she says she wants to go again so we may switch them out.

Barbara, I have two water bottles in my gym bag at all times, and in the summer I leave the bag in the car all the time - don't want the excuse of "I didn't bring my stuff" When I get home I swap out the sweaty clothes for fresh ones, and put the bag right by the front door, and it goes back in the car then next time I go out of the house. In winter it's more of an effort of course. The water obviously would freeze, but you wouldn't believe your shoes when they've sat at -20F all day! Brrrr. I bring the bag into my office.
Sorry to hear about so many people with ailing parents/grandparents. It's hard, even when someone has had a good long life. My FIL died in March at the age of 95, the last of our parents. Now I'm noticing so many people of my generation having serious illnesses, etc.

Just popping in to say hi...
Still feel crummy. Yesterday was bad. I took a DayQuil and made it til llunch at work and gave up. I tried to go to the minor medical clinic to get a z-pack or whatever. They told me since I only had $3 towards my deductible, it'd be $180 to see someone!! Um, no. So I begged the pharmacist for something to relieve the pressure and congestion. He gave me Mucinex-DM...I then went to Boy's place and spent the afternoon in his bed dozing off and on to a "First 48" marathon. I'm obsessed w/that show...esp. the Memphis episodes. Slightly twisted, I know.
Today I can breathe. I actually felt worlds better this morning. But this afternoon I crashed. I feel like I've been hit by a truck. So tired. I'm not congested, but I still feel stuffy and my ear is clogged. argh.
I don't understand my insurance policy...I just want to go to the doctor!!!
I have to clean up my kitchen. it is driving me bonkers. Then I will make some soup and pass out.
Hopefully I'll be much better in my next check in!
