POP yesterday! Yeah! No after-gym snack, instead I ate dinner right away, and I added a snack of oat bran pita bread with homemade hummus. I'm proud to say I didn't even have to think hard about not having one of the brownies sitting by the coffeemaker at work, now reduced to crumbs by the coworkers (it's not always so easy!).

Barbara that chicken and fig recipe sounds yummy. An acquaintance offered me whatever I can pick from his fig tree, so I'm going to go by there tomorrow (if the birds didn't eat them all!) and if I get some will have to try your recipe.

Today's plan:
B - 1 c. Kashi Heart to Heart Cereal, 1 c. skim milk, coffee w/ 1 T. h&h, small banana
L - lg. salad w/ 2 oz. bs chicken breast, 2 T. homemade "Green Goddess" dressing, plus one of my snacks
S - 6 oz. lf yogurt, 1 oz. raw almonds, 3 c. diced watermelon
gym - running day! my goal is to increase speed for at least one of my miles
D - leftovers - turkey meatloaf, ratatouille tart
sf ff chocolate pudding pop, maybe an apple or yogurt if I'm hungry later

I got lost. Lost my way to this board. Lost my exercise. Lost my healthy eating. And then, because I was lost, I decided to just - go crazy. I read in someone's post a few weeks back on the Weight Loss Support Board - if you tripped on a step, would you throw yourself down the rest of the stairs? Apparently, the answer for me (at least this last week) was YES! And then climb the stairs and throw myself down them again! And all I can say now is - ouch. That hurt!

So I've decided to stop hurting myself and am back. I join those others here who are wondering what happened to their consistency. Is it summer? I always thought I did better in the summertime, but I'm starting to wonder.

Anyway, today is de-tox from white flour and sugar day. Hope everyone else is doing well. I will try to catch up on all the posts and get re-inspired!

Barbara, I think that is the quiche recipe we made. I put in extra smoked salmon because people had recommended it and my package had more than it called for, but I just can't handle that much smoked salmon (too salty and fishy). I should have followed the recipe directly.

Yesterday's dinner ended up being ciabatta bread "pizzas" -- I had a ciabatta loaf, cut it in half, spread on some pasta sauce, then added spinach, zucchini, tomatoes, turkey bacon, fresh basil, and some goat cheese and parmesan. Yum!

Today's plan:
B - raisin bran, milk
S - banana
L - PB&J on whole wheat
S - apple, peach, yogurt
D - unknown, but it will involve chard or kale and probably a leek. Maybe some beans.
Exercise - 20 min walk with dog

Jessica: Maybe it was just your smoked salmon. I have some really good smoked salmon that I got at the farmers' market; it isn't salty or fishy, so I have high hopes for the quiche. I'm also only putting in 4 oz (the recipe calls for half that), which works out to be 1 oz per serving, which really doesn't seem like very much to me. Also, I think adding an egg and cutting back on the egg whites (especially since egg beater type products seem to be saltier than regular eggs) might help. Hopefully it won't be a disaster.

Megan: The fig recipe is great. My SO raved about it. I ended up adding about 8 oz of fennel (which I sauteed with the onions) and 12 oz of fresh figs (about seven or eight figs, which I diced and stirred in at the very end). Another great way to eat figs is to make to add them to a salad with greens, roasted chicken, goat cheese, and a vinaigrette (I also toss in some roasted garlic, roasted onions, and roasted fennel). And figs are great with sweetened yogurt and cinnamon. I  figs.

Hi everyone.

Plan has gone to heck and back - Sarah's grandpa passed away last night. I loved that man, and she was VERY close to him as well, so we immediately drove down to her family in Southern CA. I'll probably be around but OP might be a stretch, depending on scheduling.

That being said, I did OK today...a granola bar on the way out the door, a subway sandwich and baked chips on the road, and a few normal-sized snacks. I did sit in a car all day, though.

Tomorrow I plan to get up early and run or walk, and I plan to stay as close to OP as I can. We'll see.

Mel 07-08-2008 09:25 PM

Amanda :hug::hug: to you and Sarah. Do the best that you can.

And on a brighter note, I was completely OP for the first time since LAST Wednesday. 1408 calories: 40%P, 31%C, 29%F. Even my macros were pretty close.

Legs lite and cardio today.

Tomorrow will be OP.

Mel

Barbara and Jessica - good smoked salmon shouldn't be fishy, though salty is hard to judge. Some people are just more sensitive to salt .... Here where it seems everyone has a secret recipe for smoked salmon you get a huge range of flavors. Lots of folks use pineapple juice in their marinade; others are not sweet at all. In my book, it's all good. :)

My DH loves figs too, so I may have to try that recipe. DId you put all of those in the recipe thread?

Today was not good. I ended up taking an employee out to lunch, and without planning ahead, we ended up at the Chinese restaurant. No matter that I tried to stick with veggies and fairly plain chicken - it was all salty. I've been guzzling water ever since. On the other hand, it's an employee I'm "grooming" for a promotion in the new year, so I wanted to work out a plan with her and that part went well. It really helps to be away from the office. Rest of the day was like this

B - oatmeal with 1/8 cup raisins, 5 walnut halves and 1% milk, ww toast, 1/2 peach, :coffee:

S - ff latte

L - see above

D - homemade lf spaghetti sauce over 1/2 cup elbow macaroni

S - tea, ww toast

Notice the lack of much fruit or veg..... Tomorrow will be better!

Some days are just easy; I wish they could all be like this. I don't know if it is the heat or just that I had meetings scheduled at times when I would normally be struggling with eating, but I just wasn't that hungry. Even skipped one of my scheduled snacks because I wasn't hungry; I was going to eat it anyway and then realized how stupid that was. :frypan: So my calories came in 200 low. I wish I knew what the trick was; last week at this time it was all I could do not to eat everything in the house. :dunno:

Here's how it worked out:
B: FF plain Greek yogurt, High Fiber Cereal (yup, that's the name), raspberries
S: Decaf coffee with FF half and half and SF Torani
L: Cabbage noodles (version II), marinated mushrooms, pickles, pickled cauliflower, two multigrain tortilla chips
S: Multigrain hot cereal with FF cream cheese stirred in
S: cottage cheese, small plum, small donut peach, 1/2 apricot
D: Moroccan Chickpea Chili with Chicken, green salad with grapefruit
S: Lemon Angel Food Cupcake with Grapefruit-Strawberry Sauce

That all worked out to be about 1200 calories.

Lots of exercise today: 5 min warm up on step mill followed by 10 min intervals, 20 min intervals on TM (OMG--running intervals when it is really hot is a :censored:; I did not think I was going to make it and actually had to rest for 30 seconds around interval #8 :woops:), 15 min abs, 1 hour yoga class (where I got really cold after being so hot running the intervals--I have to remember to bring a sweatshirt next time).

Amanda:  I'm so sorry to hear about Sarah's grandfather. I hope he lived a long, full, and rewarding life.

WaterRat: I  smoked salmon. There are two stands at my farmers' market that sell really good smoked salmon. One sells a couple of different varieties (Sockeye and King in a couple of different marinades) and also sells smoked sturgeon and smoked black cod. The sturgeon is also awesome and I love eating it because I am a huge fan of the Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin mystery series and they are always eating smoked sturgeon sandwiches in those books. I haven't posted the recipes in the recipe thread yet because I hadn't tried them all, but I'll get the ones I've tried so far posted tonight.

Dinner last night was pasta with chard, pinto beans, tomato sauce, and basil. I also ended up sneaking a couple slices of bread and some cereal. :o

Today's plan:
B - flax plus cereal, milk, OJ
S - banana
L - leftover pasta stuff
S - apple, peach, yogurt
D - chicken burgers, zucchini

Megan1982 07-09-2008 09:48 AM

Yesterday my grandmother passed away, so I will be headed to Hilton Head within the next few days. We knew she was declining and Mom and I had been planning to visit her within the next week already. I will be faced with the usual traveling difficulties of food and exercising, but... that's what happens.

Food was as planned yesterday, but instead of an after-gym or after dinner snack I had 2 beers. They were really good. I felt like I needed a drink so I'm ok with that.

Today's plan:
B - 1 c. Kashi Heart to Heart Cereal, 1 c. skim milk, coffee w/ 1 T. h&h, small banana
S - 1 oz. raw sunflower seeds
L - lg. salad w/ 2 oz. bs chicken breast, 2 T. homemade "Green Goddess"
S - 6 oz. lf yogurt, 3 c. diced watermelon
Will try to fit in at least 45 min. lifting at the gym, but I have several important errands after work. My podiatrist is going to tell me how messed up my feet are again.
D - leftovers or I'll get some lean pork chops or steak at the store
sf ff chocolate pudding pop, maybe an apple or yogurt if I'm hungry later

Amanda, I'm so sorry to hear about Sarah's grandfather.

WaterRat 07-09-2008 01:31 PM

Amanda, sorry to hear about Sarah's grandfather, and Megan about your grandmother.

It's a nasty cool overcast day here today, though it's supposed to clear up and get :sunny: We'll see. In any case I'm having a hard time this morning wanting something really carby, like a big cinnamon roll. Good thing there's none to be had. :) Hmmm, may be time for my "emergency" Luna bar, it's blueberry....

B - 2 scrambled eggs, ww toast, 1/2 nectarine, :coffee:
L - grilled chicken salad
D - shrimp, corn on the cob, broccoli
Ss - cottage cheese, berries, grapes, Luna Bar

mandalinn82 07-09-2008 01:42 PM

Megan - so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Take care of yourself.

I went for a walk/run this morning in the hills, which takes care of exercise. I'm also planning to cook tonight, so we'll have a nice healthy meal...chicken, broccoli, a cucumber salad. The rest of the day might be a little more crazy but I'll try to do my best.

paperclippy 07-09-2008 05:00 PM

Confession: I just ate three pieces of cake. :o :o :o :o

rockinrobin 07-09-2008 09:24 PM

Sending great big hugs to Amanda and Megan during this difficult time. I 'm so sorry to hear about your losses.
