Peanut M&M's are my all time favorite food too.
Let me correct that-- they used to be......
I am so impressed with how well everyone is doing!!!
No excuses!!!!

Changed up my dessert tonight but it still fit into my plan perfectly, so I'm ok - I just wanted something that felt a little more "special" so I made a very quick graham cracker crust w/ light margarine, slicked it with a small amount of the ice cream I had planned to eat, and covered that with sliced strawberries. It was probably healthier overall, since it had the extra berry fiber.

Plan for tomorrow:

B - Alternative bagel w/ laughing cow
S - Fruit salad - pineapple, grapes, and strawberries
L - Leftovers - Light wheat bun w/ ground turkey and veggie "sloppy joes", side salad w/ laughing cow and spray dressing
S - Greek yogurt and berries
S - Popcorn
D - Chicken marinated in lemon and thyme, grilled, plus whole wheat roasted vegetable couscous and salad.
S - Strawberries and NSA ice cream

E - 55 min elliptical, 55 min strength training

Good morning! Maybe it's the lack of coffee, but I'm getting a little teary-eyed reading about all your successes. I am so proud of all of you!!! There's something about a group and accountability that makes all the difference! I can't wait till the end of the week to see how we all did on the scales, though Lydia is already setting new records. :carrot:

I have a doctor's appointment this morning and will get weighed, though I have no idea how that will sync up with my home scale (the official one!) And then, in the spirit of find a way, not an excuse, I need to figure out how to exercise without being able to get my gym shoes on over my toe bandage. Toe bandages were not part of this week's plan! :tantrum: Ballys sure won't want me working out in flipflops (and I don't want to be near 45# plates like that) so I'll soak my toe in salt water per instructions, rewrap it, then head into the basement to see what kind of workout I can put together there.

Food came in right on plan, though yesterday's Pity Party made it a struggle. I'm off to Fitday to plan the day and am making a big pot of bean soup, the dieter's friend (all that fiber is incredibly filling!)

Evangeline, it's wonderful to see you again! :woohoo:

Here's to another fantastic day!! :cb:

I mean, sure, if you just get black coffee or tea or a small latte -- no biggie. But the calories in some of their desserts and drinks are RIDICULOUS. Luckily, their frappucinos make me physically sick to my stomach now, so they're not really tempting. I think the last time I had one was at least a year ago.

Keep passing up that cheesecake. I looked up the nutritional info, and believe me, you do NOT want to be eating that!

Your groceries look beautiful! Nice to see some colorful photos on this thread.

Keep up all the hard work and enjoy all your yummy new food. :)

The Frapp's started at work already this week... while it's always available, no one was really having any until it started getting a bit warmer out... funny you mention that they make you sick to your stomach now... I noticed too that after I had one I didn't feel that great... I'm going to keep that sicky feeling now in my mind when I'm tempted. It's going to be a LONG summer though...:( I know that the calorie levels are HIGHER than HIGH in a lot of the stuff we have on offer... it's just not even worth it!! I've got my eyes on the prize... ME!

Well said, Meg!

Glory, if you stay away from the cookies I'll stay away from the brownies, cake, and peanut m&m's in my office. I just got back from a long day in the field to be assailed by these goodies. Since I was off work 1/2 hour ago, I'm going to head to the gym without touching them...definitely without smelling them! I'm willing to bet they look better than they taste. I'll bet, but not find out for sure. :snooty:

Velveteen, I would have trouble at a Starbucks too - the smell alone would trigger me to eat too many snacks. Great job!

I think we're all doing a wonderful job. Keep up the great work, everyone! We are worth so much more than a momentary moment of pseudo-happiness.

I'll be back to read/write more in depth tomorrow. Have a great evening all.

Megan, luckily I'm most enticed by the smell of coffee :) and it permeates our building (I work at the roasting plant)! But we do a lot of coffee tastings and food pairings and it's the food pairings I can live without!!

Made it through the business lunch- enormous spinach salad with a few cherry tomatoes and 2 big broiled scallops (almost everyone else was eating pasta dishes and lots of Italian bread- that doesn't bother me because the wheat would do me in!). I sat in a traffic snarl and managed 6 blocks in 35 minutes  How do people do that every day??? Then I tried to help my 85 year old aunt (who is in excellent health) cope with the task of deciding which furniture to keep when she moves from her large 2 bedroom condo to a much smaller 1 bedroom apartment in 3 months. She has stacks of books and music everywhere, and years worth of knick-knacks. I managed to make it home with only a set of dessert plates which were my grandmother's, a few bud vases, one set of drinking glasses and 2 chain belts that she probably bought in 1970 but are back in fashion. She didn't offer the grand piano- I would have taken that! :lol3: I have no idea what kind of calories I had for dinner, but I did manage to get steamed food at the Chinese restaurant with no soy sauce or other sauces, and no rice. I somehow skipped a meal- wow, that must be a first! and just about passed out by the time food arrived. So even without an exact breakdown or count, I think it was a success nutritionally.

Yep, that would be me minus the physical pain.
But I just wanted to EAT. Driving home, I kept thinking about pulling into the nearest grocery store and buying the biggest bag of peanut M&Ms I could find and eating myself sick. I had to find an ATM which meant going into a convenience store (no fees). I kept my eyes firmly on the floor (yuck) except when I was facing the ATM. The thought of this thread is the only thing that kept me in line. I feel like an alcoholic :(

But I did it. Home, cooked tomorrow's breakfasts, packed lunches with no nibbles, and am hiding from dh's chips while he watches the hockey game.

Anybody bored yet?????

Day 4 in the bank.

Mel

Mel  I'm sorry it was THAT kind of day for you. HANG IN THERE! You made it 4 DAYS!!!

 that so sucks about your toe, I'm sorry Meg!!

Yesterday was another POP day for me - I even had WINE! And boy do I savour that stuff now! I only drink it when I've got the points for it. Last time around I wasn't planning for it.

Now I've got to get myself in gear to go on my elliptical. With the BL exercise challenge to keep me in check as well, I've got some exercise minutes to log!

I can't say it enough - you all have helped me tremendously stay on track this week so far!! THANK YOU!

rockinrobin 05-01-2008 07:25 AM

Look how well everyone is doing!!!! This is PHENOMENAL!!!

Barbara, I'm so sorry. I never thanked you for posting that recipe with the Chinese Cabbage. Well -THANK YOU!! I love cabbage and use it in salads all the time, not sure why I don't cook with it much.

Meg, about the toe , sometimes there really are excuses. Well not even excuses, but legitamate "reasons".

I see many of us have a "thing" for that yellow package of M&M's. It's funny. Regular M & M's don't do it for me. For me, it's the combination of the peanut and the chocolate. Yumm - oh. But I won't be having those anytime soon.

It's been getting easier and easier for me to pass up on things. The nibbles and bites. Which is a very, very good thing. Went to the fridge a few times last night, saw those grapes staring me in the eyes and said NO each and every time. I'm even beginning to look forward to the weekend. I want to show that stupid weekend that I can once again pull this off.

I haven't been on the scale, but lo and be hold, the pants-o-meter is definitely seeing an improvement. I know it's all the water I'd been retaining, because yesterday I was peeing practically non-stop.

Here's to another fabulous day ladies - and Gary, ;). Let's keep up the great work!!!!!!!

Meg 05-01-2008 07:32 AM

Hey Robin, I have homework for you.

We know you've been dreading the weekend because weekends have been your downfall. So here's your assignment: tomorrow, come and tell us what's going on for you this weekend -- parties, dinners out, etc. And then tell us your plan for dealing with everything that will be happening all weekend. Feel free to post menus for Saturday and Sunday! All of us are going to be supporting you and cheering you on for an on-plan weekend. :cheer: We want to come here on Monday morning and read about your success! So you thought you were safe from homework since you're out of school? Nope! :D

Will do!!! (and thanks, a LOT)

bargoo 05-01-2008 09:12 AM

Started out Monday at 130.8 and am 126.8 this AM. I feel mighty good about that, yesterday I went to the store and managed to get down the cookie aisle without putting any in my cart. The bakery department ......fresh donuts, I managed to escape with no cookies or pastries. I then went to the gas station and paid 3.99 per gallon for gas !!!! This was how I started the day as I had to have my dog at the groomers at 7:00 AM.My dog looks great and I stayed on plan.

Meg 05-01-2008 09:51 AM

Four pounds, Bargoo?! Wow! :bravo:

Hey, you're below goal now! Nice to have a little wiggle room. :)

Megan1982 05-01-2008 11:42 AM

Hi all,

I'm the same way as everyone else seems to be - I really could care less about plain M&M's (or the crispy ones, even the PB or almond). It's the peanut M&M's. I ate about 1 1/2 bags of the dark chocolate peanut at Valentine's Day this year. :o Nope, not touching those ones sitting 10 feet away from me on my co-worker's desk.

BF remarked last night that he hasn't had pizza since I "gave up" pizza (not technically true!) and won't let him buy it for dinner for me (that is true - not pizza parlor pizza!). Poor man. Of course, he is an adult and could just get it for himself. I think I'll make a Kashi pizza as a treat tonight, they're fairly decent nutritionally.

Bargoo, awesome job being below your goal/red line! Bravo!

Robin, you are totally going to kick this weekend's behind! :cheer3:

Amanda, you always have such delicious "light" dessert ideas. Will you come and be my dessert chef? I'm too lazy to cook dessert after I cook dinner! :p

Mel, we all have bad days "for no reason" sometimes. Way to be strong and resist temptation. I hope today is better for you.

Is it just me or is there an abundance of sweets in the world this week?

Keep it up Velveteen, Gary, Barbara, Lydia, nineteen, Pat, Glory, Evangeline, Lisa, Allison, Tammy, midwife, Michele, bargoo, and everyone else who wants to join in!!! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Dessert WAS quite tasty...mmm. Very summery. I bought a flat of strawberries (yes, a FLAT) and Sarah and I have gone through them in 4 days. LOVE strawberry season. Mmm. Dessert is non-optional in this house...we feel deprived without it, so I come up with SOME way to make it work.

Hearing you all talk about all the food challenges and gauntlets at work...I just can't say how much I love working at home. Especially at Christmas/holiday time when everyone is bringing in treats. No treats get into my house unless I bring them in (or Sarah bring something exceptionally awesome home for me to try, but that's rare).

My challenge will be to do this NEXT week when I'm trapped in business meetings M-Th, in and out of airports, etc. I have no idea what the food situation will even BE, but I'm assuming if it is anything like the last time we had these meetings, food will be brought in for a working lunch. I'm trying to think of a way I can sneak healthy food in without anyone noticing. To compound the problem, no one at this particular client has seen me since my high weight :o Yeah, that won't be awkward at all. Oh, and we add on an hour commute AT LEAST each way, too, meaning that to exercise, I have to cut my nightly sleep to 5 hours or less. Still, all the above sound an AWFUL lot like excuses, and we don't DO excuses here, right? So I'll find a way to make it work.

S: Multi-grain cereal with FF cream cheese and SF Torani.
Barbara - cream cheese on cereal?? We do have a lot in common. My DH is currently about 5'3-1/2" - though he used to be 5'9" before he got cancer and multiple compression fractures in his back. He would weigh a lot less if he didn't still have the skeltal structure of a 5'9" person. :) He's been in remission (after 2 stem cell transplants) since 2000 though, and that's the icing on the cake for us.

Any way, this is a food/no excuses thread, so back to that. Yesterday seems to have been everybody's temptation day. After reisisting the pizza, I had to go to a retirement reception. I stayed across the room from the food, and drank my water. :) Then I go to get my hair cut after work, and darned if a previous client hadn't left homemade oatmeal cookies!! Luckily my hairdresser is also trying to lose so while she offered them, she didn't press me to have one. Whew. It was a relief to go home and cook my planned dinner - which was delicious.

Today's plan:

B - cheerios with skim milk, 1/2 oz of walnuts, toast with whipped cream cheese
S - ff latte
S - cottage cheese with berries
L - chili over salad greens, apple
S - Clif nectar bar
D - chicken, asparagus, brown rice

alinnell 05-01-2008 12:40 PM

I did quite well yesterday. Calories came in at about 1380 and I got in almost an hour of walking. No change in the scale, though. Probably has something to do with the prednisone?

Today's plan:
B~fiber English muffin and LC light cheese wedge
S~carrots and pea pods
L~Lean Cuisine enchilada, 1/2 apple, Activia yogurt
S~??
D~chicken parmesan sandwich (homemade--they're quite small) and salad.
E~1 hour walk. The walking really is necessary, I've found. Yesterday at work, every time I got up to go to a different office, my leg was tight and sore. The walking made it more comfortable. Either that or it was the Tylenol!

EofAZ 05-01-2008 04:20 PM

Well it is once again lunch time and I’m skipping around feeling so pleased with myself. I figured 1 day = 24 hours and since I started halfway through the day then my first day is up at 1:00 today. No excuses so I didn’t wait until today to start, I started the minute I posted. After I posted yesterday I took the box of donuts that one of the guys so thoughtfully put on the counter attached to my work station (so they would be convenient for everyone) and moved them to a different department. I figured by 1:00 pm anyone who wanted a donut in our area already had it and I didn’t need that big pink box sitting there any longer.

The best part is that when I got home I walked in, kissed the old man and went straight to my workout room, pulled out an aerobics video and danced my little heart out for 30 minutes. I LOVE to workout, I have a WONDERFUL workout room and I cannot for the life of me figure out why it has been so hard to get myself to use it. It felt so good once I finished. I had some grilled salmon & asparagus, for dinner and a multigrain muffin top and a couple of plums during the evening.

This morning I was up and put in 30 minutes on the treadmill before work but the real proof in the pudding will be when I go back into my room this evening and workout again. I really need to beat the “I’m to tired to move” feeling that comes over me when I get home during the evening. I’m planning on pulling out Kathy Smith’s Lifting Weights to lose weight until I finish reading NROL4W and then I’m going to see if I can follow it’s program.

Meals for today:
B Peanut Butter Granola Bar
L NS Stroganoff (left my salad on the counter at home so had a V8)
S Cottage Cheese with cinnamon, splenda and a ½ ounce of raisins.
D Veggie Soup and elk roast
S Light String Cheese & Apple

I have not had a chance to plug this into Fitday yet so I may tweak after I do that.

Meg 05-01-2008 04:25 PM

Evangeline, it's so great to have you back posting again! I got a big old smile on my face when I saw your name pop up on the thread. :)

Allison, from what I know about prednisone, it's a huge accomplishment not to gain weight while you're taking it. So your scale staying the same sounds like a victory to me! :carrot:
