Happy Halloween maintainers,

Wendalyn here just wanting to wish you all a spooktacular day!

Halloween, personally I think it is just organized begging myself.... Lol, also thank goodness I only have to share my candy/treats with all the kiddies but once a year! Yeah I am a sweet tooth junkie, but I have cut the majority of it out of my life for good. For instance in my pre-chubdom days, I used to eat 4-5 big size candy bars a day. But nowadays I work in 1 piece of dove dark chocolate or some dark altoids and call that that a day instead! It was a tough one to conquer, but I did it!

I am happy to report .. I think all the alcohol has finally left my system. I am certain my liver is thanking me too! It feels so good to be back on track foodwise and beverage wise too and I got the few pounds off that I gained once again, so I am back being a holder at 145, so I am thrilled with that.
Even though I am only 7 months in on my maintenance, I truly think I am progressing..... It for sure helps that I get to fess up on my bad choices and somebody atleasts understands and does these type of things too, its nice to know that things happen, deal with them and move on just like in life.

I know it is about consistency rather than perfection. I honestly am pretty consistent will healthy ways the majority of the time, but several times a month or so it seems I live life just a lil too much, but I am trying to clean up my act a bit more even and I have decided my new drink of choice will be grapefruit juice, when I am out on the town whooping it up next time around, I will be sipping one of these instead.

I am happy to be here and be a part of this smart group of individuals, here's to us ladies and gents!

Megan- (wino) glad to hear you resisted the cookies, atta girl.

Night- thanks for relating to me on the boozin, my grapefruit juice will now look like a cocktail next time around, and I will savor it for hrs, thanks for the tip!

Robin- thanks I will be stepping away from the candy more than a few times no doubt! Your job sounds ideal and fun.

Kim- Congrats on your new job and having great #'s and abs too, go you!

Kery- way to go getting on track, your doing it!

Lily- I feel for you, hang in there girl, thats always a toughie.

Glory- I'm coming over trick or treating, those were a fave of mine!

Allinel- Cheers to us wino's!

Anne-Congrats

Everybody else hope your doing well too.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Well, I binged on the halloween candy again last night. Luckily they are fun size, but I ate 365 calories of junk. This is AFTER eating a ginormous bowl of pasta with sauce (healthy sauce, but still). I mean a big bowl -- my bowl is big to begin with and I heaped so much food in there when I tried to stir it up stuff started falling out. But, I did get a great workout in at the gym despite my knee feeling funky earlier.

No junk food at work today (so far) although they did have a coffee bar, so I got a small nonfat chai (oops, forgot to put that in my food log!!).

I'm dragging a bit this morning. While fixing dinner last night, I determined that my fridge is not working correctly. DH kept saying that DD had not shut the door tight and wouldn't listen to the fact that "I" was the last one in the fridge that morning and I always shut it tight. Anyway, he wouldn't look at it last night. This morning, it still isn't cold, so I moved all the perishables into the garage fridge. I can't move the frozen food because my garage freezer is full. I checked things in there this morning and they seem to still be frozen. Things are "cool" in the fridge, but not cold. I left produce and condiments in the kitchen fridge--I don't think they'll go bad if they're only slightly cool rather than cold. Anyway, I was going to call someone today but NOW DH wants to look at himself tonight. I hope he can fix it or the food will keep until I can schedule a repairman.

Anyway, I'm dragging because I didn't sleep well. My varicose vein THROBBED all day yesterday and I couldn't get comfortable to fall asleep. Then when I did get to sleep, I awoke at 12:30 AM to discover DD isn't home yet. She had to usher at a theater for something at school, but I thought she'd be home before midnight. I got up and texted her and she said she was with friends and would be home in an hour. Never mind this being a school night (it's homecoming week and the schedule isn't as hectic at school). I couldn't get back to sleep and finally just before 2 AM I texted her again with "it's been more than an hour!" but she walked in less than a couple minutes later. She and some friends were at someone's house watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre! Must be the Halloween thing to do for teens. She was pretty tired today (and she has the homecoming parade this afternoon--her problem, not mine!). She said that the movie was "disgusting."

Dinner last night was good and healthy, but for some reason I couldn't count. We had eggs scrambled with onions and peppers and a little cheese. There were the 3 of us for dinner and I fixed 8 eggs! Who knows why I thought all 4 of us were eating! DD doesn't eat eggs anyway. So I ate a little too much.

We have no Halloween treats here!

Hi everyone, I'm feeling a little better today about the XW situation. I retained a new lawyer this morning. It was expensive but I can't give the XW the satisfaction of continuing to garnish DH's wages. (the other attorney we had hired to handle all this matter said she was too busy and it would be at least 6 more months before she could get it resolved). This new attorney said "no problem, I'll amend his divorce decree and we'll go before the judge" and "even if the XW contests it, the judge will listen to Shelbey that she wants to live with her father and it will be granted". He also said "we'll be completely done with this before Christmas". So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the EX.

Last night I did some heavy duty cleaning and furniture moving. I took down the bunk beds in the spare bedroom and set up a queen size bed instead. Since Shane is staying the night once or twice a week and hates to sleep on the bunk beds, and I hate for him to sleep on the couch.

Shane is taking his GF and her 2 little boys trick or treating tonite. This will be a first for him.

I'm on track with eating and right now feel pretty strong that I'll be able to handle the temptation of the halloween candy.

DH totally screwed up the Escort yesterday while doing the tune-up. He sucks at fixing things!. So, now I'm in a rental car til my car is fixed from the head-on with the deer.

What is it with husbands who think they can fix things better than a repair man?

Allison - a gal at work just had the same problem with her fridge. Turned out to be - I think - the thermostat and blocked tubing. Good luck and thank goodness you have another fridge.

Lily - sounds like this lawyer will do a better job for you. What good would it be to wait 6 months!? I do hope the judge will listen to Shelby.

There is a little bit of Halloween candy here, and none at home, so I'm not having a hard time. Hopefully none of our patrons feel obligated to bring us any.

Gotta go and take my car to have the snow tires put on. Of course today it's in the 40's and pouring rain....

When I woke up this morning, I put my costume right on - well most of it. For today, tonight's dance party, and Friday night's dance party, I'm a black cat. I'm wearing a black tank top under my black sweater with six grey and white angora cats knitted into the front so when I get too hot from dancing, I can take the sweater off. A black teared skirt that swings out nicely, black tights, and so far a cat ear headband. I'll attach the tail - don't want to be sitting on it while I'm on the computer, and paint on the wiskers before the kids come knocking.

My trick with the Halloween candy is to buy the kind that kids like but I don't. Unfortunetly, late last night the bag started to call me and I found taffy in it. Everything else was too sugary so I won't go back for it. Tonight, I plan to hand out big handfuls and be done with it all so there's no temptation left over.

Of course there are going to be lots of snacks at the Halloween Swing Dance Party tonight. I'll just have to remember my montra of "Chocolate no longer tastes good".

Maybe if I write that a thousand times, I'd believe it?

Happy Halloween! We're expecting a record turnout of trick or treaters this year due to perfect weather and more daylight than past years. But no candy shall pass these lips today.

Smart move with the new lawyer, Lily. Won't that be a nice Christmas present?

Allison, this may be too dumb for words, but did you check the coils on your frig to be sure they're clean? Ours stopped cooling when the cat fur fuzzies got out of hand, but of course, I didn't realize it until I paid for an expensive service call. Now I dust the coils once a month or so.

Evil, congrats on getting back to your happy weight. I totally agree with you about how important it is to know that messing up is a normal part of maintenance (as well as weight loss!) and that it happens to all of us. Trust me, we ALL understand!!

We have one of those annoying gym guys too, who (incorrectly) thinks he's charming and irresistable. The gym is a giant pickup bar to him and he's famous for cornering you when you're on cardio equipment and can't escape. I've learned that you have to be rude, and even then, he often doesn't get it. I've ended up just saying point blank "go away" in my best mom voice. Ugh!!

Robin, have fun shopping for workout clothes for the new job! When I was a trainer at Ballys, we had to wear red shirts and black pants, and red is my least favorite color. Most of the time I wore the tomato red company shirt (and hated it), but even warmup jackets and shoes had to be the standard red and black. Yucko. Are you allowed to wear whatever you like?

Kim, damn straight you can put your lipid profile on your resume! And your signature here. And how about a Tshirt? You should be proud! My triglycerides and LDLs are ridiculously low too (and HDLs way high) and my PCP told me that's the result of exercise. She said you can't diet your way to those numbers; they're the result of consistent, intense exercise. Sometimes I think we all tend to focus on the diet side of the equation and forgot all the good that exercise does for our bodies -- not just for weight control, but for overall good health. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, more than all cancers combined. So it makes sense to keep our hearts as healthy as possible. Hey, it's a muscle, after all, and it needs exercise!

to all -- let's stay strong today. Tomorrow we're going to talk about our strategies for surviving the holidays so start thinking about where you want to be come January 1, 2008.

I've decided to play on the computer to help keep my hands out of the candy bowl between trick or treaters. Big mistake, I let Lacy pick out the candy for tonite and she picked Starbursts and Snickers. Even though I'm not hungry, I still just ate a banana to keep from eating candy.

Lordy. I forgot all about buying Halloween candy so bf did it. He purposely didn't buy my favorites (such a good boy!) but he did buy kitkats, which I put on the high end of the 'desirable non-favorite candy' spectrum. Fortunately we've had a TON of trick or treaters tonight, so there's hardly anything left. I recall that last year I bought Snicker's (a personal fave) and something else and there were so few trick or treaters that bf and I had to take responsibility for ALL of it. That sure was hard work.

My good news of the day: I weighed in at 136.0, which is some kind of world record, Kim notwithstanding. The flipside is that my weight doesn't count on Wednesday and it probably will be a couple of pounds higher by Friday when it does count. For some reason I tend to weigh less midweek than I do on my official Friday weigh in.

My mediocre news of the day is that I am currently on a total food and liquid fast until tomorrow morning. I have an appointment for an ultrasound for my mystery stomach problem in the morning and I'm not supposed to eat, drink or smoke for the next 12 hours. The food I can completely do without, but water... Really? No water for 12 hours? Not even when I first wake up? I might file a brief with the supreme court alleging that this is cruel and unusual. I tend towards the radically dehydrated, so I'm already cheating, 30 mins into the fast, drinking a big glass of water with reckless abandon. I did tell them that the cigarette thing wasn't going to work. There is no way that any reasonable person could possibly ask me to not smoke for 12 hours when I'm not even on a plane. Besides, I can't imagine what it would be like for the poor tech people tomorrow morning to deal with a radically dehydrated, uncaffeinated, niccfitting me for a full hour. It wouldn't be pretty. So, consequently, I've decided to spare them by not forgoing my cigarettes.

I always knew that I was a generous and altruistic soul.

The weird thing was that I was supposed to eat a "NO FAT DIET" today. I was incredulous when they showed me the little handout with instructions. No fat? None? I asked the nurse if this included say, chicken breasts, and she assured me that that would be ok so long as I didn't deep fry them. This did not clear things up for me at all. I never eat fried chicken, but I do get between 20-25% of my daily calories from fat. I suspect that this language problem has to do with the general public not tracking their food %s and also not knowing that yogurt and salad dressing have fat in them?

It's all a mystery and you can call me baffled.

No candy passed these lips yesterday! (and none shall today either) We didn't have nearly as many kids as I thought we would, given the warm weather and extra hour of daylight. Yikes -- lots of leftovers and DS wants to keep them for his blood sugar lows. He'll have to stash them out of my sight.

Baff, I feel your pain. It was the same deal when I had a colonoscopy. I was so dehydrated by the time I arrived for my appointment that they couldn't find a vein for my IV. I hope everything goes smoothly for you and that you get some answers.

I'm taking DS to a new ENT doctor this afternoon to see if there's any way to avoid a tonsillectomy. DS is a musician and is concerned what surgery might do to his singing voice, so we were fortunate to find a doctor who specializes in working with singers.

Other than that, it's cold and rainy and the leaves are taunting me to rake them.

Baffled -- I feel for you. I once had to remain 6 hours without drinking nor eating, and while I didn't care about eating (hospital food sucks, I had already thrown it up beforehand anyway ), the drinking part was definitely sheer torture.

I have been playing a lot of head games with myself lately so I'm going to try to continually remind myself of this.

Last night I ate my satisfying, tasty dinner, brushed my teeth, and locked down my mouth. I ignored the puff pastry and the candied apples my friends made, and enjoyed the silly Halloween movies we rented. "Monster Squad" brings back good childhood memories! I could have kissed my roommate. She got Buffalo and Blue Cheese-flavored Doritos (I'm allergic to blue cheese), Skittles (eh), and Play-Do for the tricker treaters. Not that I would have eaten other candy anyway, but this didn't tempt me much. She didn't do it on purpose for me, it just worked out that way.

I think there just must be one annoying guy per gym, nationwide. No 2 in any 1 zip code. I feel bad being rude, but... yeah.

Meg, I hope the new doctor can help your son without hurting his voice.

baffled111, congrats on the 136! I hope you survive the ultrasound prep. Sounds tense.

Carolyn, how was your dance party? Have fun at tonight's!

Pat, Allison, BFs also think they can fix everything (in training for the husband 'job'?). Mine is actually pretty realistic about what he can and can't fix, it just takes forever to actually get him to fix it once he says he'll do it. Oh, yeah, reminds me - my car has been waiting for new spark plug wires for 3 months!

Lily, sounds like this new lawyer will be very helpful!

Is it really November already? Geez! Hi everyone else. Hope you're all having a great day.

Good morning!

After having a total mental breakdown about my weight and current lack of motivation, I decided that I've been beating myself up over it and I need to stop. I'm going to lose these last 3 pounds, then be done with it and work solely on strength and muscletone. SCREW this "I need to weigh 125" mindset. I wear almost the same pants size, anyway; I was just "thin" then and I'm "athletic" now with A LOT more muscletone.

My girlfriend cried yesterday because we wear the same size. Then, she called herself a fat cow. This made me feel absolutely terrific. She REALLY has a complex about me being bigger than her and she won't even tell me why! She still weighs 10 pounds less than I do and is 3 inches taller. She ignored me for a few hours, all because she can fit my clothes and I can fit hers! She has JUST reached the "healthy weight" range for her height and now wants to lose 5 pounds. I told her how, and she said, "EUGH! I don't WANT to LIMIT MY portions! I HATE EXERCISE! I HATE healthy food! NO! " I registered her a fitday account and we've been tracking her calories... she eats 2,500-3,000 a day and most of them are fat and carbs! And she's complaining that she gained 10 pounds within the last year? My eyes are going to be in constant pain from all the rolling they're doing!

Congrats to everyone who didn't eat candy yesterday... I'm happy to say I can count myself in!

Meg - EEEK! Tonsilectomy! Here's the good news: one of my friends got his tonsils out sometime last year and his singing voice still sounds great. I don't think a tonsilectomy will permanently ruin your vocal chords; he may not want to sing until he recovers, but it won't hold him back for long.
More good news: I know several people who have gotten repeated tonsil infections but have been able to avoid the dreaded tonsilectomy. The best way to kick tonsilitus is to (brace yourself, this is gross) take something like a chop stick to the back of your throat and poke all the nasty white stuff out. It's disgusting and painful but usually makes a tonsil infection go away in a couple days.

baffled - I hope you find out what is wrong with your stomach! No water for 12 hours? Daaaang, girl, I don't blame you for "cheating" on the "fast"... any human would be absolutely PARCHED! You are right... the average American doesn't realize that most things, even yogurt, chicken breasts, and salad dressing still have fat content. Perhaps the nurse meant to say LOW fat diet? Does she have a thick accent?

Carolyn - "chocolate no longer tastes good"?? I think I'm going to need a hypnotist to believe that. Hee. There was a Halloween party at work yesterday and there were all kinds of candies. Some of my pseudo health conscious co-workers grabbed everything with dark chocolate and said, "OOO! This is the HEALTHY, GOOD FOR YOU chocolate!! We can eat as much as we want of this, it's not fattening at all!" Have a great time at your party tonight.

Shane, I think you've made a wise decision. It's time to forget what the scale says and focus on fitness goals. As you know from your clothes, muscles are awesome and you're going to look much tighter and smaller than someone else your weight who doesn't exercise. Forgive me for this but on the GF's jealousy issues. So do you have any fitness goals in mind?

Megan, surviving your Halloween party was a huge, huge victory and you should be very proud of yourself!
