Meg: I'll bet you will be glad to be getting home. Your planning sounds like it was super successful, though. I absolutely adore the dress you picked out. So classy and stylish!
I had a week of clean eating and seeing the scale go down and then blew it yesterday when my 16yo daughter and I took the light rail to downtown Denver. We had a nice healthy lunch (half club and house salad) but then blew it at a bakery by getting a dozen cookies. They were buy 6 get 6 free. How could we refuse!? I ate two downtown, one on the bus home and another two once I got home! Egads. Then I had... well, I won't even tell you what else I had. It wasn't pretty. Today I have a drs. appointment and I don't even want to get on the scale. And here I was looking forward to my annual weigh in for once in my life. Now, not so much. Today is back to clean eating. I got in a nice workout at the gym so that made me feel a tad better I hope everyone is staying cool, especially ennay! Pam |
Meg, thanks for the kind words. I think what I've pretty much been told is that if I overuse my wrists, my tendons get inflamed and my wrists hurt. The cure is to stop using my wrists until they get better (pretty standard sports medicine theory). The problem is that my day-to-day life, mostly my job, requires more wrist use than my tendons can handle without getting inflamed. So it sounds like my wrists would probably get better if I were to quit my job and not do much for a few months, but as soon as I picked up the job again they would start hurting. So there is something wrong with me, it's just not any serious disease or syndrome that they can treat. I am thinking of trying to see a sports medicine doctor though since my problem seems more like the kind of thing a pro athlete or musician would have (tennis player with chronic tennis elbow, for example).
Count me in to the club of people who are afraid of the scales! Last night we met with our wedding caterer (hopefully, we haven't signed yet) to taste some of her cooking. She does a dinner delivery service so we just picked up one of her dinners, but she threw in some extras to give us more examples of her cooking. All together we took home: BBQ grass-fed beef for sandwiches, pita bread, vegetable couscous salad, a bean and barley salad, corn and tomato soup, berry trifle, brownies, and coffee cake. I ate too much and my stomach was upset, but it was tasty and aside from the desserts, much healthier tasting than the other caterers. This woman grows most of her own vegetables and buys all the rest plus her meat from local growers. It's all very fresh and tasty. I think as soon as we hear back from her other references we'll be ready to sign with her! In any case, I've gained a couple pounds. I didn't think I was fitting my clothes too much differently until my fiance asked me if I was 100% sure I wasn't pregnant! :fr:  He says it wasn't because I looked fat though (suuuure). He was just worrying about money and wanted to make sure there were no surprises coming up (as if I would keep it a secret from him). Anyway it was a weird question considering the chances of my getting pregnant are about 0.000001% at the moment (multiple forms of birth control going on here), so of course my first thought was "is my tummy fat???" |
paperclippy - how on earth did df survive long enough to GET a fiancee asking women if they are pregnant. He is lucky to have you
- and will braces not help? And in addition to a good sports therapist, try acupunture, it cured dh's tennis elbow and my chronic hip problem when I had been told I needed to quit running and give up driving a stick shift.... Pam - OK how weird is this, my a/c started working again. I am sure this means it is on its last legs, but yesterday it worked fine. It probably went "oh, this is only a 91's hot spell with cool nights, never mind, I am going to wait until the week of 99's when it doesnt cool off at all at night - then..I'm done" Meg - so what do we call that club... "Oh Heck"?...that is the forum modified version of what I said when I got ON the scale. Although "Oh :censored:" might look good |
Hi everyone,
Last night DH and I went to dinner, then the comedy show and the karaoke club. We had a really fun time. When we went to eat, I was starving. He wanted to eat at the Outback but I chose a different restaraunt because I can't seem to refuse the cheesecake at the Outback. I had only eaten 2 lowfat graham crackers all day yesterday and saved my calories for eating out. I chose baked chicken, cabbage and a baked potato and then ate a big plate of fresh strawberries, peaches, and cantaloupe. It was divine. I have been doing really well now at staying on plan and taking the extra lbs. off and I didn't want to screw it up. No fun for today. I plan to do my banking and bill paying. This evening DH and I are going to do more concrete work along our back fence. I have made a new friend named Casha that I see each week at the karaoke club. She and I are going to join a gym together once school starts. I don't want to pay a gym membership for Lacy and Shelbey as they both only want to exercise sporadically and it would end up being a waste of money. When I see my hepatologist on Sept. 5th, I have to get him to give me a paper saying that I can join a gym. I plan to do do water aerobics and toning with weights for my hips, legs, booty and arms. I know that with so many hernia surgeries, I won't be able to do much for the Ab's. I'm really looking forward to working out at the gym and having a gym partner. |
Ennay - LOL about my fiance! I do have splints and braces for my arms, and I've tried acupuncture with no success. :( I'm going to start asking around about sports medicine people.
Lily, I hope your plan to join a gym goes well! |
Lily: I hope your doctor gives you the okay. You will love working out at a gym. There's something about the atmosphere that really gets you in work out mode. Plus they have really good equipment and you don't have to contend with the weather. I love going to the gym, but still walk in the evening with my DH.
ennay: How funny about your ac. I hope it doesn't conk out on you again. We have had so many things like that with our house and cars that work sporadically. Sometimes I've regretted not getting them fixed sooner because letting it go ended up costing me more $$$. I doubt that will happen with your ac. Pam |
I'm guessing the "snack" I just ate of :censored: food porn pretty much wipes out that "back on the losing path" I posted this morning. sigh.....well, at least its all gone. :yikes:
ahhh the gym...I wish I could go to the gym that I am paying an obscene amount of money to not go to. They only have child care from 9-11am....guess when mr grumpy pants has decided he absolutely must nap. or scream. :tired: |
Gosh, why offer child care at all if it's only 2 hours?? Our gym has it all the open hours as far as I know. Since I don't have kids, I don't pay that much attention, but I know I see parents picking up kids in the early evenings. And I almost always see little shoes in the shoe room no matter what time I'm there.

Oh boy, Jessica, do I understand about wedding planning making you fat!
I'm finally home! It was a long day traveling yesterday (NM to Phoenix to Pittsburgh). We landed, I picked up my luggage, took the shuttle out to my car, raced home, did hair and makeup in five minutes, threw on dress clothes and was out the door to a cocktail party. I'm tired today but HAVE to get to the gym! Other than that, it will be a day of bringing order to chaos. Mountains of dirty clothes and mail to deal with. :faint: |
Lisa - When we first moved to South Jersey, I used to say we lived in the cornfields and meant it. But in the 14 years we've been here, thousands of houses have been built, multiple shopping centers have been put in, and lots of traffic lights have been installed. I still call where we live the "Cultural Void". We have to cross the river to Philadelphia to get anything beyond the movie theater.
DH has made our reservation at the Newport Marina in Jersey City for the week after next. It will cost us around a $100 a day to tie up, use their electricity, and bathroom. I'm glad they'll have a shower because I don't want to have to take the train to the apartment just to get a shower. I could do it onboard in a pinch. We have two - a cockpit (outdoor) and a below deck (indoor). We have a hot water heater. We have two large water tanks. I just don't like getting the head (bathroom) all wet and then having to deal with the sump (pump that empties the bildge - place that the water drains to) And I HATE ending up with a wet toilet seat to sit on. I want it dry, dry, dry inside the boat and DH just doesn't get it. DH actually got home at a reasonable time last night after working in NYC and then driving the 2 hours to our house. We watched Mel Gibson's Apocatlipto. VERY violent, but fascinating. Then I watched the bonus features (I just love them) and a portion of the moview with Gibson's and the director's comments. I'm up really early. Woke up around 5 and couldn't get back to sleep. I will go back and get a nap before I head to the shore. My car's back full of our boat cushions, towels, blankets, pillows and freshly cleaned sheets. We're finally staying onboard tonight. DH will head down much earlier because he has a Hobie Cat race and needs to get there before 'turn over day traffic'. There's only one bridge onto the 16 mile long island and Saturday at 2 pm is when the rental houses 'turn over' for the week long rentals. The access to the island gets bumper to bumper for hours. My weight was back down to 105 yesterday, but I doubt it will be there today after all the peanuts I've eaten the past two days. MAJOR trigger food for me. Why did I buy them???? My art group Fiber Revolution is having a 3 month long show at the Embroiderers' Guild of America headquaters in Louisville, KY. They just sent me their Needlearts magazine. There's an article in it about our exhibition and they selected one of my artwork to accompany the article and another one for the back cover of the magazine. When they told me it would be on the back cover I was thinking it be 4"x4" with a lot of text and ad space. Instead, "Techno Jam: Orange Marmalade" is the entire back page! What an honor. If you want to see my artwork, just Google my full name: Carolyn Lee Vehslage or clvquilts. The week that I'm onboard in Jersey City, I plan on finishing "Techno Jam: Orange Cranberry Lime" in time for another Fiber Revolution exhibition on Long Beach Island (where we keep our sailboats) at the Arts & Science Foundation. It's going to hang suspended from the ceiling along with 3 other Techno Jams. I want people to be aware that these are double sided pieces of artwork with see through parts. I'll also have a number of 8"h x 10" framed pieces and I might display the 2005 World Cruise Quilt. What I'm figuring is the week I'm on the boat, I'll be mostly away from the computer and definitely away from the television and I'll be able to get back into my artwork. I've done a lot of artwork on the boat over the years. Enjoy the weekend everyone! |
Double post--I also put this in the Featherweights forum:
This is my 2nd attempt....darn laptop ate my first attempt. Got off okay, was delayed on the first flight due to the crew couldn't find the fuel cap?!?! Scared in LAX because I didn't have a seat assignment and was afraid I'd be put on standby. That would not have worked because I was "chaperoning" one of DS's classmates. I told the gate attendant who told me to sit down....then he called me up and said, Oh, you're the one with that kid....and he proceeded to upgrade us all to FIRST CLASS!!! What a way to go! That flight was delayed duo the AV guys not being able to get the big screen in first class to work......the crew ended up making us fill in "complaint" forms so we'd get vouchers for air travel. not too bad since I didn't watch the movie anyway (was reading my new book) and the boys were entertaining themselves. The wait for my rental car was almost an hour.....Hertz gave me a $50 gift certificate for future use. But the airline lost one of my bags---sent it to Denver?!?! Then I get a call saying to come and pick it up in baggage claim after they told me they'd deliver to my hotel. I called back.....they found the paperwork and the bad will be delivered. Thank goodness--it was my toiletry bag (which in the past I would have carried on, but with the "liquid" thing now, I just checked it). I need to be able to take my contacts off! LOL Food wasn't great, wasn't horrible. Had an egg burrito for breakfast in LAX, but then was upgraded to first class so I had my choice of omelet (which was an omelet, sausage, ham and has browns) or a fruit plate (which was two kinds of melon, grapes, and strawberries with a box of Crispix cereal and milk). Both were served with a cherry Danish or Croissant. I skipped the Danish/Croissant, chose the fruit plate and didn't have anything to drink but one coffee and water. Got in, waited the hour for the rental, got to the hotel and it was too early to check in (at 3PM?). Finally got in and had no cell service (but have wi-fi at $13 per day--gosh they get you coming and going. Did I say that valet parking was $25 per day?). DS and I went to get some dinner (afterall, it is 7PM our regular time). I chose a shrimp cocktail (and wine). I sure hope my weight goes down on this trip. I'm really feeling fat. I was 145.5 this morning. I'm hoping it was because it was so early. I'll write more if I get a chance. We're probably going to hike to the top of Diamond Head tomorrow morning. |
Forgot to add. Got a message from the Band group in China. Temperature today was 106 with 98% humidity.
Thank goodness I didn't go as a chaperone on that trip! |
